A few days ago, sociology PhD candidate Nicole Bedera informed the world via Twitter that she found no evidence that false rape accusations cause harm to the falsely accused.
As part of my dissertation, I set out to gather evidence of whether or not men accused of rape really had their "lives ruined." I never found any evidence of a ruined life. But I heard a lot of stories from survivors about overwhelming trauma, including a lot of suicide attempts.

Stop perpetuating the myth that rape allegations "ruin lives." They don't. But spreading that myth around has real implications for survivors who will be traumatized over and over again by the people who believe that a perpetrator's "ruined life" is all there is at stake.

It’s a “myth” that rape allegations “ruin lives?” This is utter horse shit.
Nicole is writing her dissertation on this premise. A dissertation that requires at least a half-hearted attempt at research. But NOOOO… as soon as you look at her preceding tweets, its very evident that Nicole has an agenda. One in which truth and facts don’t matter.
False accusations don’t cause harm? Let’s look at certain Rolling Stone article. The same article in which a jury found that Rolling Stone, Wenner, and reporter Sabrina Erdely acted WITH MALICE in reporting a story about a fraternity at UVA that supposedly raped a college freshman? A story that was found to be completely false? That one?
Yet Nicole is here to tell us that no one is ever hurt by false accusations of rape. Let’s go back to the evidence shall we?
Duke Lacrosse ring a bell? KC Johnson of Durham-in-Wonderland and Legal Insurrection covered the case extensively. As Mary Katherine Hamm points out there was, at a minimum, at least ten instances of glaring wrong-doing in regards to the false accusations made by a stripper Crystal Gail Mangum. The players were exonerated, but at major cost to themselves and their reputations.
“Said Reade Seligmann, upon his exoneration:
“This entire experience has opened my eyes to a tragic world of injustice I never knew existed. If police officers and a district attorney can systematically railroad us with absolutely no evidence whatsoever, I can’t imagine what they’d do to people who do not have the resources to defend themselves.”
To this day, most of the Duke faculty and leadership who prejudged the lacrosse players remain in their positions and have never apologized. Media figures who apologized or retracted are few and far between. Instead, most coverage offered grudging reporting on the dismissal of charges.”
Nicole? Tell me again that false accusations cause no harm upon the falsely accused?
Perhaps Nicole needs a few more examples. Mattress Girl ring any bells? How about the case of Joseph Roberts? Out of the blue he received an email from Savannah State University ordering him to stay off campus. Further more the school circulated a photo of him urging his arrest by police if he is seen on campus. But no harm came to him regarding the false accusations…right Nicole?
“Roberts said he hit rock bottom after what happened to him.
“I woke up not responsive, surrounded by EMTs and firefighters with an empty bottle of alcohol and a bottle of pills … suicide attempt. That was the worst,” he said.”
Nicole’s agenda means throwing due process out the window and believing all accusations whether there is merit or not. Kavanaugh effect is definitely in play here. As pointed out by KC Johnson several years ago in a conversation with Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit, due process is not a factor on college campuses, and these days it seems that it’s no longer a factor when it comes to politics and the Supreme Court.
Don’t get me wrong, there are true victims out there. The horrific Stanford rape case in which the judge gave rapist Brock Turner probation, is one. The key in that case and others is that the FACTS support the accusations.
Yet Nicole’s premise is that, if an accusation is false, it’s NO BIG DEAL. Why? Because no harm, no foul.
Hundreds of young men wrongly accused are in therapy for trauma. Many have contemplated or attempted suicide.
Some have actually completed suicide.
Jay Cheshire (in UK) hanged himself after a false accusation. A year later his mother hanged herself.
But yeah, no lives ruined. https://t.co/2RuMZRwOFN

Nicole’s entire premise is that a woman can be raped by a guy, but the “system” will always swing into action to protect the man! She claims that “Justin” didn’t offer her any evidence to support the premise that he is falsely accused and his life has been harmed as a result. Did she ever stop to think that he clammed up because he realized her agenda was that of #BelieveAllWomen regardless of facts and truth? Probably not.
Nicole’s dissertation is an agenda-driven train wreck. It is one that will cause MORE harm to those truly raped and those falsely accused. The Kavanaugh hearings are the cause, this is one of the awful side effects of that mess.

