Teenage Jihadi Brides of Europe-The New ISIS Frontier

Teenage Jihadi Brides of Europe-The New ISIS Frontier

As parents in the modern age, we are faced with all kinds of problems. When do we let our children play with an iPad or an iPhone? How much television is too much? What can I bring to my childs school to celebrate their birthday that Michelle Obama and the guilt brigade hasn’t banned? Well, here is one I am sure that most American parents haven’t thought of but many European parents are coming face to face with-how do I protect my daughter from being recruited by jihadists?

Yes, you read that last sentence correctly. It seems that there are scores of young, Muslim girls that are being recruited to leave their homes in Europe to join men in groups like ISIS (Islamic State In Syria) and wage jihad against the West. According to an article written by Abagail Esman for the Investigative Project on Terrorism many underage, European Muslim girls are being targeted online by jihadi recruiters who are influencing them to leave their homes in places like the Netherlands to join the jihad in Syria. This is evidently nothing new, as reports have been written about “love jihad” in various blogs and news outlets about Christian, Sikh and Hindu women being targeted by “charming” Muslim men who woo them, get them to convert to Islam and then marry them and bring them into jihdi efforts in Pakistan, India and Syria since 2012 and earlier.

This trend came to light after a number of diplomatic cables were released following the Wikileaks incident that outlined the concerns of U.S. diplomats in the Chennai consul in India. As reported by Miles Collier of the Christian Post:

“Both Hindu and Christian groups have expressed fear and outrage at the ‘plot,’ while Muslim groups have felt the need to defend their co-religionists against the conspiracy theorists.”

The cable continued to explain that the “controversial phenomena of ‘love jihad’ had been responsible for exacerbating “religious tensions” in southern India.

The Commission for Social Harmony and Vigilance of the Kerala Catholic Bishops Council (KCBC) conducted a report which highlighted the grave nature of love jihadists. The report stated “that that there had been 2,868 female victims of the ‘love jihad’ in Kerala from 2006 to 2009.”

The commission also provided several recommendations to parents in order to monitor their young daughters. The recommendations included monitoring cell phones and computers in order to keep track of communications to prevent any form of coercion. They also suggested becoming aware of possible “charming young Muslim men involved in the scheme.”

The major issue it seems is that Muslim girls are as succeceptible to these efforts due to their tendency to suffer from low self esteem caused by being repressed by their family members and brothers, according to Dutch adolescent psychiatrist Carla Rus who specializes in treating young Muslim women. Western women are also getting in on the action and helping with the recruitment efforts, such as in the case of Moezdalifa El Adoui a Dutch-Morroccan girl who left her home to join the Syrian jihad. Two Belgian Muslim women had approached her on Facebook telling her she could get married and have a “perfect life” in Syria. Thankfully she was found in a German airport where she was going to fly to Turkey to make the crossing into Syria.

Many jihadis use the Turkish border to cross into Syria

Muslim parents in the Netherlands have been crying out for help from the government for at least a year now. In response to the latest issues with Western jihadis being reported as part of ISIS the Dutch are now threatening to revoke the dual citzenship of anyone found to be involved in jihadist activity. The only issue that this creates is that these girls, and possibly their future daughters, will be unable to return home to safety when the inevitable tragic end comes about and they see their “prince” is really just a jihadist frog. Where will these women be left then? I guess only time will tell.
