Minnesota is riddled with fraud. To date there are 28 cases of welfare fraud going through the court systems. Now we find that money has been sent to Somalia and is likely funding a major terror group. That’s just swell.

Minnesota is drowning in fraud. Billions in taxpayer dollars have been stolen during the administration of Gov. Tim Walz alone. Democratic state officials, overseeing one of the most generous welfare regimes in the country, are asleep at the switch. And the media, duty-bound by progressive pieties, refuse to connect the dots.

In many cases, the fraud has allegedly been perpetrated by members of Minnesota’s sizeable Somali community. Federal counterterrorism sources confirm that millions of dollars in stolen funds have been sent back to Somalia, where they ultimately landed in the hands of the al Qaeda-linked terrorist group al-Shabab.

As one confidential source put it: “The largest funder of al-Shabab is the Minnesota taxpayer.”

People have been following the money, and what we are finding out is that millions and likely billions of taxpayer dollars has been funneled into the hands of those who do NOT need it, and funneled out of the country to Somalia. 

As I’ve pointed out before, Powerline blog has been following the Feeding Our Future fraud cases. To date there have been 56 people indicted and found guilty of massive fraud to the tune of millions. For example, this year alone payouts for Minnesota’s Medicaid Housing program totaled $61 million in just the first six months.

Now we find out that it wasn’t just scamming food programs for the needy, it was autism programs. False cases of autistic children went on to the books to the tune of nearly $2000 a month or more to that supposedly needy family. Except the autism diagnoses were…FAKE. 

The accused is a woman named Asha Farhan Hassan, a member of Minnesota’s Somali community, who has also been charged in the Feeding Our Future scam. She’s alleged to have played a role in a $14 million fraud scheme perpetrated against Minnesota’s Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention program.

Hassan and her co-conspirators “approached parents in the Somali community” and recruited their children into autism therapy services. It didn’t matter, prosecutors suggested, if a child did not have an autism diagnosis: Hassan would facilitate a fraudulent one.

Much like with the HSS program, autism claims to Medicaid in Minnesota have skyrocketed in recent years—from $3 million in 2018 to $54 million in 2019, $77 million in 2020, $183 million 2021, $279 million in 2022, and $399 million in 2023. Meantime, the number of autism providers in the state spiked from 41 to 328 over the same period, with many in the Somali community establishing their own autism treatment centers, citing the need for “culturally appropriate programming.” By the time the fraud scheme was exposed, one in 16 Somali four-year-olds in the state had reportedly been diagnosed with autism—a rate more than triple the state average.

And, what is the reaction of the media and politicians in Minnesota? Ignore the fraud. Pretend there’s nothing to see here, move along. 

Until that is, when President Trump finally caught wind of the massive scale of fraud and has, rightfully so, revoked their TPS status. 

Which is kind of closing the barn door after all the horses got out. HOWEVER, because all this fraud was buried and ignored, very few people in D.C. let alone the White House knew of the issues of our tax dollars funding fraud and terrorist groups.

Meanwhile, Ilhan Omar is spending time getting pissed off that Omar Fateh didn’t get elected mayor while hoping that everyone will ignore the fraud conviction of one of her direct associates and not connect the dots.

Yes, wild indeed. 

Even wilder is the sheer scope of the fraud that continues to be uncovered. With it, some very troublesome links to Somali terror groups. 

According to reports, an estimated 40% of households in Somalia get money transfers from abroad. In 2023 alone, the Somali diaspora sent back $1.7 billion — more than the Somali government’s budget for that year.

Our investigation reveals, for the first time, that some of this money has been directed to an even more troubling destination: the Islamic terrorist group al-Shabab.

“This is a third-rail conversation, but the largest funder of al-Shabab is the Minnesota taxpayer,” the third source said. “There is an issue here that is real, and if there is ever an event that is traceable back to these funds, or to people from this area, then this situation will take on a whole new set of optics.”

Those aren’t the only programs riddled with fraud. Minnesota’s SNAP program is as well. Yet what does Tim Walz do?

So let me get this straight… Tim Walz declares it “Fraud Awareness and Prevention Week,” and he’s not even in the country when a story breaks that Minnesotans are funding Al Shabaab through Medicaid fraud?
