President Trump pointed the finger directly at Joe Biden and J.B. Pritzker for the senseless murder of Sheridan Gorman during a speech to the National Republican Congressional Committee, after Democrats and leftists have spent time trying to blame Trump or Gorman herself.
As Nina covered here, Chicago’s political machine has tried to find ways to excuse the murder of Sheridan Gorman, by either claiming that she and her group must have “startled” the poor illegal alien with a gun so it was her fault, or have blamed Trump directly. Both Governor Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson blamed the Trump administration for Gorman’s murder, but her own family called out both men for their remarks.
Pritzker on Tuesday shifted blame to the Trump administration during an event, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“This has been a terrible tragedy, and I know that the Gorman family has suffered mightily… There have been real failures. Those failures, of course, extend beyond the borders of Illinois. That’s their national failures, a failure to have comprehensive immigration reform, a failure of the president to follow his own edict to go after the worst of the worst,” Pritzker said.
Johnson on Tuesday also addressed Gorman’s death, saying that her life was taken due to “senseless violence,” but called out President Trump as well.
“There’s no words that one could express that could properly console a family that lost their baby. And my condolences to the Gorman family,” Johnson said. “You know what the bigger threat to our public safety, it’s illegal weapons that are being trafficked from bordering states that voted for Donald Trump. This president refuses to be held accountable. And he points the finger at everything and everyone else versus doing some real self-reflection on what his responsibility is.”
The Gorman family on Wednesday released a statement criticizing both Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, saying that her death “demands accountability.”
“What happened to Sheridan cannot be reduced to a ‘senseless tragedy,’ nor can it be explained in general terms about public safety. Sheridan was our daughter. She was 18 years old. She was doing something entirely normal—walking near her campus with friends. She should be here,” the Gorman family said regarding recent comments by Johnson.
“Calling this ‘senseless’ is not enough. There must be a clear and honest accounting of what went wrong,” the family added. “We will not allow Sheridan’s life to be reduced to a talking point or a generalization. We expect leadership that is willing to confront hard truths and ensure that what happened to her does not happen again.”
Gorman’s family also responded to Gov. Pritzker’s recent comments on the freshman college student’s death, writing that “calling this a tragedy is not enough.”
“Sheridan’s death cannot be reduced to a general “tragedy,” nor can it be explained away by broad references to failures somewhere else. Sheridan was a daughter, a sister, and a young woman whose life was taken in a way that should never have been possible,” the family said. “We are not interested in political arguments or in watching responsibility shift from one place to another. If there were failures—as the Governor himself has acknowledged—then every one of them must be identified, examined, and addressed directly. The location of those failures matters less than the willingness to confront them honestly.”
Brandon Johnson then proved that he doesn’t have a shred of decency in him, as he named a snowplow “Abolish ICE” and doubled down on his comments.
Mayor Brandon Johnson is asked if he considered rescheduling this anti-ICE stunt considering an illegal had brutally killed Sheridan Gorman in Chicago just last week.
He said no, her murder “is not going to deter us from our work, in fact, it’s going to challenge us all to… https://t.co/MOYkdi0WpE pic.twitter.com/mDxfpwSr6i

To add insult on top of everything else, the student newspaper at Loyola University – where Sheridan Gorman was a student – issued an APOLOGY for calling the alleged killer an illegal immigrant. Their fellow student was murdered, but God forbid they offend anyone by telling the truth!
The Loyola Phoenix originally reported — accurately — on accused killer Jose Medina-Medina‘s status as an illegal alien after he was charged on Monday with the execution of 18-year-old Gorman.
“Immigrant man charged in murder of Sheridan Gorman, DHS involved,” the student paper’s headline originally read, referring to Venezuelan national Medina-Medina, 25, as an “illegal immigrant.”
But the Phoenix later edited its story to describe Medina-Medina as a “Rogers Park Resident,” in reference to the Chicago neighborhood where Loyola’s main campus is located — and where Gorman was walking with friends when she was shot dead early Thursday.
