Sunday Morning Cafe Cocktails

Mimosa, Bloody Mary, nice flute of champagne — or maybe a favorite tipple in your coffee. Make yourself one and join me at our own Algonquin Round Table, the spirit of Dorothy Parker abides.

Happy Sunday, dear friends! Grab a flute of the sparkly, a plate and find a seat. I’m certainly not tired of the winning and having each Sunday with you to celebrate — and share some belly laughs over the portside’s ridiculous meltdowns — is just an extra layer of ganache on a chocolate torte. Not just the pedal-to-the-metal stylings of our President Trump, the lightning strikes of Musk’s DOGE but right there with both J.D. Vance and Pete Hegseth on the straight-talking tour of Europe.

The least surprising news of the day

Who are the unhappiest people around?

The 2024 American Family Survey reportedly found that 37% of conservative women and 28% of moderate women, between the ages of 18-40, reported being “completely satisfied” with their lives, but just 12% of liberal women in the same age group said the same.

Liberal women were also nearly three times more likely than conservative women to say they experienced loneliness at least a few times a week.

Now, does Leftism cause unhappiness or are unhappy people drawn to Leftism? Po-TA-to, Po-TAH-to … But saying this about conservative women is darned spot-on.

“We’ve seen in the research that conservative women tend to be more likely to embrace a sense of agency and to have the sense that they are not, in any way, the victim of larger structural realities or forces,”

Yep.

I’m surprised they’re not using manual typewriters and abacuses

TEXT:

Federal employee retirements are processed using paper, by hand, in an old limestone mine in Pennsylvania. 700+ mine workers operate 230 feet underground to process ~10,000 applications per month, which are stored in manila envelopes and cardboard boxes. The retirement process takes multiple months.

Blasting away the latest Pravda Media talking point

Nothing says top-down Deep State orders than the astro-turfed talking points echoed, word for word, by Uni-party politicians and legacy media. The latest is “without proof”.

Say again?

Right there. The Department of Defense paying Reuters. REUTERS. And not for those fancy $10,000/year “subscriptions” ala Politico and the NYSlimes.

You just don’t hate media enough.

Yep, that’s how it’s going …

Snakehead has a case of the sads

Poor James Carville, what a bitter taste on his forked tongue when he has to be dragged to reality.

Democratic Party strategist James Carville admitted that the pace at which President Trump is fulfilling his executive duties is throwing his party off balance.

In the latest episode of the “Politics War Room” podcast, Carville lamented how Democratic lawmakers are floundering in trying to stop the president’s second term agenda.

“We’re getting overwhelmed,” he told podcast co-host Al Hunt.

“Things that we thought that would kill a political career, would be poisonous for whatever reason, this guy keeps chugging along.”

James is floundering, too, because he keeps blaming others for the Democrats own actions

Pointing to the gender rules that were enumerated during a recent Democratic National Committee meeting – that went viral due to their woke nature – the longtime Democratic strategist suggested that someone was sabotaging the party from within by suggesting these policy points.

“And it’s like, there’s a, a plant somewhere in quote, progressive, unquote America, that just to seize how many jacka–, stupid things that they can embrace, it’s stunningly stupid. Both of them.”

No, James. This isn’t outside, double-secret Conservative ninjas in your midst. This is all home grown.

Remember, the Pentagon has failed seven audits in a row

They’re stealing from the troops, too.

TEXT:

SHOCK: The U.S. Army has diverted over $151 million meant for soldiers’ food, according to the Military Times.

Financial records show that more than half of the money collected from junior enlisted troops was spent elsewhere.

Food fund allocations at select Army bases:

• Fort Stewart, Georgia: $17 million collected, $2.1 million spent on food
• Fort Drum, New York: $18.2 million collected, $3.9 million spent on food
• Fort Carson, Colorado: $22 million collected, $5 million spent on food
• Fort Riley, Kansas: $19.1 million collected, $5.1 million spent on food
• Fort Bliss, Texas: $22 million collected, $11 million spent on food
• Fort Cavazos, Texas: $42.5 million collected, $11.7 million spent on food
• Fort Bragg, North Carolina: $34.6 million collected, $16.6 million spent on food
• Fort Campbell, Kentucky: $18 million collected, $5.1 million spent on food

Army officials refused to disclose where the missing funds went, despite growing concerns about food shortages on bases.

Soldiers require sufficient meals with adequate caloric intake and nutrition. Meanwhile, taxpayers demand that their funds are spent on what the U.S. government claims they are being spent on.

The Pentagon continues to be in need of reform. The DOGE’s audit of the Department of Defense should be an informative one, since it has failed seven audits in a row.

Courtmartial everyone that diverted these funds.

Sunday palate cleanser

I can’t stop laughing, and I’m not sorry.

Your Sunday smile

Not only do I stand and applaud these teenagers for their work, but kudos to their teacher for not just teaching the skills but giving them purpose, too. And yes yes yes, it is a fine thing to see high schools still offering Shop Class.

**************************

Dear friends, here we are again at the end of our brunch together. Always too early! But I’m sure this next week will be another one worthy for popcorn and history making. Buckle up, dears, and go enjoy the day! Cheers!

  • John C. says:

The main reason few schools have Shop classes anymore is due to fear of the school being sued when one of the Little Darlings violates a safety rule and gets injured, and the parents sue. You will note I did not say “if”. I am a retired Shop teacher, and saw all that come in. Fear of being sued is the reason for “Zero Tolerance” policies, also, but that is a separate discussion.

    • GWB says:

The other impetus to eliminating them is a lack of interest. To get all of the prerequisite classes for getting into college, and the idea that everyone must go to college to be something other than a bum, shop becomes a nice-to-have. While students were still interested, it became a way to trim money from budgets while pushing even more kids into that only-successful-if-you-go-to-college track.

And, yes, the insurance policies were a huge money sink, too.
(And, I remember parents suing, even though they read and signed all the paperwork before the kid enrolled in that class. And we let them.)

  • GWB says:

taxpayers demand that their funds are spent on what the U.S. government claims they are being spent on
Up to a point. One thing folks don’t understand is those funds also get spent on the infrastructure for the dining halls, etc. Some of that money is funded separately, but some of it – just like part of what you pay for your croissanwich goes to keep the furnace/air conditioning going in the individual store, some of the deduction for meals goes to pay for things other than food. We need to be careful we don’t get into the “We paid $6,000 for a toilet?! That’s outrageous!” territory. (That toilet was for the space shuttle and it had to work in microgravity and with a vacuum outside.) Dig and find the truth, but let’s keep the outrage in check until we know the details.

Kudos to that shop class teacher and the students..
