nancy pelosi lies

it’s almost like a bad comedy — all the sweating and the stammering? yep, it’s a fun new video from the gop.

  • Dade says:

Pelosi’s miserable performance is yet more evidence that we need a full investigation and prosecutions of any and all, Democrats and Republicans, that had a role in authorizing illegal treatment of detainees.

  • Micky says:

Waterboarding wasnt illegal back then, drop it already.
But accusing the CIA of lying is illegal today.

  • Dade says:

Um…no. It is not illegal to accuse the CIA of lying. Good God! They lie every day. It’s part of the espionage business.

But it is a crime to lie to Congress, which is what Pelosi has accused the CIA of doing. Therefore, investigate! Let’s see what the truth is. Let’s see if there is any truth to the rumors about tactics much worse than waterboarding are true. Let’s see if the CIA waterboarded detainees to try to extract confessions about a link between al Qaeda and Saddam at the direction of Big Dick.

    Prosecute! Imprison!

  • MAS1916 says:

The more Pelosi insists that the CIA lied to her, the shorter her tenure as Speaker. Obama needs Pelosi to get His legislation passed. Her occupation with this scandal prevents her from executing that job. So… look for Team Obama to throw Pelosi under the bus. That at least will make for good telelvision.

“Um…no. It is not illegal to accuse the CIA of lying. Good God! They lie every day. It’s part of the espionage business.”

    HUH ?

If she as the speaker of the house has launched there allegations against the CIA its incumbent upon her to prove it. As the speaker of the house, and not just any layman, she cant go aroud saying things she cant prove.

“Let’s see if there is any truth to the rumors about tactics much worse than waterboarding are true. Let’s see if the CIA waterboarded detainees to try to extract confessions about a link between al Qaeda and Saddam at the direction of Big Dick.”

Once again, please refer to my previous post on this topic .

Hayden told the House Intelligence Committee that he officially prohibited CIA operatives from using waterboarding in 2006 in the wake of a Supreme Court decision and new laws on the treatment of U.S. detainees.”

He said the agency has not used waterboarding for “just a few weeks short” of five years.

“Though now legally questionable, Hayden said, waterboarding was legal in 2002 and 2003, a time when the technique was used to interrogate Al-Qaida detainees.”

    Got it Dade ?

    Prosecute! Imprison!

  • Dade says:

I agree that it is now incumbent upon everyone to get to the bottom of the matter. HOwever, it is not a crime to accuse the CIA of lying. You need to get your John Boehner talking points straight.

It is a crime to lie to Congress. So, Pelosi has (inadvertently and incompetently) accused the CIA of committing a crime. Now we need investigations into the matter.

Regarding waterboarding: let’s just go with your assumption that it was “not illegal” at the time. We can ignore the fallacious logic for now. Even assuming that, there is still the question as to whether or not Cheney and others had detainees waterboarded to try and extract confessions about a link between al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein. It has been established that there was no such link. Was Cheney trying to manufacture evidence to cover his lies in the lead up to the war?

I know this is all terribly complex for you, Micky, but you’re going to have to try and stay with me here. There is the possiblity that Cheney and crew were trying to cover up the false claims they made before the war.

Also this, there are unsubstantiated reports of techniques that are far worse than waterboarding being used on detainees. I won’t mention the exact nature of the techniques because it is unproven at this point. But an investigation would uncover the truth.

    Prosecute! Imprison!

  • Dade says:

I just had to point this out, too. Micky said:

If she as the speaker of the house has launched there allegations against the CIA its incumbent upon her to prove it. As the speaker of the house, and not just any layman, she cant go aroud saying things she cant prove.

    Now check these pre-war quotes:

Rummy: We know where [the WMD] are, they are in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north of that.

Cheney: We believe [Saddam] has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons.

Now, then…. Micky your newfound reverence for truth is admirable. But where were you when Rummy and Dick kicked out those whoppers? After all, the “can’t go around saying things they can’t prove.”

  • Micky says:

    Dade, you case is weak.
You say that the CIA is in the business of lying, they do it all the time.
As matter of course yes , thats their job. But not at congressional briefings>

If she is accusing them of lying to congress(which she plainly did) that is a totally different set of accusations other than just accusing them of doing their job.

As far as your Rummy example goes, thats lame also.
That was intelligence briught on by many institutions and countries other than the CIA and believed by mostly everyone in congress, I fail to see the connection.

Bush, Cheny, Rummy, were not accusing administrations whithin the fed government of lying.
Besides that, they have not stuck by it like Pelosi has and instead recanted and admitted the intelligence was flawed.

    YOU”RE WAAAY OFF BRO

  • Dade says:

Well, we agree then: a full investigation, wherever it leads.

As far as this goes: Besides that, [Bush, Cheney, Rummy] have not stuck by it like Pelosi has and instead recanted and admitted the intelligence was flawed.[/b]

Sure, they admitted the intelligence was flawed…. after they had already launched the invasion. But there’s no need to go through all this again. We’ve already done it a thousand times.

