As I mentioned earlier, Larry Correia was unceremoniously and unprofessionally booted from a gamer event – one he had already purchased tickets for, one where he was slated to be the Guest of Honor, one to which he was going to bring his son, enjoy the day, chat with fans, and generally have a good time. The Executive Director of the Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) John Ward bent over and took it up the poop chute from a disgruntled femiprog, who was angry with Larry for a fisking he did on her boyfriend’s article four years ago, and posted a very public (badly spelled) comment maligning Larry, and then emailed him a copy without any other explanation.
Talk about your lack of professionalism!
Larry posted a public statement regarding the events here in which he describes the communication with Ward.
So then I went and checked my email. (and I am perfectly happy to share every single email ever sent between me and Origins). John Ward had emailed me, and his email was nearly identical to the public Facebook announcement (including the spelling errors). He said that he was recently informed of some of my “personal views” which made me a detriment as a guest, and that Origins is a family friendly and inclusive event.
[…]After I sent that email, I realized I’d not asked about the status of the short story reprint I was allowing them to use in the Origins anthology, so I sent a second shorter email saying that they’d probably want to pull my story out, because I’d hate for any of my icky imaginary hatemongery to get all over them.
John Ward did not even have the basic professional courtesy to respond.
I had hoped that GAMA would reply to my note, which was much more professional than the lying, contradictory derp that John Ward sent Larry Correia, but alas! The rumors I’m hearing from gamers is that since GAMA took over Origins, it’s been sliding downhill, so I doubt I will get a reply.
However, John Ward did have the time to write a note to the exhibitors, which Larry posted on his very public Facebook page. It is this note I want to address today, because it shows the lies and obfuscations in which John Ward engages to cover his pathetic, worthless ass.
Exhibitors,
I am sure by now you or your team has seen the social media storm about our author guest Larry Correira.[sic.] I felt compelled to give each of you some more insight as our major supporters.
Yeah, I’m sure they’ve seen it, since both GAMA and the Origins social media pages have been inundated so hard with negative comments, they’ve begun deleting posts in order to save face, in obvious hopes that Ward’s unprofessional conduct would be soon forgotten.
I once again remind Ward that the Internet is forever.
And I once again point to John Ward’s incompetence and lies both in the original statement, and in the one I am fisking right now. This guy is either the most amateurish, bungling assclown ever hired by any professional association, or he’s a lying sack of swine droppings. Or maybe both.
Frankly, I was unfamiliar with his work or his history until we posted our guest list yesterday. Honestly, our process to vet the author guest simply failed. Obviously that vetting process has my attention and is being revised.
The most basic of Google searches would have revealed who Larry Correia is, what his personal views are, his sales, his novels, and everything else about him. So either John Ward is a pathetic, amateur FAIL, or he’s a liar. Or maybe both.
I received emails from exhibitors and sponsors giving me insight into the controversy around this particular guest. I appreciate those of you that reached out to me. As a result, we removed him from the guest list yesterday.
I lean toward SURVEY SAYS… “FUCKING LIAR!” on this one. Exhibitors and sponsors go to these events to make money. Sure, these folks obviously love the art of gaming, but events such as this draw considerably higher profits than just regular online sales. Larry Correia is a gigantic draw, judging from the shitstorm that John Ward’s actions garnered last night and today. Fans drive and fly from all over to meet him. Those who have met him, adore the man and consider him one of the kindest, most generous people around. The vendors will see a huge bump in profits on weekends such as this, so not having Larry as a guest of honor will surely decrease those sales.
But see, John Ward apparently doesn’t want to show just how much of a needle-dick amoeba he is for bowing down to primarily one shrieking harpy and her pals, so he invented these exhibitors and sponsors who obviously hate profits so much, they emailed John Ward to express their displeasure with Larry’s presence.
I call BULLSHIT.
Politics aside, we simply don’t want this kind of controversy. I don’t want guests at Origins that polarize our fans. We don’t need that kind of drama. Although his fans and readers are crying foul and that we are not embracing diversity ourselves, that was the major basis for my decision.
LIES. LIES. LIES.
In John’s own words, “Unfortunately, when he was recommended I was unaware of some personal views that are specifically unaligned with the philosophy of our show and the organization..”
Translation: Larry engages in WrongThink, and we didn’t want his icky libertarian cooties on our stuff.
Additionally, the only people who polarized the fans were this pernicious, omega-male-screwing twat who started her perpetually offended screech fest about Larry and John Ward himself. John Ward created the drama by posting a very public smear of Larry Correia. John Ward admitted in his original statement that Larry was booted because of his political views. And now, John Ward is publicly lying about what the “major basis” for his decision was.
If he was concerned, he could have called or emailed Larry. Larry is a pretty responsive fellow, and I’m sure he would have been happy to speak to John Ward about his “concerns.”
