Ocasio-Cortez Butt-Hurt Because of “I Can’t Afford D.C. Rent” Sob Story

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is our favorite little socialist icon and she has struck us again with pure comedic gold. This time, Occasional-Cortex evokes the plight of being the youngest woman elected to Congress: she cannot afford rent in D.C.

Cue in the violins: “I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment? Those little things are very real. We’re kind of just dealing with the logistics of it day by day, but I’ve really been just kind of squirreling away and then hoping that gets me to January.”

Of course, the media is eating this up. “She’s part of the working class,” they say. According to this, the median rent in D.C. these days is $2,700. Does anyone see the seeds of a GoFundMe account being planted? Anyone?

Thanks to Capitalism, not even a Socialist politician can afford D.C. rent. Which begs the question: How in the world did Crazy Eyes manage for the past year?

Seems Alexandria’s economics degree has failed her yet once again. It’s “puzzling,” isn’t it? The plight is real.

Perhaps the lessons of financial responsibility escaped her? If median rent is $2,700 in D.C., she could have had at least one month’s coverage from the cash spent on an outfit for Interview Magazine:

In a photo shoot for Interview magazine, Ocasio-Cortez was pictured wearing a $3,500 outfit as she posed with construction workers. She was decked out in a Gabriela Hearst blazer ($1,990), Gabriela Hearst pants ($890), and some Monolo Blahnik shoes ($625).-Town Hall

Because all working-class Latinas wear Blahniks and spend $4,000 on Uber rides in California whilst rubbing elbows with rich Democrats. Granted, these may have been campaign funds, but still. By my calculations, that grand total comes to $7,500. $600 short of what three months of rent would likely cost Ocasio-Cortez in D.C.

Seems her critics struck a nerve:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez loves her country, so much that she is willing to make the sacrifice by going to D.C. for all the “little people.” She pops tags at the thrift stores just like you and me. But she neglected to plan for the astronomical rent. Not her problem. This is somehow our problem, and we’re supposed to feel like terrible people because we are laughing at her bewilderment of how she is going to pay to live in in The District?! Spoken like a true millennial of the Obama era. I got my college degree, I organized, I have a dream, now you get to pay for it.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was never poor or “middle-class” as she likes to claim. If the Westchester Princess of The Bodega is so looking for a cool flat in D.C., she could probably find one she can afford in the Southeast. They have those strict gun laws that she likes so much in that neck of the woods. Or perhaps she could live in Pelosi’s basement? Or she could donate her Blahniks and take a hint from Elizabeth Warren and claim a $50,000 tax deduction? Or, she could just grab a cot and camp out in her office like some of her predecessors? She could even put a tip jar outside of her office, too (though that may be misconstrued). I somehow think: Mizz O-C thinks she’s better than that.

As a 29-year-old, I lived in the D.C. metro area, too. I made $50,000 that year and hustled at two jobs. I paid my rent, student loans, car loan, utilities and had a bit left over. Military families in the area do it all the time. Ocasio-Cortez will make $174,000 per annum. Assuming her partner does not work at all, she will be bringing home roughly $14,500/monthly before taxes. If someone cannot afford $2,700 a month for rent on a salary such as this, they have some serious financial issues and have no business making economic decisions on behalf of the people. Our advice to Ocasio-Cortez: squirrel away, Alexandria, and just pay for it.

Too bad she can’t get her money back on all those expensive clothes she wore while campaigning….

    • GWB says:

Admittedly, a lot of those might have been loaned, just like a lot of celebrity clothes at the big galas and premiers. (And Ocassional-Cortex is nothing if not a celebrity.)

  • GWB says:

You missed an important point, Lisa.
the median rent in D.C. these days is $2,700
SHOULD have been followed up by:
The average rent for an apartment in Bronx is $2,167
    and
The average rent for an apartment in Queens is $2,194

So, she can’t cough up an extra $600 a month? Or is she still living in that hoity-toity neighborhood with her parents?

  • Richard Feder, Ft says:

    It’s Ocasio-Cortez, not Osacio-Cortez. Gawd.