Bring on the investigations! Let’s see what shakes out.

  • kate says:

dade that’s an interesting comparison but not quite equal in that bush cheney and rummy were all basing their wmd info on the world’s best intel.

pelosi is just lying — flip flopping like a half-dead fish outta water — trying her best to come up with the best story that will stick. 😉

  • Jared says:

This is such a non-story except to you conservatives. If she is guilty, she should be investigated along with Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice and then she can go to jail with the rest of them.

If you think however that all of your blog rants will do any good, it won’t. She has been dutifully smacked by Barack via Leon Panetta for her moment of idiocy. But she has strong entrenched support in the democrat caucus. She isn’t going anywhere. Nice try though.

  • Micky says:

    Thank you kate.

Pelosi is simply pulling crap out of thin air that came from nowhere.
The CIA told everyone else the truth and specifically lied to her ?

The only investigation that needs to take place is that of Nancy Pelosi and her misrepresenting what happened at a security briefing and her allegation that the CIA intentionally mislead her.
There is no need to investigate what was legal at the time.
If she goes before anyone under oath and sticks to this crap she should be locked up for injecting nothing but sheer personal vendetta into national security issues.
Her motivation is one of plain ole hatred with no intended result other than to humiliate and tear down a good man and in the process tear down and slander the good men and women defending tjhis country that stand in the way of her agenda.
    Shes a dispicable POS.
GWB and crew had no such agenda other than to do whats right for the country. Their efforts were not focused on any American citizen but rather those that meant us harm or had harmed us.
And when it was discovered by Bush and co. that the intelligence was flawed we didnt see them go after the agencies and call them LIARS !!!

    get the difference ?

  • Micky says:

“This is such a non-story except to you conservatives. If she is guilty, she should be investigated along with Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice and then she can go to jail with the rest of them.”

Hey ! You guys opened up this can of worms over something that never was illegal at the time and now when the worms are crawling all over Nancy you say its not a story ?

    Thats funny.

  • Jane says:

    Issue subpoenas NOW!

  • Dade says:

    Micky says:

The only investigation that needs to take place is that of Nancy Pelosi and her misrepresenting what happened at a security briefing and her allegation that the CIA intentionally mislead her.

Uh-huh. That’s what I figured. You don’t wanna know the truth, do ya, Micky? The problem for you is that, once an investigation, any investigation, gets underway, there’s no telling where it might lead. Remember how an investigation into a real estate deal led to a president being impeached for allegedly lying about an extramarital affair?

Investigate! Prosecute! Imprison! If Pelosi gets swept up in it, so be it.

    Then, Micky says:
[Pelosi wanted to] tear down and slander the good men and women defending tjhis country that stand in the way of her agenda.

Let’s go back, for a second, to the summer of 2003. Remember a guy named Joe Wilson? He wrote an article entitled “What I didn’t find in Africa” that seemed to cast doubt on President Junior’s claim of an attempt by Saddam to buy yellowcake uranium from Nigeria. Shortly after Wilson’s article was published, someone in the White House revealed to the public that his wife, Valerie Plame, was a CIA operative.

Now, you tell me….wasn’t that slandering the good men and women defending this country that stood in the way of the Bush agenda?

    See, Micky: it’s called hypocrisy.

  • lisab says:

    Dade,

have you considered that under obama the us troops are not taking prisoners anymore? they are being turned over to the iraqis and afghans because we no longer want the hassle.

the problem is, the afghans are known to violate human rights, (the iraqis have a better reputation but still … i would not want to be an iraqi prisoner.)

it is however illegal to turn prisoners over to people who might torture them. obama is c in c, and is responsible. open this pandoras box and you guarantee obama will be impeached and tried as a war criminal.

  • Dade says:

Bring on the investigations! Anyone who broke the law should be prosecuted and imprisoned.

This is not a partisan thing. It’s about who we are as a people.

  • Micky says:

“Uh-huh. That’s what I figured. You don’t wanna know the truth, do ya, Micky”

Well, it looks mlike most of the truth is out already and Pelosi is simply doing her best to avoid the consequences of it.

    1) The truth is that waterboarding was not illegal during 2001-02-03, the time period in which she is claiming crimes took place. So theres really no case against the Bush administration for her to prosecute. IS THERE ?

    2) The common belief among both parties is that shes lying and that the CIA did not lie only to her and tell the truth to everyone else.

    3) So far the notes pertaining to the briefing that Panetta has refered to do in fact show Pelosi to be lying. Not to mention that he must of gotten an okay from Obama to go ahead with his refutal to Pelosi
The truth is not in her favor, you guys wanted this, now you’ve got it, not the way you wanted it to go ? Is it ? Too bad.

If the truth were that torture was illegal and someone did in fact torture for actionable intel I would buy them dinner. But if someone lies about that man retrieving the intel and says hes lying only so they can take down innocent people and save their own a$$ from a previous lie…lock em up.

