Letitia James mortgage fraud troubles are even more problematic when you factor in a niece with a record living rent free in her Virginia home. Letitia has a lot to answer for here.
A one-page mortgage document signed by New York state Attorney General Letitia James is at the center of the federal criminal charges for which she now faces 60 years in federal prison.
In the “second home rider” for her mortgage, which was obtained by The Post, James attested that the property would be a second home occupied primarily by her.
It allowed her to secure a better mortgage rate from Old Virginia Mortgage/Annie Mac — netting her nearly $19,000 in mortgage savings, according to federal prosecutors.
I tell you what, $19,000 in savings on a mortgage is a huge deal both for the payment itself and the terms therein! However, there’s a big problem with all of this. The primary occupant has NOT been Letitia. Nope, it’s a niece of hers and her family.
The New York Times very sympathetically lays out the details.
Attorney General Letitia James of New York purchased the $137,000 home for a grandniece who needed tranquillity. Prosecutors say it is an impermissible investment property.
OH. Tranquility? From what? Let’s see what her tranquility and placid existence was all about. First, she testified under oath that her rental payments have been…ZERO.
In the indictment, the prosecutor, Lindsey Halligan, accuses Ms. James of having misrepresented the purpose of the house when she purchased it in August 2020 for $137,000. The indictment says that while Ms. James indicated to her mortgage broker that she expected to use the house as a second home, she had instead used it as a “rental investment property, renting the property to a family.”
But in June, Ms. Thompson testified to a grand jury in Norfolk that she had lived in the house for years and that she did not pay rent, a person familiar with her testimony said. She was not asked to testify again, and the grand jury that voted to indict Ms. James was not seated in Norfolk, but in Alexandria.
Huh. How about that? Evidently, according to the “legal experts” the New York Times can proclaim that the burden of proof on this case is very high. OH REALLY? Before I get into that, let me point out that Nakia Thompson, James’ niece has a pretty significant criminal record that includes felony abuse of a child and assaulting cops…TWICE! Furthermore, she’s broken her parole that was granted in an entirely different state.
That same year, Thompson was given two years’ probation and ordered to pay $2,020 in fees after she pleaded guilty to petit and grand larceny charges — both felonies, according to court records.
She also had a handful of misdemeanor charges dropped, as well as the felony burglary tools possession charge.
She has also racked up nine separate vehicle offenses, including as recently as this summer.
In July, Thompson was hit with four citations in a single day, including driving 80 mph in a 55 zone and stopping her vehicle improperly on a highway.
The year before she was once again ticketed for going 80 in a 55, and got a summons for improper child restraint, for which she was later found guilty in absentia and fined $50.
That placid tranquil existence for the last five years, RENT FREE, in the Norfolk, VA home owned by her great-aunt was what? A hideaway from the law? It sure reads like it.
Let’s go back to that burden of proof that the NYT says is so problematic. I don’t think it’s high at all. Granted, I’m not a legal expert but when the mortgage documents explicitly state that the home will be James’s second home and NOT a rental property, but when her niece, Nakia Thompson of the 3-ring binder of felonies, testifies under oath that she’s never paid rent… it’s pretty easy to track if any rental payments have been made to any bank account Letitia has. And if she did report rental income to the IRS…
As Letitia has proclaimed many times… “No One Is Above The Law.” According to many in the media, Leticia should be the exception to that case.
In 2023 CNN fake journalist Laura Coates passionately explained why Trump's alleged mortgage fraud was not a victimless crime.

Now Coates is saying that Letitia James' little mistake didn't hurt anybody.

James is on record campaigning to “get Trump” on anything she can find. The problem is, what she found didn’t stick. Why? Because even the witnesses she chose testified that no financial harm or malfeasance was there.
This mortgage and rent fraud regarding James’ Norfolk home has a metric ton of red flags on it, and yes, harm is caused when the system is gamed and a person benefits financially.
The screaming hypocrisy of her to proclaim that this indictment is about weaponizing the law for revenge is one for the books. It’s truly a situation of pot slamming head-on into kettle here.
Especially given that it looks like her fraud issues go back at least 40 years!
Must Watch! You won't see this guy on CNN!

Letitia James must be held accountable. She will have her day in court and it will be highly interesting to hear how she’ll explain her mortgage fraud and enabling of a niece with a major felony record.
“No one is above the law” Tish. That includes you.
