Win For California Parents From SCOTUS

For decades, the Golden State has been the main place from which screwy rules have emanated. That big screech you just heard was from the Supreme Court of the United States. In a YUGE win for the parents of California, SCOTUS blocked a law prohibiting schools from telling parents their kids are transgender. You may “HUZZAH!” now.

Ten to one that California Governor Gavin Newsom will dance on both sides of this issue. Any takers?

Here is the write-up from AP News:

The Supreme Court cleared the way Monday for California schools to tell parents if their children identify as transgender without getting the student’s approval, granting an emergency appeal from a conservative legal group.

The order blocks for now a state law that bans automatic parental notification requirements if students change their pronouns or gender expression at school.

The split decision comes after religious parents and educators challenged California school policies aimed at preventing schools from outing students to their families. Two sets of Catholic parents represented by the Thomas More Society say it caused schools to mislead them and secretly facilitate the children’s social transition despite their objections.

California, on the other hand, argued that students have the right to privacy about their gender expression, especially if they fear rejection from their families. The state said that school policies and state law are aimed at striking a balance with parents’ rights.

I may be Neolithic on this but until your child is living on his own and totes his own health care coverage, he doesn’t have a “right to privacy” on his “gender expression”. What a lot of bunkum. Heck, we’ll take the win where we can get it. You have got to admit that it’s hard to take as a win blocking a state law that “bans automatic parental notification requirements if students change their pronouns or gender expression at school”. The teachers should be far more afraid of the parents.

We really knew this couldn’t last too long. Young people like Chloe Cole, who was from California, began detransitioning and realized the truth.

Her case was no applicable to her school per se but it is instructive. The SCOTUS win today is not the final word, but it is an indication on which way the Court is likely to rule.

This law was intended to protect children from abuse at home, but not abuse at school:

This piece from the EconoTimes makes the issue very clear:

The dispute centers on California provisions that limit when schools can disclose a student’s gender identity to parents without the child’s consent. State officials argue the laws are intended to safeguard transgender students who may fear hostility, rejection, or abuse at home. California has maintained that schools are not categorically prohibited from sharing information and may disclose details if a student’s health or safety is at risk.

The lawsuit was filed in 2023 by Christian teachers and Catholic parents in the Escondido Union School District. They claimed the policies forced schools to support “secret gender transitions” and concealed critical information from parents. In December, U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez ruled in their favor, blocking enforcement of the measures. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals later paused that ruling, citing legal errors.

The phrase “secret gender transitions” is chilling. Here is more from the article:

Justice Elena Kagan, joined by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, dissented, criticizing the court’s use of its emergency docket. The case is part of broader nationwide legal battles over transgender rights, parental rights, and school policies, as the Supreme Court continues to weigh disputes involving gender-affirming care, transgender athletes, and related constitutional issues.

The ruling effects every school taking Federal dollars, which would be almost all of them.

Small bites of the apple are all we will get for now:

In the meantime, think of the kids that are being confused or turned against their parents by social media, teachers and culture.

There will be much more on this in the coming days and Gavin Newsom hasn’t weighed in on it …yet.

Small huzzahs until the final ruling.

Oh noes. The troons won’t be allowed to secretly recruit kids any more.

I’m fine with this. When a school keeps secrets like that, the people involved need to be brutally hammered back into normalcy.
