Texas Stands Up To Biden Administration To Secure Its Borders

The Supreme Court made a ruling, but that doesn’t make it the end of the road for Texas. In fact, Governor Greg Abbott is making sure of that.

Anyone who has been paying attention to the Biden administration’s failures at the southern border knows that Texas has borne the brunt of what is happening. As a result, Governor Abbott declared a state emergency all the way back in NOVEMBER OF 2022. The Biden administration chose to do nothing. So Texas (with a healthy assist from Florida) shoved the illegal migrant problem straight into the laps of the so-called “sanctuary cities,” thereby getting the attention of not just blue state mayors and governors, but the media, who helpfully freaked out because they thought the actions would backfire on Abbott and Texas.

And the Biden administration just kept letting the border stay open, to the point that they decided to sue TEXAS for trying to secure it. The recent SCOTUS decision dealt with an injunction imposed by a lower court. The Biden administration wanted to remove the buoys and razor wire that Texas had put up across the Rio Grande River. SCOTUS, in a 5-4 decision, lifted the injunction and decided to allow the administration to remove the barrier. News flash – the Supreme Court didn’t tell TEXAS to do anything. They just told the administration that they could take down the barrier. There is no order for Texas to remove it.

Cue the freakout on the left when Governor Abbott threw down the Constitutional gauntlet.

The real money quotes from Abbott’s letter are the first and last paragraphs.

The federal government has broken the compact between the United States and the States. The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting States, including immigration laws on the books right now. President Biden has refused to enforce those laws and has even violated them. The result is that he has smashed records for illegal immigration.

The failure of the Biden Administration to fulfill the duties imposed by Article IV, § 4 has triggered Article I, § 10, Clause 3, which reserves to this State the right of self-defense. For these reasons, I have already declared an invasion under Article I, § 10, Clause 3 to invoke Texas’s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself. That authority is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary. The Texas National Guard, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and other Texas personnel are acting on that authority, as well as state law, to secure the Texas border.

Oh, and Abbott had MORE razor wire put up. After all, the Supreme Court said nothing about putting more fencing and barricades put in place.

Democrats have lost their minds.

The whole point is, of course, that Texas does have the right to defend itself from invasion. The federal government is in charge of immigration policy, but that does not prevent Texas from enforcing the laws already on the books, even if the Biden administration chooses NOT to enforce those laws. One Republican in Congress is putting up legislation to help Texas out.

Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) is introducing legislation to ban the federal government from removing border barriers in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling earlier this week that the Biden administration can take down razor wire Texas put up along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Restricting Administration Zealots from Obliging Raiders (RAZOR) Act would prohibit the federal government from removing border barriers built by Texas or any other state. This comes as Republicans and other critics have attacked President Biden for his border policies, arguing he is not doing enough to secure the border.

“President Biden is aiding and abetting illegal aliens who are swarming our border and raiding our country’s resources,” Collins said in a statement. “Why else would he try to stop the state of Texas from turning them back to Mexico?”

Several Republican governors have publicly backed Greg Abbott and Texas.

Joe Biden is absolutely dropping the ball on border security, and it is one of the top issues in the country right now. The administration could get this monkey off their backs simply by caving and passing the bill that tied Ukraine funding, Israel funding, Taiwan help, and border security together. After all, Biden REALLY wants that Ukraine funding to back up his sole foreign policy win. But this administration is apparently congenitally allergic to passing anything attached to stopping illegals from streaming over the border.

Greg Abbott, with this letter, is putting the ball back in the administration’s court. Texas does have the right and the obligation to secure its international border, despite whatever the federal government does not do. Recent polling notes that this is a losing issue for Joe Biden, and yet he (is he really running anything over there?), his administration, and Democrats are so ideologically wedded to the idea of letting illegals in to do their menial dirty work that they are apparently willing to take the political hit for it. Well, them taking that hit is punishing citizens and legal immigrants by flooding the system. Governor Abbott, for his part, isn’t going to stand by and do nothing.

Ironically, the Supreme Court gave Joe Biden exactly what he didn’t want. The administration probably thought that SCOTUS would side with Texas, the barrier would stay up against the administration’s wishes, and Biden could then complain about the Supreme Court and how they’re always thwarting him and that’s why he should get to pack the Court. Instead, the Court split in his favor and gave the administration the okay to remove the barrier. But if they take it down, that will make Biden completely and irrevocably own everything that happens on the border. Abbott is standing up to him, which gives Biden a “boogeyman” to fight, but the left is going to be screaming at Biden and the administration to Do Something™, and now they are stuck. They can either let Texas do the dirty work and secure the border, or they can rip down the razor wire and open the floodgates back up – and whatever comes next, like a terror attack, will be on their heads. The SCOTUS decision may end up being a wish on the monkey’s paw that Joe Biden will end up regretting – if he has the cognitive recall to remember and regret anything.

History lesson: when Governor Faubus of Arkansas refused to allowed “Little Rock 9” to enter Central High School in 1957 by using the Arkansas National Guard to block them, President Eisenhower eventually took control of the National Guard to allow the students to enter. So by the logic of this post, the author would be on the side of Governor Faubus? Because that’s what she’s advocating for.

The Supreme Court’s role is supposed to be the final arbiter of how laws are interpreted. And in this case, the majority— including two conservative justices— sided with the federal government. It should also be noted that Texas has an international border— which is what the Rio Grande is— and is therefore not the government in charge. So allowing this to continue could lead to an international incident. International borders, and really borders in general, fall under the auspices of the federal government. Or do you want border crossings at every state too?

I just love how an author who has previously railed against abortion and touted being pro-life is practically foaming at the mouth at the thought of migrants dying. You do realize that what precipitated this court case was the death of a mom and her two kids in the Rio Grande, correct? Federal agents were not allowed to help them and they drowned. But I suppose since they’re not white or white passing they don’t count? Gotta love the optics there!

Finally, Republicans have been reportedly ordered by Trump to not allow any bipartisan border control efforts. So this isn’t fully on Biden no matter how much you spin it. Last I checked, Congress would be responsible for passing legislation to help with the border crisis, but the House is too busy grandstanding and obstructing anything to allow that to happen.

    • The Biden Junta could care less about the lives of that mother and her children. It DOES care – GREATLY – about the loss of their kickback from the Cartels for the smuggling fees, and the future revenue from trafficking their bodies in the brothels.

    • Cameron says:

Oh look; you’re breaking out apples and complaining that it’s not the same as oranges. The federal government’s JOB is to protect the border. If they refuse to do it, you have no cause to whine when the states step up.

Source: My feelings, bro. Trust me.

And how about you blame the mother who killed herself and the child in an illegal crossing. You and your kind love to rant about how hard immigrants work but you can’t explain why they can’t do the hard work about coming to this country legally.

So this isn’t fully on Biden no matter how much you spin it.

Biden is President. This mess is fully on him. You spinning like a centrifuge is not going to change reality.

If only we could wrap these people in wire, we might find a truly “sustainable” source of electricity. We might have to do something about all the hot air expended, though….

    • GWB says:

Wow, what a dishonest and ignorant diatribe.
I was going to fisk… but it would be too long.

  • Bucky says:

To paraphrase President Andrew Jackson: “Mr Marshall has made his ruling now let him enforce it”.