  • Hopaii says:

Wow, she’s too good to commute like every other working class prole? Free everything for everyone, but me first! And people wonder why communist states are so corrupted.

  • Bob Perkins says:

She doesn’t have a care in the world about anything! The Obama “Deep State” will be taking care of her every wish and need!

  • Bevo Francis says:

This is another example where the leftist moans that they are a “victim”. Give me a break.

Oh, poor me. I managed to collect big bucks and run a campaign to get a government job. I failed to save, or plan ahead and made other dumb decisions.

So, because I was (am) a dumbass you people with money must bail me out and carry my water cause I am so bad off.

  • CaptDMO says:

I’m sure a quick read through of Ms. Rand’s “We The Living” will give her ALL the insight
she needs to survive on the mean streets.
Oh, she may not be rationed the GOOD oil for cooking, margarine, or cheese food product, but
I’m almost positive the ladies of the “Woman’s Issues Caucus” will giver her their outdated clothes and jewelry
to wear in office, and on the floor, instead of dumping them in a bin and claiming the tax write off.
With an Obama phone for emergencies, and pens from the bank, what else does she need?

  • Clazy says:

OC isn’t worried about paying rent through December, she’s excited to think that she’ll be making so much money next year that 2,700 will be easy.

  • RK says:

She could add some diversity to the Anacostia section of Wash. D.C.

  • RebeccaH says:

Alexandria Horseteeth Crazyeyes comes from a well-to-do family. She may have done odd jobs in the past, but she is anything but “working class”. I’m sure Mommy and Daddy would pony up for rent if she asked them. She’s just trying to convince people she’s just like them, because she’s embarrassed that people found out about her real background.

  • Idawizard says:

…and she can’t get a cash loan pending her $174k annual salary? What has she done to credit rating to be so un-credit worthy…

  • George V says:

Ya know, they have these storefront operations, I think they’re called “payday loans”? You come up a bit short on rent or something and they’ll give you an advance on your next paycheck. Her next paycheck is a few months away, but it’s pretty big, and she’s got zero chance of being fired, so I’ll bet one of these places would give her a loan.

  • RTW says:

She could live in my basement in the suburbs for three months. One of the benefits would be that she would get to listen to the Chris Plante Show and/or Stuart Varney at full volume every weekday morning from 9 to 12 am.

  • Anon says:

Total BS. You can easily go on Craigslist and get a temporary sublet here in D.C. for less than $2000. Being famous and nice looking won’t hurt.

  • […] Ocasio-Cortez Butt-Hurt Because of “I Can’t Afford D.C. Rent”.. Laughable and deserving of scorn. No question that it’s expensive in DC, but it’s […]

  • Flying Dutchman says:

Oh Lordy. As long as you represent someone else’s district, Ms. Occasional-Cortex, don’t ever change. You’re comedy gold.

PS: “So the bartender says, “Why the long face?”

  • Bandit says:

I guess she didn’t think about this before she got elected??

  • John says:

She could live in a lower cost place.

  • J L Fuller says:

This is an example where the poor person just doers not have the ability to seek out the necessary options. Yet this person claims she will be representing several hundred thousand Americans in her Congressional District. The registered voters in her District should consider a recall campaign since this person does not have a clue as to how even basic economic issues need to be handled.

  • J L Fuller says:

Maybe she can cut off the sex and get her “partner” to get a damn job?

  • Donna says:

Please don’t do a Go Fund Me Account. Now that you’ve won the election, I believe that would be considered bribery. Do you need a dictionary so you can see what that word means? Or go ahead and do so, accept the funds, you’ll get your hand slapped. I must say that I’m not too impressed with your forethought and planning though. Please try very hard not to make any decisions in the House that might affect me. So far I’m not impressed by you at all. Of course, according to you, you just pay for it, isn’t that what you want to do with healthcare and college. So practice what you preach.

  • John says:

Sorry butThis is a person that should have never run for office! She is unqualified in the first place and does not have the assets to survive in the political world of DC. Should have done some homework before running.
