Al Jazeera’s “Fishy” Peyton Manning Story

Al Jazeera’s “Fishy” Peyton Manning Story

The sports world went nuts this weekend, and it wasn’t because of the NFL game upsets that messed up everyone’s fantasy football standings. Nope, instead the ugliness of HGH and performance enhancing drugs (PED) reared its ugly head again. Or did it?

Al Jazeera TV breathlessly proclaimed that they would air a major investigative story Sunday night entitled “The Dark Side.” The story is focused on the latest in HGH and PED drugs that professional athletes are supposedly flouting league rules with. Major NFL, MLB, and other sports figures were implicated by name. Those named include MLB’s Ryan Zimmerman and Ryan Howard, Steelers linebacker James Harrison, Green Bay Packers linebackers Clay Matthews and Mike Neal, and Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers. Clay Matthews called the report “laughable.” Steelers linebacker Harrison stated bluntly that the story is B.S. MLB stars Howard and Zimmerman issued the following statement:

“It’s inexcusable and irresponsible that Al Jazeera would provide a platform and broadcast outright lies about Mr. Howard and Mr. Zimmerman. The extraordinarily reckless claims made against our clients in this report are completely false and rely on a source who has already recanted his claims. We will go to court to hold Al Jazeera and other responsible parties accountable for smearing our clients’ good names.”

Of course, the guy who is receiving most of the attention because of this “story” is Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.

While Manning is normally composed and mild-mannered during interviews; he certainly wasn’t during this ESPN interview. He called the report a “freaking joke”
