ABC Action News out of Philadelphia is reporting that the man in custody for attempting to execute a police officer late last night has confessed to the shooting and says that he did it “in the name of Islam”. The shooting occurred about 11:40 p.m. while Officer Jesse Hartnett was sitting in his police cruiser.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross reported during the news conference that the suspect in custody, Edward Archer, has pledged his loyalty to ISIS. The gun that Archer unloaded into Hartnett’s cruiser was stolen from another officer’s home in October, 2013, as reported by Philly.com.

Archer has claimed that he tried to execute the police officer “in the name of Islam”. The police are investigating whether Archer was radicalized. His mother says her son is mentally ill. From Philly.com:

Reached at her home in Lansdowne, his mother, Valerie Holliday, said Archer was the eldest of seven children and suffered head injuries from playing football and a moped accident.

“He’s been acting kind of strange lately. He’s been talking to himself . . . laughing and mumbling,” Holliday said. “He’s been hearing voices in his head. We asked him to get medical help.”

She said her son is devout Muslim who has practiced the faith “for a long time.”

“He’s going through a lot lately,” Holliday said, adding Archer believed he was targeted by police.

“I don’t know how he got the gun,” she said. “I’m still hoping they have the wrong child.”

However, Mayor Jim Kenney, in his first week on the job, said the shooting had nothing to do with “being a Muslim or the Islamic faith.” What? Really? But, the guy said that he did it “in the name of Islam”.

Mayor Kenney also said

“There are just too many guns on the streets and I think our national government needs to do something about that.”

Well done, Philadelphia. The fifth largest city in the United States of America has elected as her mayor a delusional idiot.

Officer Jesse Hartnett is a Coast Guard veteran. Although he will have a long recovery, he is expected to fully recover. Well done, Officer Hartnett.