But John Ward did no such thing. Instead he sent Larry a perfunctory email copied and pasted from his public smear (complete with spelling errors), and refused to engage in follow-up discussion.
Either John Ward is an inept monkey, or he is a liar. Or maybe both.
When this similar situation arose with the Hugo awards, his fan base assaulted social media. That tactic is repeating itself with us. There were numerous posts on our Facebook site which led me to put it on “hold” last night.
Gee, John Ward! I thought you didn’t know anything about the history of Larry Correia! Did you not say that in the opening of your screed? Now you claim his fan base “assaulted” social media (referring to the events of the Sad Puppies, which happened years ago), as if you are the victim here – as if you are the one out two plane tickets to the event for which you have yet to reimburse the author – as if you are the one who stands to suffer reputational damage when an Executive Director of an organization that invited you as Guest of Honor to an event unceremoniously removed you, publicly smeared your good name as justification, and removed your name from a promo for an anthology to which you contributed!
Fuck you, John. You’re not the gorram victim here! You’re just a lying, unprofessional sack of shit that cannot even stand up and admit he fucked up, and is too chickenshit to refund Larry Correia’s money for tickets for him and his son!
I prefer to use facts rather than social media as a gauge for the show.
FACT is John Ward is a liar.
FACT is John Ward is a coward.
FACT is John Ward is an invertebrate who bent over for the social justice landwhale crowd and is now trying to cover his ass.
Those are the facts, as shown amply here and in my last post.
I personally received about 20 emails yesterday complaining to me and ridiculing my decision. Of those emails, not one was a registered attendee. In addition, I got a half dozen other emails applauding our decision to make the hard call.
Let’s not mention the social media shitstorm that caused you to remove your post. Let’s not mention the continued blog posts, articles, and discussions about your cowardly actions. Oh, and those of you who aren’t registered, who were thinking about attending and now will not, who had Origins Game Fair on their bucket list and now will cross that off, who will not spend their money at Origins and shun their exhibitors and vendors, and who didn’t email John Ward…
…FUCK YOU. He only cares about who is registered right now. He said so himself above. And that was only one person!
As far as our actual numbers for this year, we are trending above last year’s preregistration by over 15%.
How many requests for refunds has Origins received so far?
Frankly, I don’t expect accurate numbers from John Ward, given the lies he spouted above. He is not to be trusted, and I hope that the exhibitors and sponsors see this.
John Ward is a lying, spineless paramecium.
As to whether he is supremely incompetent and impotent, or just a liar…
…I embrace the power of “and.”
Honestly, our process to vet the author guest simply failed.
Translated: We neglected to adequately include SJZ whinery and douchebaggery in our test of who we should invite. We thought “diversity” would be enough.
Politics aside, we simply don’t want this kind of controversy.
Then tell these people to leave their idiot drama at home and come to game and enjoy the con.
Translation: ZOMG! We don’t want any negative press! We don’t have enough of a spine to stand up to these losers!
I prefer to use facts rather than social media as a gauge for the show.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA… *breathe* … HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
and honestly you should never listen to SJW’s that are Virtue signaling and I use to have a lot of respect for your con…. Now I tell people not to go because your “inclusiveness” is now the new exclusiveness how far your convention has fallen…
He lied, either outright or by omission, when he said this. “I personally received about 20 emails yesterday complaining to me and ridiculing my decision. Of those emails, not one was a registered attendee. In addition, I got a half dozen other emails applauding our decision to make the hard call.” There’s no proof of the first part of that statement, and he doesn’t mention the half dozen as attending or not. This guy makes John Lovitz’s liar on SNL look like a genius.
By the way, I’ve just added you to my daily read list in my links.
I don’t know when he made this statement, but I e-mailed the convention coordinator yesterday morning to express my disappointment at the removal of Larry Correia as a guest of honor. Admittedly, I did not e-mail Mr. Ward directly, as I felt this was a convention issue, but I am a registered attendee who e-mailed GAMA from the address under which I am registered.
Right? “I personally received about 20 emails yesterday complaining to me and ridiculing my decision.” As if.
No, this guy received enough email to bring his mail server to its knees. The other managers of Origins have been begging Larry to call off the Hell Hounds that are melting their inboxes.
Typical Lefty middle-management douche.
and you lie as well going to the con…so heelllooo kettle this is the pot.
Actually, if you skim back on their FB page, apparently there were (are?) “issues” with their registration software, so folks weren’t ABLE to register, so the lack of registration doesn’t mean much. As someone else on FB said, “hey, now they don’t need to fix their registration software!
Maria, mija. Suelte todo,lo que tenga adentro, no deje nada por decir..Liberese!
And this si why I stopped dating Latinas, when they go mad, bodies get buried.
