Political Correctness and the SPLC

Political Correctness is the most well-meaning toxic mess out there. It is one thing to vehemently disagree on an issue or not like someone for a random and frankly silly reason. Then there are the charming folks from the SPLC. AP reports

Many consider The Southern Poverty Law Center’s annual list of U.S. extremist groups an authoritative glimpse into racist and anti-government activity, but some of its targets contend the civil rights advocacy group is actually focused on silencing conservative viewpoints – sometimes with serious consequences.

The problem that this presumably well-meaning group has is that they are not unbiased and do not come without an agenda. And their lists are not just about racists and government haters: the list swoops up anyone who disagrees with their views on social issues. And the consequences are toxic.

The Family Research Council blames a 2012 shooting at its Washington, D.C., headquarters on its inclusion on the SPLC’s hate-group list. The council’s website says its mission “is to advance faith, family and freedom in public policy and the culture from a Christian worldview.”

How exactly is following what this group considers its biblical mandate racist or antigovernment? I am frankly baffled. But it gets worse and frankly partisan to a stupid degree.

In its annual report, released Wednesday, the SPLC said the number of hate groups and anti-government organizations in the United States jumped sharply in 2015 as political speech became more divisive, violent encounters between police and black men were increasingly publicized, and attacks in Paris and California spurred widespread fears of terrorism.

If the SPLC was being accurate, the knockout game perpetrators surely would be on the list. They target people not of their race because of the color of their skin, right? And the silliest statement about divisive political speech ever is historically ignorant. I am a history nerd and the election of 1884 would make Potok and the SPLC cry.

1884 Election speechGrover Cleveland won as a result of his political rivals going full stupid. And the election posters from both parties that year were frankly horrible. To the SPLC all I can say is this: grow up and realize politics is ugly, messy, divisive and drama filled. Especially in an election year. Things are said and frankly Trump and his followers annoy the hell out of me but really put the stupid on parade and let the voters hear it and decide for themselves. And tell me the below speech is not divisive:

If divisive political speech is a problem for these fine self-appointed arbiters of political correctness, then surely the words of divisive folks on the left and right will be condemned right? Or the SPLC is a politically motivated partisan group of……haters.

They are hopeless. The intentions of groups like this one were good over 50 years ago but since all their aims have been achieved they have morphed into yet more Lefty tools in order to survive. And given how the entire Progressive movement looks under every bed for “racists” a group like this will be around for a whole lot of years.

Sad but true. Of course to the left anyone who disagrees with their opinions is a racist….. the word loses its power to shock when it is overused so maybe the idiots are useful for something….
