It’s a day ending in “Y,” so Amanda Marcotte has said something stupid. Again. We’ve been through this before with her here on Victory Girls.
This time, she’s defending these bizarre Obamacare ads out of Colorado. Specifically, this one.
Because conservatives dared to point out that 1) this ad is stupid beyond belief, 2) demeaning to women, and 3) something that taxpayers should not be subsidizing, Amanda just KNOWS that because the ad is talking about SEX, and since conservatives are such prudes, we naturally hate the ad and women and sexual freedoms and birth control and feminism. I wonder if I missed anything that we’re supposed to be hating.
I can prove with one simple test that Amanda Marcotte is an idiot and missed the point of the conservative critique completely.
Switch the genders.
Let us imagine that it’s the GUY saying, “OMG, she’s hot! I hope she’s as easy to get as birth control! Her health insurance covers the pill, which means all I have to do is worry about is getting her between the covers. She’s got insurance!”
I wonder if Amanda would be thinking the ad was so “cute” if the guy was calling the girl “easy” and looking for consequence-free sex.
Hmmm. My Spidey-sense says… no.
But… but… conservatives hate sex!!!
No, we don’t. We just don’t want to hear about your sex life or pay for it. And I know that if men were running around, bragging about finding “easy” girls because they wouldn’t have to pay for it or worry about a pregnancy, Amanda Marcotte would be standing on her laptop, screaming about men who exploit women for their own personal sexual satisfaction.
But because the girl said it, that’s female empowerment, and according to Amanda, that’s just great.
Because when all you think with is your vagina, everything is about sex. Right, Amanda?
Hosurance is demeaning? By all means, let’s not tell Amanda…because then she couldn’t pretend her milkshake brings the boys to her yard.
The “War on Women” meme. Yawn.
There is an old saying: if all you got is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. Since Marcotte believes women are nothing more than walking and talking vaginas (vaginae?) ….well….
But…but…Deanna, when will you learn from your feminsta overlords that your sexuality, specifically your vagina, trumps all over the sum of you as a woman? I mean, Amanda is a smart, elitist, educated woman on the cutting edge of political commentary, and SHE knows better than you do!
But, hey, what do I know? I am just a straight, white, conservative male 😉
We’ve learned over the past few years that racists are the ones accusing everyone else of racism. Extrapolate on that, Amanda.
Or as Queen Gertrude would say, “The lady doth protest too much, methinks”.
Excellent, Deanna. I am beyond disgusted with the liberal progressive “agenda” that completely demeans women. Let’s check back with Amanda in about, oh say…20 years and see what the pay-off has been for her.
Where the heck were all these women back when I was in school? Born at the wrong time, I guess. *Le Sigh*
On a serious note, though, these ads just have me shaking my head. Yes, they absolutely reduce their target audience to a caricature. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the caricature here is just … well, if anyone else had done it the feministas would be coming out of the woodwork.
Even scarier, though, is that there is a not insignificant number of women who will somehow be positively affected by this ad.
I think “hosurance” is the wrong word, though. In honor of Rush, it should “slutsurance”. It’s more alliterative, too.
