Van Jones – Good Grandpa VS. Bad Grandpa

Van Jones, short-lived Barack Obama “Green Jobs Advisor” and long, long time CNN contributor has advice for Joe Biden in the State of the Union Address on March 7, 2024. To address the fact that he is 81 years old and decrepit, Joe Biden should say that he is a “good grandpa” versus his opponent Donald Trump, who is presumably a “bad grandpa”. As political advice goes, this is quite novel. Stupid, but novel.

For three years, the Democrat Media Industrial Complex has told us that Joe Biden was young and spry and running rings around everyone in the White House Campus Complex. The man is such a dynamo, that even Saturday Night Live played off it in their cold open last week:

While SNL played it for laughs, they all have been asking us to ignore our common sense. Until Van Jones came up with the “Grandpa Strategy”. From The Hill:

CNN analyst Van Jones suggested Monday that President Biden push back against concerns around his age in this week’s State of The Union address by emphasizing that a “good grandpa” is better than “a bad grandpa.”

“Unfortunately he cannot get any younger, so there’s not much they can do about it. He has a chance this week though, to remind people sometimes having a good grandpa on the case is better than having a bad grandpa on the case,” Jones said of the president during an interview with CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer. “And that’s really … he’s got to lean into it.”

Jones was seemingly referencing former President Trump, the GOP primary front-runner and likely Republican nominee for the White House, whom he has criticized on numerous occasions.

I am still trying to wrap my head around “sometimes having a good grandpa on the case is better than having a bad grandpa on the case”. Who says something like that? I understand Biden leaning into being old. Yes, he shuffles and looks half-dead. But, in geopolitics his ideas, and I mean the Obama leftovers that tell Joe what to do, his ideas are leftovers too. It was ten years ago that Russia invaded Crimean Peninsula of Ukraine. Under Obama. Get it? It was the late 70’s that Jimmy Carter made us energy dependent. Old ideas that didn’t work the first time. This is the “Good Grandpa” that Van Jones wants Creepy Joe to lean into.

More from The Hill:

The president’s age, mental acuity and ability to carry out a second term has been a large subject of discussion for much of his presidency. Concerns were fueled further by the release of a special counsel report last month that described him as “an elderly man with a poor memory.”

“He’s got to own it. He is an older guy, but he’s an older guy who’s a good guy,” Jones said Monday. “He’s a good man, he’s done well for the country and he’s got a track record to run on.”

“But you know, anybody who says it’s not a real issue or it’s just something that the media is making up, that’s not true,” he added.

Biden last week pushed back on the concerns over his age, arguing what really matters is “how old your ideas are.”

Dayum, his ideas are old. Don’t forget his nasty personality:

All true. Too true.

If you are going to talk about a “Good Grandpa”, this is more like it:

Trump’s granddaughter clearly adores his Grandpa.

BUT, I don’t want a Grandpa President. I want a strong chess player and leader. He can Grandpa on his own time. Pfffft, Van Jones.
