#RIPTwitter is trending on Elon’s somewhat newly acquired social media platform, and people are hot! Yours truly included. Listen, I know people think Twitter is nothing but trash, but I argue it’s all in the way you use it and who you follow.
I’ve been on Twitter since it was created back in 2006, albeit under several different usernames and accounts where I would start one, delete it, and start another. This is possibly one of the reasons this new and, hopefully, temporary rule has been put in place, to clean up the joint and get rid of some dead weight.
To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits:
– Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day
– Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day
– New unverified accounts to 300/day— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 1, 2023
Whatever data scraping and system manipulation means. But I suspect it’s to clean up the platform. Some say it is to get people to buy into his blue checkmark subscription service. Maybe. And so far, it isn’t evident how long this new “temporary” rule will be in place. Or at least I haven’t been able to find any information on how long the outage will last.
Musk explained that unverified accounts, users who do not pay $8 month for a blue check mark, will be limited to reading 600 posts a day. Meanwhile, verified accounts are limited to 6,000 daily posts and new unverified accounts can only view 300 tweets per day. – Mediate
Of course, it’s a free platform, and yadda yadda yadda, stop complaining, Carol. And, of course, we all know it’s his business, and he can run his affairs however he sees fit.
The billionaire businessman took to Twitter himself to give us a directive.
you awake from a deep trance,
step away from the phone
to see your friends & family— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 2, 2023
Since this is a holiday weekend, okay. But yes, we should spend more time with our family and friends regularly, on holiday weekends.
I’m still a little chapped about this whole thing, but I know I’ll get over it, and after all, it’s just a social media platform. I don’t use it for business. But some do and let this be a lesson never to rely on someone else’s platform to host your entrepreneurial dreams.
Another thought I had when I first experienced the outage was that Elon was censoring us by limiting our access. Communist!
Mike Benze did an 8-minute walk and talk regarding this situation, and it is indeed very interesting. He rattles off a lot in this short video. It’s worth your time.
Wow. Musk has no idea the DARPA rattlesnake he just stepped on by this doing this…
My take on @elonmusk’s new rate limit policy, from the lens of the censorship industry: https://t.co/AZ5SPIgHiz pic.twitter.com/Rw4KBZsT9O

First, I am impressed with how he can walk and talk out in the heat with his shirt buttoned all the way up without getting out of breath. Secondly, AI Deathstar; no idea what that means, but it sounds ominous.
This outage is a big deal. Big-time YouTube Vlogger and video game designer, YongYea talks about Twitter’s asinine decision to limit Tweets.
A lot of people get their news from Twitter. Yes, that’s correct. Journalists and news agencies use Twitter to get their stories out to the public. There have been many changes on Twitter since Elon bought the platform, and Deanna wrote about one of the big upsets since its purchase back in October of 2022.
I will give it another 24 hours or until after the 4th of July to figure out what I will do. I know what I’m NOT going to do, Truth Social. And I don’t use Instagram to stay updated on newsy scoops. Facebook is definitely not the way either. Don’t even mention TikTok; no, thank you.
Over the last few years, I really have come to l like Twitter once I figured out how I wanted it set up with who to follow and what community or #hastags to be involved with over there. I might have to consider a couple of options if this limited access is permanent. I could unfollow accounts, leaving just the newsy accounts to follow. That would help to weed out the Tweets and get me to stay within the 600 allotted daily.
Honestly, I’m unsure how I will handle this if it continues. I have long supported Twitter, defending it when people would trash-talk it. But I may have to leave the platform and figure something else out.

There is a good read about someone explaining the purpose behind the rate limiting here:

That’s assuming you were able to read it. Nope.
Point taken.
To the admins: Permission to post the article here?
I know people think Twitter is nothing but trash
Meh. It’s just a digital form of putting your sign up on lamp posts all over town.
Then going around and adding a sign to other people’s signs.
Some of those signs are fine. Most are just clutter. A few are downright obscene.
And things seem to be back to normal this morning.
Maybe.