🙂
Slander lawsuit?
certainly is he should sue them
Polarizing – A word used to explain why someone who didn’t do anything is at fault for the hysterics and threats made by someone else.
Polarizing – And alternative to the phrase, “Look what you made me do!”
GAMA, huh?
I think I’ll be contacting the publishers of the games I still play asking for their statement on this issue.
Just tweeted this:
@originsgames Time to #BoycottOrigens until they #FireJohnWard
Get the message, @Gen_Con, @TheGAMAOnline , @VanRyderGames ?
By the way, the link you included talking about how vendors make big bucks on event weekends, pointing to the FB group “Monster Hunter International – Hunters Unite!”, won’t be visible to those not already in that group, as it’s set as a Closed group (too many idiots who refuse to read the “about” and think the group is about the “Monster Hunter” video game series, often getting all butthurt when it’s pointed out to them by regular members).
Well, I won’t be going to Origins, though someone who does needs to ask them publically about what they think about GAMA policy and the fact they are just one SJW harridan screech from being cut themselves.
And I bought one of Larry’s books. Let’s see what I was missing.
But this means the Sci Fi greats like Robert Heinlein, Larry Niven, S.M. Stirling and many others would also not pass ideological muster.
Someone needs to ask those authors what they think of THAT as well
Sadly, Heinlein would be hard-pressed to comment, as he has passed on. But you can imagine he would think… less than highly of this.
I think you will enjoy Larry’s books. I love the Monster Hunter and the Grimnoir books, in particular.
Well that was five minutes I’ll never get back.
15% = 3/20
OMG Such an asstronomical figure! (pun intended.)
Oh, and Larry has the FULL response to Origins up on his blog, now.

” I embrace the power of “and.” ”
*snork* I was about to suggest that, but you did catch up at the end… 😉
I am not interested in Cons where virtue-signaling is the raison d’etre. Worldcon, and some of the invitation-revokers call to mind Dave Burge’s (Iowahawk) summary of modern Leftism: “1. Identify a respected institution.
2. kill it.
3. gut it.
4. wear its carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect.
#lefties”
“…dared to acknowledge women and PoC…”
“…not safe to be brown there…”
NEVER MIND that some of the core characters of the MHI series are several women and a black man that the main character deeply respects, literally trusts with his life, and even marries in one case. Readers familiar with Julie, Holly, and Trip know what’s up. Protagonist Owen HIMSELF is half-“brown” (I forget his father’s exact ethnicity, but it sure as hell isn’t white) and said black man Trip is readily acknowledged by Owen as being a more pure-hearted and truly GOOD man than Owen could ever hope to be.
But yeah, Larry will totally attempt to tear down anyone who dares to acknowledge women and PoC. He must be his own worst enemy.
Worst. Racist. Ever.
(Sarah Hoyt also gets that a lot.)
Incredibly enough, an accused rapist who was stripped of his moderator status and banned from rpg.net is running two games at Origins.
Hi,
I do not know of anyone else getting pulled from the schedule except myself.
My name is Louis Desy and in 2016 I was scheduled to give a total of ten hours of lectures as part of the Origins War College lecture series. Eight of those hours were on the economy between the World Wars. Two of the hours were a one hour on a lecture titled, “The Culture Wars” and another hour on “GamerGate”.
I thought those topics would be of interest since the lecture series is about the instruments of national power, history, warfare, economics and politics. “The Culture Wars” and “GamerGate” I thought the topics would be of interest since it has been discussed that “Culture drives politics” which then effects the use and deployment of the instruments of national power, and those seemed to be recent topics on culture that was and is driving politics.
Because I had dared to put those topics on the schedule without realizing that the ones that are really in charge had forbid any such discussion in any forum of said topics, I was banned from the lectures. The proposed lectures had been seen by a number of people before they ended up on the schedule and no one thought it was out of place or a problem to give such lectures at Origins.
Once the schedule was posted Origins got comments in its social media, and then took me off of the entire schedule for all lectures, forever.
I was never sent anything in writing or email, and John Ward himself would only deliver the order through another person that I was working with and in the area of Columbus, OH; and even delayed relaying any message for several days as I wondered what was going on.
It all seemed to be a very sneaky and underhanded way of dealing with the situation.
As if that was not bad enough, Origins left my eight hours of economic lectures still on the event worksheet through the entire Origins 2016 event, so anyone looking at that would have thought that I simply did not show and the failure to give any lectures was on me.
I think that part that myself and others do not understand, is that they was no proof that the people calling for the lectures to be shutdown even attended Origins! Also, in my case, some of those people were ‘running around’ checking to see if I was scheduled for any other cons, like Gencon, with the objective of doing the same thing there to me.
Take care,
Louis J. Desy Jr.
