Well, that was a rousing way to start off the “resistance.” The Democrats decided to have a tantrum, and Trump basically steamrolled right over them.
We knew that the Democrats were going to be all pissy at this speech. The Democrat women had decided that they were all going to wear pink in protest.

So… Democrats actually DO know what a woman is!
But when President Donald Trump took the podium, the Democrats sat on their hands. Which was more or less fine, but then the fireworks began. Representative Al Green (D-TX) got his moment in the sun, starring as “Old Man Yelling At President.”

Weirdly, in a scene that could have fit better in Canadian or British Parliament, the yelling got to the point that Speaker Mike Johnson had Green removed from the chamber.
President Trump let the whole scene play out while Speaker Johnson warned everyone, and then kept going. But don’t feel bad for Al Green – he promptly found a camera to talk to.

President Trump seemed more amused than annoyed by the Democrats – mostly because he has absolutely no compunctions about going off script and talking directly to the Democrats in the chamber. He then metaphorically shrugged at them, acknowledging that there is nothing he can do to improve their moods if they’re just determined to be in a snit.
“This is my fifth such speech to Congress,” Mr. Trump said. “And once again I look at the Democrats in front of me and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud. Nothing I can do.”
He continued: “I could find a cure to the most devastating disease, a disease that would wipe out entire nations, or announce the answers to the greatest economy in history, or the stoppage of crime to the lowest levels ever recorded. And these people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand, and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements. They won’t do it, no matter what. Five times I’ve been up here. It’s very sad, and it just shouldn’t be this way.”

The order had clearly gone out to the Democrats – no cheering, no clapping, no NOTHING. Hilariously, when President Trump reaffirmed that he wants to eliminate taxes on tips, the Democrats sat silent – even though Kamala Harris had run on that same policy, and they all cheered for it then!
Once again, the Democrats’ planned resistance fell flat, and looked childish and petty. President Trump called them out to their faces, and they got caught in their own resistance web. They couldn’t even stand when the mothers of Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray were recognized and honored. They couldn’t even stand and applaud a young brain cancer survivor, DJ, who was recognized and made a Secret Service agent during the speech.

The Democrats are really not selling their vision of the country right now. Good luck to freshman senator Elissa Slotkin, who has the fun task of trying to explain how the Democrats aren’t actually miserable and petty assholes. After their behavior tonight, I’m not sure what Slotkin can say to counteract the images that are being broadcast out to the world.

Scott says: Slotkin’s address was good, in that a lot of what she said was true, the problem is that she attributed things to the wrong parties. she gave credit for good things happening to the dems, instead of Republicans where it belonged, and blamed republicans for things that democrats do. It realy mad her come off looking like either a liar or delusional, and not much more. sad, if this is the best the CIA has to offer.
Scott says: Oh, and she also trashed the President for the way things went down with Zelinsky the other day, but totally ignored the fact that the President even mentioned in his speech that Z sent a letter basically apologizing, and saying he was ready to sign the deal.. Interesting that she’d attack his approach when it has apparently already worked..
