“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” (Psalm 136:1)

Happy Thanksgiving to all my brothers and sisters, and also to the confused and even the furries. We should be epically grateful this year. Besides winning the Presidency, the Senate and House, we have many other blessings to celebrate on this Thanksgiving Day 2024. Yippee-freaking-skippy.
Many of us breathe more deeply and feel free to smile and even speak. The world is still off kilter and the evil one is trying to intimidate President Trump’s incoming Administration:
The FBI said in a statement that it is aware of “numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents targeting incoming administration nominees and appointees” and is working with other law enforcement. “We take all potential threats seriously, and as always, encourage members of the public to immediately report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement,” the statement added.
President Joe Biden was briefed Wednesday on the incidents, and a White House spokesperson told CNN the president and his administration “unequivocally condemn threats of political violence.”
“The President has been briefed. The White House is in touch with federal law enforcement and the President-elect’s team, and continues to monitor the situation closely. Federal law enforcement’s response, alongside state and local authorities, remains ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
Joe is too busy with his pudding in Nantucket to say even his famous “Don’t” to these cretins. I am calm. I am grateful. It’s Thanksgiving. Joe is almost gone. Deep Breaths.
Armstrong Williams wrote a beautiful column about gratitude in Real Clear Politics:
Look on the sunny side of life — endless opportunities to flourish based on skill, foresight, industry and ambition. Do not be held in bondage to the past. Move on. Life is imperfect, as mankind is made of crooked timber. Make the most of what you have. Nobody can steal your wisdom or spiritual purity — the most valuable of your possessions.
Gratitude is the opposite of selfishness, egotism, avarice or narcissism. It is the alpha and omega — community and domestic tranquility.
Americans enjoy more prosperity, convenience, luxury and safety than nearly any other people in human history. Our poorest citizens live better than medieval kings, with access to health care, technology and infrastructure that were unimaginable even a century ago. We live in the best of all possible worlds. Do not imitate Eeyore in “Winnie-the-Pooh,” who discerned something negative about everything.
We have every reason for gratitude as our Carol reminds us:
Happy Thanksgiving!
Dear Lord, thank you for being here with us today. Guide our hearts toward gratitude today and every day. pic.twitter.com/3hpJ8yvYGc— Carol reMarks (@carolremarks) November 28, 2024
One of my highest touchpoints this Thanksgiving is Samaritan’s Purse. We recall how FEMA used our tax dollars for illegal, criminal invaders. But who showed up when Helene hit Western North Carolina? Samaritan’s Purse, regional churches and synagogues and hardy individuals.
Samaritan’s Purse has been on the ground since Day One. They will continue to be there. They have launched a homebuilding program:
Samaritan’s Purse announced on Tuesday it’s launching a rebuild program for families who lost homes during storms from Hurricane Helene.
The Hurricane Helene Rebuild Program will help provide the following services for free, according to Samaritan’s Purse.
Manufactured home replacements
Repairs to stick-built homes
New stick-built home construction
Furniture assistance
Church grants
Residents in Johnson County, Tennessee and Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Madison, Mitchell, Yancey, and Watauga Counties in North Carolina can apply for the program.
Two thousand Thanksgiving meals are being handed out:
Now Serving is a Raleigh-based non-profit that serves to connect restaurants and caterers with the community to provide full meals to neighbors in need. Operating primarily in the Triangle region of North Carolina, it expanded its network to Asheville in response to Hurricane Helene.
“After Helene’s devastating run through North Carolina, we went to work to help ease some of the burden,” Greg Lowenhagen, executive director of Now Serving, said. “We forged a new partnership with The Scheffer Group restaurants and Food Connection to provide meals in Asheville.”
In addition to Thanksgiving meals, blankets and warm clothes will be available to residents. Healthcare workers and first responders will also receive Thanksgiving meals.
Before the Federal government got so overarching with all these programs funded with our tax dollars, people did for each other.
This year, Americans reminded the world that we don’t care for their approval. Actually, I thought of the East Tennessee singer Tennessee Ernie Ford.
“From the beginning, the fight we were winning” “Oh Lord, make us free.”
We know in the end we win and we are free. Thank God and be grateful this Thanksgiving. We have so much.