“That headline didn’t reflect the most important elements in the story, and it was taken down minutes later to prevent any further harm to affected community members,” the newspaper said in a lengthy editor’s note on the article.
“Additionally, in the body of the original post, we described the man who was charged as an ‘illegal immigrant,’ using language provided by the Department of Homeland Security. That language does not align with Associated Press style, nor does it align with the values of this newspaper,” the editor’s note continued.
“No human’s existence is illegal, and we quickly changed our wording to reflect that,” the student newspaper wrote, despite noting in its article that Medina-Medina “was living in the United States illegally,” according to the DHS.
Well, President Trump has no concerns about hurting the feelings of the alleged killer, or putting the blame where it belongs. On Tuesday, the president directly blamed Joe Biden’s immigration enforcement failures for the death of Sheridan Gorman during the swearing in of new DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin.
Last night, the president reiterated the blame and laid it at the feet of Biden and Pritzker.

“Less than one week ago, a precious 18-year-old college student named Sheridan Gorman was shot and killed while walking in a park, innocently,” Trump said at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) annual fundraising dinner in Washington, DC.
“The illegal alien monster charged with Sheridan’s brutal murder had come illegally from Venezuela and had been released into our country by Sleepy Joe Biden … pathetic, worst president,“ the president fumed.
Trump said Gorman’s alleged murderer, Jose Medina-Medina, “was then arrested again and released again by the Democrat Governor JB Pritzker, one of the worst governors in the history of our country, in the sanctuary city of Chicago.”
Medina-Medina crossed the border illegally during Biden’s presidency in May 2023 and was released into the country.
He was then arrested for shoplifting from a Macy’s in Chicago, but was let go under the city’s sanctuary policies.
Medina-Medina allegedly pulled a gun on Gorman and her friends last Thursday near Chicago’s lakefront and shot the teenager in the head.
Security cameras captured the entire attack and Medina-Medina was quickly arrested and charged with killing the Westchester, NY native, who was a student at Chicago’s Loyola University.
“Democrat politicians don’t care about the American blood they spill in their very demented pursuit of these open borders,” the president argued.
The president also claimed it would be “easy” for federal law enforcement to address crime in Chicago if Pritzker – whom he referred to as a “slob” – would invite them in.
“We could go to Chicago if that slob would allow us – if he’d just say, ‘Please come, Mr. President. People are being killed here all the time. Please come.’ I would come and you would have no crime practically,” Trump said. “Chicago would be easy for us, but they don’t want to say that because they actually, I think, like it.
“I don’t know, they’re sick people.”
Sheridan Gorman deserved to not be shot and killed for doing nothing but hanging out with her friends. Her alleged killer should have never been allowed into the country, and once he was arrested for a minor crime, he should have been held by ICE and deported. President Trump is correct to point out that Joe Biden bears the blame for his open borders immigration policy, and Pritzker and Johnson share the blame for their policies that let him go free after committing a crime. Former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich theorized that Sheridan Gorman’s murder was a gang initiation, and he could be right. But does that really matter? An innocent woman is dead, her family is grieving, and they want justice. Instead, they are getting justification from Democrats who don’t like looking at the ugly realities of what their policies have wrought. Joe Biden is washed up and done, and will never be held fully accountable for the damage he caused to this country by letting in God knows how many illegal aliens. Johnson suffers from terminal unpopularity in Chicago, and probably won’t survive a primary challenge. Pritzker, however, believes that he is running for president. This murder and his comments, now that they are getting national attention, put a dent in those hopes. And it doesn’t have to be Republicans who remind Pritzker about Sheridan Gorman – it will likely be other Democrats who want to present themselves as more “moderate” than him in a general election. Out of the three politicians, Pritzker is the only one left with anything to lose. And he deserves to lose, should he attempt to run for president.
