Thunberg, Yachting for Climate Change

Climate change activists find it hard to resist one of their own. Especially when it’s fresh-faced, 16 year-old Greta Thunberg from Sweden.

Thunberg first gained national attention by walking out of school in the fight for a greener planet. She was subsequently joined by other students in climate change walkouts worldwide. Hey, who needs education when we’re all going to die in 10 years, anyway? She also said meeting with President Trump would be a “waste of her time”.

Why should I waste time talking to him when he, of course, is not going to listen to me? I can’t say anything that he hasn’t already heard.”-Greta Thunberg

Now, Greta is on a trans-Atlantic journey aboard a $4 million-dollar yacht. The Malizia , is a 60-foot, high-speed racing yacht. The journey itself is expected to take two weeks. The point Greta is trying to make? Who needs air travel, anyway?

Except the team who organized this virtue-signaling event will have to fly 5 people to New York to pick up said yacht. Psst-rumor has it, Greta and her dad are flying back, too. So much for poo-pooing airplanes, Greta.

Ahh. I smell the stench of white privilege, don’t you? Personally, I can think of things that smell so much better. I just love the smell of jet fuel in the morning!

As the German newspaper Taz points out, the yacht trip means more CO2 will be released into the atmosphere than if just Greta and her father had traveled by air because six members of her team have to fly back to Germany from New York.

‘The sailing trip triggers at least six climate-damaging air travel across the Atlantic. If Thunberg had flown with her father, only two would have been necessary to come to New York,’ reports Taz.-Zero Hedge

Greta compared her excursion thus far to “camping on a roller coaster“. She says she is not sea sick. Good for her. Because we are.

If those in power today don’t act, it will be our generation who will live through their failure. Those who are under 20 now could be around to see 2080, and face the prospect of a world that has warmed by up to 4C. The effects of such warming would be utterly devastating. Rivers would flood, storms would wreak havoc on coastal communities and coral reefs would be eliminated. Melting polar ice caps would lead to dramatically higher sea levels, flooding coastal areas. Places on Earth will become uninhabitable.”-Greta Thunberg

First off, I would like to say as a parent, that I wish Greta a safe journey. A trans-Atlantic crossing in any vessel that is not a luxury cruise ship is not for the faint of heart. There are people in the social media community who are saying some pretty hateful things about her and the crew’s safety and to me, that is unacceptable.

But here is where the reality check comes in. I saw a meme yesterday and thought about its truth. It read:

People worry about what kind of planet we’re leaving for our kids might want to consider what kind of kids are we leaving for our planet.”

Greta Thunberg has no sense of reality. Greta Thunberg has no sense of humor. I don’t blame Greta for these traits, I blame her parents for raising a privileged, little snot nose. We have way too many of these brat holes in the world today. Too many parents telling their kids that they can change the world and people have to listen to them. Too many parents telling their kids that their voice is important without telling their kids to listen to others and do their research before opening their big, fat mouths. Think I’m picking on this kid too much? It’s fine. She’ll be okay. Some Ivy League school will court her when it’s time and she’ll fly places to do speaking engagements while she turns her nose up on people like my husband because they fly jets and are wrecking the environment.

If Greta wants to do something about uninhabitable places, and I mean really DO something that will have concrete and tangible impact on our communities, perhaps she should visit inner cities or third-world countries (unlike Sweden) and see how those people live. You know, the ones who would never have an opportunity to go to school, much less skip it to virtue-signal and go on an extended yachting trip.

Just another publicity-hungry kid promoting a BS agenda while hiding behind a smokescreen!….A female Hogg!

What she should have gained was several weeks of detention and a good spanking.

can’t say anything that he hasn’t already heard.
Snookums, that’s true of ALL of us. And, in your case, we’ve all heard it from people with more technical and moral authority than you. So, stop being an attention sow* and get back in your place.
(* h/t to Lloyd there for that inspiration. What is a female Hogg but a Sow?)

I smell the stench of white privilege, don’t you?
    Western Civilization privilege, actually.
BTW, an interesting piece linked on Instapundit this morning, dealing with an aspect of this concept.)

only two would have been necessary to come to New York
Well, leaving aside the 5 flying over to sail back, if 2 had come over, 2 had to go back, so 4 legs total. Which is still less than either 6 or 5 legs, and much less than ELEVEN total (5 this way to sail home, 6 that way who sailed over).
Yes, this is called VIRTUE SIGNALING. It is also called HYPOCRISY.

    The effects of such warming
Are not at all what you’ve been led to believe. Which is a major reason a 16yo should shut her yap and listen to her elders. Well, the ones who actually know better. Those other elders should shut their yaps, too, and listen to actual people in the know – set a good example for the kids.

what kind of kids are we leaving for our planet
    Nailed it.

perhaps she should visit … third-world countries
Who produce an EXTRAORDINARY amount of ‘greenhouse gases’ compared to her native Sweden and places like the US. Once you get the sequoia out of your own eye, you might be able to talk to me about the dust mote in mine. Safe journey, pipsqueak. Hope you learn something true and useful. (But I doubt you will.)

Who’s funding this? If they buy me a $4 million yacht, I’ll sell my soul and start bitching about whatever they want me to. Hell, I’d do it for a $1 million dollar yacht. Or a canoe big enough to hold a few thousand’s-worth of booze. Or just the booze.

I can’t judge her for saying, “Why should I waste time talking to [Trump] when he, of course, is not going to listen to me? I can’t say anything that he hasn’t already heard.” That’s reasonable. Agree or disagree with her stance, there’s nothing really novel about her message. She’s like a cat playing a piano on YouTube… nothing but a cute prop.

*Full disclosure, I do believe there is an anthropogenic acceleration to global warming – though not to the point the alarmists claim. However, were I to choose to make any form of protest against President Trump (whom I have truly grown to appreciate), it would be against this political nonsense of gun control that he’s currently fiddling with.

She will meet David Hogg and they will reproduce.

I was reading somewhere ( I believe another post on VG) that this kid is on the autistic spectrum, and her parents basically let her run the house , turning them all vegan, and other sorts of nonsense… Yeah, it’s long past time for her parents to actually be parents, instead of giving her free reign to do stupid shit…

  • Slow Joe Crow says:

This reminds me of a recent Spanish language Twitter post, roughly ” Kylie Jenner takes two private jets on vacation while I have 18 months to stop global warming by drinking without a straw?”
Celebrities scolding about carbon footprint need to lead by example or STFU.
