These photos shocked the world today, as images of a drowned toddler flashed across the internet. The little boy was one of two Kurdish brothers who were drowned trying to escape war-torn Syria, crossing from Turkey into Greece at night. The brothers drowned when the overcrowded boat in which they were traveling capsized and threw the passengers into the sea, killing 13 of the 17 refugees.
The little boy was identified as three-year-old Aylan Kurdi. His five-year-old brother Galip, along with their mother, was also drowned. Only the father survived.
This has to rank up there with one of the more grotesque news items I’ve read recently. As readers will remember, James Foley, American journalist, was beheaded…
