Spending Bills Without Hyde Nor Helms Amendments Would Force Tax-Payers to Pay for Abortions Here AND Abroad
I almost never touch the third rail of the “abortion issue.” By and large, I have been a pure libertarian in this regard. As long as your rights don’t infringe on my rights, that is a decision between you and God. Have mercy on your soul. But when I read this Time Magazine article I about lost my mind. Not only was the 1976 Hyde Amendment stricken from the proposed federal spending bill, but the lesser known 1973 Helms Amendment was dropped from the State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs spending bill. You and I would be forced to pay for abortions both here AND abroad. I just couldn’t speak in coherent sentences after reading the piece.
“These provisions have long had a terrible and disproportionate impact on low-income women and women of color,” Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, argued. “Getting them off the books will be a huge step forward for reproductive and racial justice.”
You know what would also be great? People taking responsibility for their UNNECESSARY actions. Look, I am already paying for other people’s housing, I am already paying for other people’s medical care, I am already paying for people NOT to work (especially in the last 18 months.) Why in the ever-loving holy hell do I need to pay for other people’s sex lives??

We are in the 21st freaking century my man, er women! If we are teaching kids how to masturbate in the 1st grade, then I am fairly certain they know how to use a condom by the time they are in middle school. “Oh, but it just doesn’t feel the same!!” – Yeah, no $#!&, it feels like being a parent.
Which I wouldn’t know about because I made choices in my life! Choices that were right for me and my neighbors at large, but damn if it didn’t come with a ton of regret. From the time I was 13 or so, I wanted children. I stared at myself in the mirror in some weird housecoat my mother had and puffed out my belly, so it looked like I was pregnant. Then I started saving anything and everything I wanted to show my unborn daughter. I oddly remember wondering when to tell said phantom child about sex. Before I had ever had sex. I was a weird kid.
But as a child of the 80’s, I was a rebellious and foolish girl. I made unwise, unsafe, and very un-sober decisions that could have changed my life forever. I was adamantly pro-choice.
But at the age of 22, we were a long way away from Roe -v- Wade. Science gave us a lens to the womb that was unimaginable in 1973. I saw the cover of a Time Magazine (ironically) from November 11, 1992. It changed my personal stance completely. I still wouldn’t take another women’s “right” from her…but my choice ended with that Time Magazine piece.
So, I continued to make choices. Just smarter ones. More sober ones. More self-sacrificial one. Before I knew it, I was 42 and I finally married to a man worth having a family with. But now my body couldn’t. I made choices that precluded me having children. So, I sure as hell am not cool with paying for someone else’s child because she can’t figure out how to get some damn birth control. Rep. Barbara Lee continues to insult me in the article:
“It’s a racial justice issue. It’s an economic justice issue,” she says. Democrats and reproductive rights groups say the amendment creates significant barriers for low-income women and women of color, who are disproportionately affected by the ban.
Yeah, what a load of horse manure. Just walk down any street in the Las Vegas strip and condoms are handed out like candy. As that rebellious teenager can attest, there a TON of free birth control out there. No insurance required. And having unprotected sex might be a right. But getting a free government subsidized abortion isn’t. Roe v. Wade established a woman’s right to kill her baby without the government stopping her. That’s it.
And if I am not willing to pay for the killing of my next-door neighbor’s baby, then I surely am not interested in paying for some pregnant woman’s abortion in Syria or Botswana or the Sudan. I don’t care how much mental health it might cost her. There are charities for that. If it’s such a left-wing pet project, go hit up Zuckerberg or Soros. They got some spare coins. Leave mine in my pocket please.
And that’s just on the fundamental “unfairness” of the ask. Let’s get real. The progressive left doesn’t want reproductive rights. They want to end birth. Of poor people, of black people, of white people, of rich people. They are winning on the rich, white front. We quit popping them out some time ago. At least not at the same rate.
If life mattered to the progressive left as much as they purport to when they scream at me about the damned vaccination and my missing mask… then they would care about abortion. But they don’t. Being Pro-baby killer says it all. The Hyde and Helm amendments will save a hell of a lot more lives than the face-diaper ever will. Rep. John Joyce of (R) of Pennsylvania sums it up clearly:
But to the neo-Marxist, Democratic Socialists of America, babies might mean families, and families to the left are a “social construct” that must be abolished. The Government should be your God; welfare should be your family. Why do you think we have to castigate men at all costs? So, women won’t breed with them. Why does the nth iteration of feminism mock the mother? Why do we now have a freaking Congress who strips the word MOTHER from its vocabulary? Birthing Person? Really.
Can you not see how this is all part of the same goal? They need to dehumanize us in order to control us. If they can “save” the planet while they’re at it, all the better. We humans do love to suck on the tit we call Mother Earth. The more we can encourage abortion, encourage the end of the family unit, encourage the notion that mother-hood is a traitorous version of a women. All the better.
You keep spewing that garbage. And I’ll keep opposing you. But you don’t get one filthy dime of my money to pay for the choices of other people I wish I could have made for myself. Good luck with that. I think there are more than a handful of Democrats in the Senate who will wonder if this is the hill they want to die on.

PPP has been deleting the black race in America since it’s founding by a woman who did not want certain people to reproduce. Democrats are and have been deleting Blacks all of this time and pretending that they are doing it out of love.

Uh, not quite. There’s a question looming beneath it all: whether the unborn child is a human being with human rights, including the right to life. Many libertarians (I’m one) answer that question in the affirmative. We oppose abortion as morally repugnant for that reason.
Most people who oppose abortion do so for the morally repugnant reason as you do, however, that being said, are you just smugly going to pronounce that and walk away? Every day this happens, every day more babies die while their mothers walk way. Now they will walk away even more easily. Abortion needs to be a hard, difficult task, not a quick easy trip and back to the fun. It needs to be in the back of every mind, male and female, before the fun. That’s the way it was before governments got involved. I cannot see how to change minds to this “old-fashioned” thinking other than removing the money! Now even the money will come faster and easier, and you, my Libertarian Friend, will pay for it just like the rest of us. I’d rather pony up for an ad campaign or a senator’s voice against all this than pay for one more lost soul. Unfortunately it seems we’ve come back to the root of all evil, the love of money!
Every piece of legislation needs to have the part of the constitution that gives the power to enact that proposal. I’m damned sick and tired of watching the alleged Representatives of the People create obviously unconstitutional laws that make some people happy at the expense of many. And idiots in positions to enforce it all HAVE BEEN HAPPY to do so.. It’s all color of law bullshit.

She’s arguing that low-income and “women of color” are too stupid to keep themselves from getting pregnant. Why does she NOT support their sterilization? Wouldn’t that be more effective?