Sadly, her dissertation will be accepted.
Emmett Till, Ernest Thomas, and Samuel Shepherd were not available for comment.
I wonder what school would grant a Ph.D. for such politically-driven dreck.
Any and/or all of them, sadly…..
Almost all of them. THAT is the shocking part.
Astoundingly, here’s her record:
B.S. in Sociology (2014) at Westminster College
M.A. in Sociology (2016) at University of Maryland
Ph.D. candidate, University of Michigan
Michigan is generally considered the third best public university in the country, behind Berkeley and UCLA, and just ahead of Texas and Illinois. So, sadly, Fred is right; the answer is—almost all of them.
Nicole, sweetie, sit down, be quiet, and let me manslplain.
Apparently there was an error in granting your Masters, BA, HS diploma, and Preschool-K gold stars.
“Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so”
-Mr. Reagan.
Duke…”Instead, most coverage offered grudging reporting on the dismissal of charges.”
Dismissal of charges? I believe the four gentlemen involved were uncharacteristically
PRONOUNCED INNOCENT, rather than not “found” guilty.
I don’t remember Nancy Grace chomping at the bit the next day to announce THAT.
Tell me again that false accusations cause no harm upon the falsely accused?
The problem is, Nina, that you’re not presenting any counter-evidence. Tell me what harm they have suffered. (* see below)
You’re also picking poor examples, imo, because these folks obtained justice (though they had to fight to get it) in the end. Their lives were able to go on, precisely because they eventually got justice to actually work.
No, you need to go dig up examples of men who did NOT face a competent jury or have the ability to sue. *points to Joe in PNG’s comment*
To this day, most of the Duke faculty and leadership who prejudged the lacrosse players remain in their positions and have never apologized.
That’s not really harm to the accused men, but harm to society in general.
suicide attempt
Yes, this. This is one example of actual harm.
(BTW, some on the left will say “but that was his response to the accusations, not harm from the accusations themselves,” totally ignoring how hypocritical that is when their normal response is not to assign responsibility to an individual for their own actions.)
The key in that case and others is that the FACTS support the accusations.
No. It’s that the evidence supports the accusations. The facts may support accusations in a whole lot of cases, but there’s no evidence. THAT is a big reason I advise women to do the smart things to protect themselves – so it’s never just your word against his when it comes to an assault or rape. It’s a way of arming yourself – for the legal fight, instead of just the physical one.
it’s NO BIG DEAL. Why? Because no harm, no foul.
Let’s someone accuse her of federal fraud on her college funding. Or of molesting a child. She might see where the harm is then.
*And, of course, the legal battle and all of its baggage IS harm. There is cost involved. There is time away from your life involved. There may be actual temporary incarceration involved. That’s ON TOP of the fear and consternation and stress. If you’ve never been taken to court on a semi-serious charge, then you may not understand all of those things.
Of course, another problem is confusing the problems. Those saying “well, no men were actually harmed” often compare to “the victims who were really harmed.” Well, any victims were only harmed if they were actual victims, which they are not in the case of a false accusation. So, the real result is victims hurt in actual assault/rape cases, “victim” not hurt, but innocent man hurt, in false cases. But, in false cases, there is an additional victim: the Rule of Law. And that hurts us all.

Nicole is a prime example that they don’t teach common sense in college ! She is a perfect example of lunacy.
The woman is either disingenuous or ignorant. One or the other
Embrace the healing power of “And”
You forgot malicious man-hater.
All the above?
My ex wife Jing H. Yu falsely accused me of DV and then blackmailed me out of everything I had or ever will have.
So yeah–false accusations to cause harm.
“I never found any evidence of a ruined life.”
What a pathetic statement. I’m not sure if the blame for this incredibly faulty reasoning is because her teachers have failed her miserably or if she is just a terrible student.
It’s a myth that beheadings ruin lives. If anything, it just allows the victim to meet God sooner and get on with their glorious afterlife. Discuss
Well, false accusations cause no harm to anyone she cares about (or even considers human),
And this is only about the false accusations of rape, so it does not include any of the men expelled from colleges, denied degrees, etc on the allegations of women, often their consensual lovers, who changed their minds about giving their consent months to years later. Often, the accusation is not for rape, but for lesser offenses, like “sexual assault”, i.e., drunken groping engaged in by the man, sometimes enthusiastically by the “victim” too. The accuser often maintains friendly contact with the accused, proven by texts and emails (which are seldom admitted in the college kangaroo court), and file charges only after being rejected, jilted or broken up with by the supposed “rapist”.
In most cases, the accused does not have the wherewithal, legal knowledge or financial resources to fight these charges, and will find it difficult to gain admittance to any other college. Those that do have the resources sue and very large financial awards are often granted, and there are never any negative consequences to the woman for false accusations in these cases.
What a coincidence that on your page the mid-page add that came up on my browser was a YouTube video entitled “How the Trump Administration Could Hurt Campus Rape Survivors” (published by “Now This”).
Seriously, my browser is blocking trackers, so I don’t think this ad feed was generated from my side. I suspect that some SJW jackass has tweaked the algorithm to make sure that the YouTube propaganda machine is front and center.
Not sure what you can do about it, but I thought you might want to know that it looks like your ad feed is being hijacked.
A co-worker of of mine was accused of rape by an ex girlfriend. he lost his job, then his car, then his house.
The detectives dropped the case after she admitted she made it up. No charges for her.