As far as the yellow cake thing goes, Bush did not call the CIAs findings a lie in front of the whole country in a press conference dedoicated to that subject alone.
Also it seems at that time the left was perfectly comfortable with the CIAs findings as long as it suit their agenda ? I didnt here anyone calling them liars then, did you ?

By the way, Valerie was not a covert operative as the left tried so hard to make her out to be. She walked in the front door of the CIA in broad daylight every day.
her employment at the CIA was no secret, she was pretty much a desk jockey and its known that much of the Washington cocktail circuit knew that already. besides that, Novak never really could of known if she was covert, that it was true.
The only crime is if you “KNOWINGLY” out an operative. And besides that, she wasnt a covert operative.
Til today most people see it as much ado about nothing.
    Nice try though.

“This is not a partisan thing.”

    BS.
Try and tell that to Obama and the geniuses who thoiught outting the memos was a good idea.
What purpose would it of served ? Waterboarding has not been used in the last 5-6 years and was legal during the years in question so what was the point ?
All of a sudden when he mentioned he would release the photos we saw everyone on the hill go “whoa whoa whoa, wait a minutre ! what the hell is wrong with you ?”
A lot of us were okay with what you are now saying was a crime !
Was the Obama administration actually going to try and go back, retroactively prosecute people according to todays laws ? Well excuse me but thats sure as hell what it looked like Obama wanted to do. If thats not a partisan attack then I dont know what the hell is. The only problem is that soem so filled with hate like Pelosi just couldnt quit while they were ahead. Everyone else but her pretty much backed off and look where shes at now ?

She is the only one that should really be prosecuted for her blatent attempt to prosecute those who have done nothing wrong and for lying in order to try and make that happen.

Its all partisan baby, ALL DAY LONG !!!

  • lisab says:

yeah well i do not think the democrats want to impeach themselves … and certainly not obama.

do you think obama will admit that he is turning over prisoners to the afghans when he knows that they will be abused?

in your wildest imagination do you actually think obama, pelosi, reid and other congressional leaders will start an investigation that impeaches themselves?

  • Micky says:

Remember how an investigation into a real estate deal led to a president being impeached for allegedly lying about an extramarital affair?

Yes, but the conviction was over contempt, nothing else.
if Pelosi spews this crap under oath the same should happen to her.

Also, in Pelosis case these are national security issues, not hummers under the desk, which I could really care less about, unless its my desk.

  • Micky says:

You’ve got a good point Lisab in that I’ve noticed no one really wants to talk about Obama keeping yet another Bush security policy.

    Renditions.

Obama faces the same problem in releasing the detainees into these countries that if anything should happen to them at the hands of that government will he be held responsible ?

  • Rope says:

Between the big o releasing memos, pelosi lying, and biden telling the world all our secerts, we’re screwed.

And you people thought President Bush was stupid.

Great clip Kate, I haven’t heard that much stuttering since the big o’s trip to france.

  • lisab says:

    micky,

it is even worse than renditions. the us troops do not want to take prisoners anymore.

they never even make it to the states or gitmo … straight to the afghan detention centers to get beat up

  • lisab says:

    or worse

  • Ted says:

Pelosi- “Let me be perfectly clear… I unequivocally deny all assertations that I was in favor of not opposing those who advocate the support of some who adamantly assert that I may or may not have been briefed about things that I distinctly don’t remember supporting, however…..”

Yeah, I made it up, but what she said isn’t that far off.

Oh, and save this “this is not a partisan thing” for some blog where people are stupid enough to believe your lies.

I’ve found that most libs have no concept of “political capital” and how it must be used sparingly. The Dems didn’t do any investigations during the last 2 years when they controlled Congress because they know there’s no “there” there. Dear Leader isn’t going to spend political capital on something as insignificant as this when there’s bigger fish to fry, namely the economy and his desire to change the infrastructure (energy, transportation, etc…). The only one’s who want it aren’t worth consideration since Dear Leader knows in 4 years these sheep will vote for him anyway.

  • Ken says:

Dade, don’t forget these whopper quotes:

“If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow by the knowledge that they can act with impunity, even in the face of a clear message from the United Nations Security Council and clear evidence of a weapons of mass destruction program.”

    President Clinton
Address to Joint Chiefs of Staff and Pentagon staff
    February 17, 1998

So I guess Clinton was lying, right?

    Here’s more:

“Together, we must confront the new hazards of chemical and biological weapons and the outlaw states, terrorists, and organized criminals seeking to acquire them. Saddam Hussein has spent the better part of this decade and much of his nation’s wealth not on providing for the Iraqi people but on developing nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them.”

    President Clinton
    State of the Union address
    January 27, 1998

“People can quarrel with whether we should have more troops in Afghanistan or internationalize Iraq or whatever, but it is incontestable that on the day I left office, there were unaccounted for stocks of biological and chemical weapons.”

    Former President Clinton
During an interview on CNN’s “Larry King Live”
    July 22, 2003

Plenty more where that came from, but I think you get the idea.
