Happy Birthday America! #4thofJuly

This Independence Day, America is recovering from a few weeks of Democrat revelry in the shredding of the Constitution. Our freedoms are being trampled in the name of a benign sounding cause called social justice, and many are ambivalent about celebrating the 4th of July.

But instead of dwelling on these events, let’s renew our commitment to liberty, be happy warriors, and remind ourselves that we live in the greatest nation in the world. She is exceptional. She is no greater friend, and no worse enemy. This is America, and no one person, nor any several years of misdirection will ever destroy our inborn inclination for freedom. This is the land of the free, the home of the brave.

This is the time to reread our founding documents, and renew our faith in our founding fathers. Contemplate the courage it took for them to decide to break from the homeland. Surely we also possess the fortitude of belief to carry the torch for liberty. We have the benefit of perspective; we know the fight for liberty was Divine guidance for our young nation. We are thankful for their foresight, their bravery in the face of power, and their belief in the value of individual freedom.

They knew what was in store for them. John Adams said,

I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure it will cost us to maintain this declaration, and support and defend these states. Yet through all the gloom I see the rays of ravishing light and glory. I can see that the end is worth all the means. This is our day of deliverance.

We should put forth no less effort to deliver a future to this country.

This nation, loosely joined at first, became a strong unbreakable union. We rose to world prominence, and though we ride the political tide internally and externally, we can’t be sunk so long as we refuse to abandon what is in our DNA – and what we believe is true for all people – the God given right to self-determination.

These words were never so true as they are today:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

That these sentiments can survive 239 years is testament to the supernatural at work. Because of this, we can be reassured in this instance, despite the grim state of affairs, that our belief in freedom is everlasting. The beauty is that our founding principles promote clashes of differences, and while these bring about strife to be sure, they also bring innovation and healthy competition. For this good, we must appreciate the other, for it brings opportunity. America is the land of opportunity.

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

So celebrate this Fourth of July like you have celebrated no other. And answer loudly, and proudly yes, Yes, YES!
