Somali Fraud in Minneapolis Was Hiding in Plain Sight. Now What?

Somali Fraud in Minneapolis Was Hiding in Plain Sight. Now What?

Well, well, well. It turns out the tinfoil hat crowd was right again. This week, federal officials admitted what anyone paying attention already knew. Nearly half of all Somali immigrants in the Minneapolis area have committed some form of immigration fraud. Not a handful. Not a few isolated cases. Half. The schemes range from sham marriages to fake death certificates to paperwork so bizarre even immigration officials had to laugh before they cried.

This is not breaking news. It is just the first time anyone in power has had the spine to say it out loud.

We Saw This Coming a Mile Away

Let’s stop pretending this was ever about compassion. What happened in Minneapolis was not some noble experiment in refugee resettlement. It was a calculated decision to look the other way while fraud ran wild. Everyone involved knew it. They saw the red flags, shrugged, and opened the door even wider.

We knew the truth as far back as 2008, when the State Department was forced to pause a Somali family reunification program after DNA tests showed that 80 percent of the people claiming to be “relatives” weren’t related at all. Eighty percent. That is not a paperwork mistake. That is a scam operation.

It was in the news, but you’d never know it from how little attention it got. A government program built on 80 percent fraud should have set off alarms everywhere, but instead it was treated like a footnote. The stories ran, sure, but they were tucked away and written in the driest possible terms. Politicians didn’t discuss it, the press didn’t investigate, and most Americans never realized how serious it was. That wasn’t an accident, it was easier to downplay the problem than admit the system was being openly abused.

Fraud Was The Goal All Along

Any country that cared about its own laws would have shut it down right there. Ours didn’t. It pushed ahead. Officials ignored the evidence and dared anyone to question what was happening. And why? Because calling out obvious fraud might get them labeled bigots. Because pointing to the problem might upset a few activists. And because Barack Obama was never interested in preserving the country he was elected to lead. He was interested in remaking it. And mass migration was one of the most effective ways to do it.

Fraud wasn’t the exception. It became the foundation. And anyone who pointed that out was treated as the enemy.

As far back as 2008, the State Department temporarily suspended one of the family reunification programs used by Somali immigrants when DNA testing of applicants found that 80% of all its claimed family relationships were fake.

Immigration fraud in this community has been the norm.

And when it comes to “bizarre schemes,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) serves as Exhibit A. – New York Post

Enter Ilhan Omar, America’s Favorite Rule Breaker

Of course, no story about Somali immigration fraud is complete without mentioning its most famous beneficiary, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. She has been dogged for years by credible accusations that she married her own brother to help him gain legal status. The paper trail is clear. Public records, social media posts, and eyewitness accounts all point to the same conclusion. Omar’s explanations, on the other hand, have ranged from evasive to nonexistent.

When pressed, she does not answer questions. She calls the people asking them bigots. When local reporters tried to investigate in 2019, she refused to cooperate. When evidence showed she filed joint tax returns with one man while legally married to another, nothing happened. And when investigators dug deeper, her defenders screamed about racism until everyone else got tired and moved on.

Meanwhile, she climbed the political ladder, lecturing Americans on morality while refusing to address her own very questionable past.

It Was Never Just About Immigration

The fraud does not stop with fake family trees and phony marriages. Members of the same community were also deeply involved in the largest COVID-era scam in the country, the Feeding Our Future scheme that stole more than 250 million dollars from taxpayers. Prosecutors say they are now uncovering Medicaid fraud in the billions. And still, the political class looks the other way.

At this point, it is impossible to believe this is just a few bad apples. This is a culture of corruption that took root because no one ever bothered to pull it up by the roots. It is what happens when politicians care more about optics than law enforcement and when media outlets are too terrified to tell the truth.

Obama’s Gift That Keeps on Taking

Do not forget who started this. Barack Obama’s refugee policies created the pipeline that brought tens of thousands of Somali nationals to Minnesota. He sold it to Americans as an act of humanitarianism. What we got instead was a broken system that rewarded deception, punished scrutiny, and produced a sitting member of Congress who may have committed immigration fraud and suffered zero consequences.

The people who sounded the alarm were mocked. The ones who ignored it were rewarded. And now the government is telling us what we already knew all along.

So Now What

Here is the real question: will anything actually happen? Will anyone go to jail, or will Ilhan Omar ever face a single consequence for the lies that built her career? Will fraudulent visas be revoked and stolen taxpayer money recovered, or will this just become another scandal people pretend to care about for a week before moving on to the next headline?

The fraud is not a theory anymore. It is documented, widespread, and admitted by the very agencies that spent decades pretending it was not real. So spare us the shocked headlines. We do not need a lecture on how complex the situation is. What we need is accountability and action. And we need leaders willing to say enough is enough.
