Change.org is at it again. This time they’re calling out Adele, for selling 38.5 million copies of her Album “25” and for having “talent.” Seriously. Instead, Rihanna Jones, who crafted this petition addressed to Billboard Magazine, POTUS and Adele herself, states that Adele’s success has nothing to do with her talent and everything to do with…wait for it…
White Privilege.

Adele’s album has sold more than albums from Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Janet Jackson, although these three beautiful ladies all had much better albums that were talked about more. The fawning over Adele by fans and the press continue to show how minorities are repressed in the music business.
We demand that Adele publicly acknowledge that although she has a little bit of talent, it’s her white privilege that is selling her album. We also demand that Adele donates her money to African-American causes such as #Blacklivesmatter.
A little bit of talent? We are filing petitions now because of the sheer opinion of an individual by the name of “Rihanna Jones”. Why? Because, like, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Janet Jackson all had “much better albums that were talked about more”. Looks like the White Privilege police want to make sure Ms. Adele is not “Rolling in the Deep” of her Benjamins because, after all, she didn’t earn them and that voice, well, it’s lackluster in comparison to Bey-Bey’s.
Let’s talk for a moment about how “repressed” Beyoncé is in the entertainment industry, shall we? Beyoncé is valued at roughly $450 million (while her hubby Jay Z is worth another $650 million). In October, HollywoodTake.com reported that Bey gave a “secret” performance at a corporation’s party at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. Her payday? Several million dollars. Rihanna’s net worth? $160 million. Janet Jackson? Try $175 million! According to Celebrity Net Worth, Adele’s tops out at $75. Wayyyyy too much pay for a white British gal, don’t you think? I can see it now:

The petition only needs 22 more votes which means 177 individuals were stupid enough to sign it and there are individuals out in la-la land who actually believe this craziness and may not sign such petition. In these delusional minds, Adele’s abilities have nothing to do with talent or killer publicity. When black artists do this, it’s called “drive”, it’s called being an inspiration. Stick a white girl in the mix doing the same thing and it becomes “white privilege”. I mean, Adele just needs to step off and not showcase her vocal range so much, maybe stick to bubblegum pop ala Taylor Swift and Katy Perry and leave soul to Beyonce. That soul-stealer, Adele. How dare she attempt to make money off of her God-given talent! How white of her!

maria says: This is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. I am very aware of white privilege and it’s existence in society. It’s a major deviating reality in this country and in many other countries across the planet; however, as a person of color AND a musician I promise you this petition is way way off base. Firstly, rhianna, is not even on the same level as adele, janet, or Beyonce. She’s a catchy r&b singer who relies strongly on auto tune so we scratch her. Janet Jackson in her prime has the top sales… well… ever… however her career is unfortunately in its twilight. It’s typical for any musicians sales to decrease as the times change. Finally, beyonce, whom I would say is at least an equally good singer to adele does not write all of her lyrics, her music is intentionally aimed at a younger crowd, many of her songs are club songs, and contain rap which not all people enjoy. Black and white people. So adele sells more because her music is more neutral. Old aND young, indie and top 40, black, white, straight, gay. It’s a different texture of music and frankly a more popular one.
John says: My white privilege is that I get to get up every morning and go to work. I work 50 plus hours a week to feed my family. Doing my job I go to many a house to provide services to non white folks who can afford my services while living in government housing. Yes some people need more white privileges. Like getting a job.
