Rumors are starting up about Michelle Obama potentially running for President. I said this a long time ago, but people poo-pooed me on that idea back then, saying that Michelle had no desire to be in politics because she was making too much good money on her own in that terrible, awful capitalistic system of America.
Except here we are with decrepit old man Biden and silly Kamala, and it seems that even the state media are now questioning this Biden/Harris re-election campaign. So who would replace Biden? Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.? I think not. There are too many Republicans who like RFK JR. So he’s out for the Democrats.
The Spectator published an article late last night laying out the case for Michelle Obama taking a stab at the 2024 presidential bid. When will they dump Biden? How will they get rid of Kamala?
If Michelle Obama announced she is running for president, any resentment among black voters about Harris’ treatment would evaporate. While some may think this is farfetched, a Michelle Obama candidacy makes sense for many reasons. Michelle is very popular with the Democrats’ base and is far more popular than Kamala. Michelle has recently raised her profile, speaking out on issues important to the Dems’ base. This is a striking shift from the low-profile Michelle has kept since she and Barack left the White House.
The Spectator article lists a few of Michelle’s recent activities, such as founding “When We All Vote,” a voting registration campaign she is heading up (just like Obama did when he ran). Some of the items listed in the article I certainly would not chalk up to high-profile activities, like when Michelle joined Bruce Springsteen on stage to play the tambourine? I reckon some folk eat that sort of thing up.
Here is more of what the Spectator lists as high-profile activities:
In February Michelle launched her podcast based on “Light We Carry” and went on a 50-city tour promoting it.
Also in April, Michelle appeared on a Tonight show skit, and took the opportunity to take a jab at Donald Trump.
In May Michelle co-founded PLEZi Nutrition, an enterprise that she said will “jumpstart what I hope will be a race to the top that will transform the entire food industry.”
On June 1, Walmart announced a new line of clothing, “You Can Shop This Michelle Obama — Approved Designer’s Activewear at Walmart.”
At the end of June, Michele forcefully denounced the Supreme Court’s decision on affirmative action.
And on July 12, it was announced with great fanfare that she scored an Emmy nomination.
The video below is a year old, but it lays out other comparisons of how Michelle is behaving lately against how her husband did on his run-up to his announcement.
Of course, we also have the Obamas with their Higher Ground Productions working with Netflix and being nominated for Emmys and such, right up there with David Letterman and Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s interview.

It would be interesting, to say the least, or terrifying if the Democrats actually did prop up Michelle as their choice, depending on how you look at it. I choose terrifying. Whenever I think it can’t get any worse, it typically always does. These last 3 plus years have been a doozy and have opened my eyes to more than I would have liked.
Having Michelle Obama in the White House would, sure enough, make Joe Biden seem like a wispy old grandpa of SEVEN grandchildren. But in the end, it doesn’t matter who the Democrats exalt as their glory god; it will not be good no matter who it is.

Ummm, you realize this is a supposedly conservative publication, right? This isn’t Salon or Vogue stumping for her. This is a conservative doing the same thing you were doing: discussing why it might make sense for the party to do this. This is NOT vindication of your speculation.
Michelle is very popular with the Democrats’ base and is far more popular than Kamala.
I think that popularity is almost entirely the penumbra of the Light-bringer. And being more popular than Kamala (except among the horny governor set) is a really low bar to clear. By that standard, they could nominate Chris Christie.

Which is entirely grift related to her podcasts. Which are entirely grift.
Maybe I’d consider that sort of thing if she started talking on those podcasts about “What I would do differently” or some such.
Also, with absolutely NO political career to speak of and no actual success in life (other than being married to a successful grifter), she has nothing to bring to the table but her color and what’s supposedly between her legs. That’s gonna require a LOT more manufactured votes than even Biden did. And the media needs time to start singing her praises – she is behind Newsome on that front. I don’t see it happening. I still say she’s too lazy to campaign for President – grift is much easier.
(Also, we need a Constitutional amendment that restricts any 1-step-away relative (child, spouse, sibling, parent) from running for President. We can put it in the same amendment as the term limits for Congress.)
bbob says: The article stated that Michelle was making too much money in private sector to consider running. Look at the money that Ole Joe is hauling in for Hunter and family. Why work for money in the private sector when you can just take bribes and make 10X more.
GWB says: Well, Michelle’s money-making is almost entirely grift. She’s not getting paid for her hard work as CEO, but for her name. So, basically, easier than a bribe. (People expect action for a bribe.)

Michelle Obama is no Hillary Clinton, and throwing around terms like harridan or harpy are non-starters. She’s bright and has a global appeal – her 2018 book was a spectacular success compared to anything HRC produced. Argue with those as you wish, but they are facts.
We have been given incredibly bad choices in Biden and in Trump. Michelle Obama would energize the Democrats and solve the Biden problem they are increasingly realizing they must face. She would walk over Mr. Trump, I believe, and in so doing divide the nation even further. We need someone better than Mr. Trump. The list of reasons is long, but the largest is that he is held in sheer disgust by such a large fraction of the population – and not because they take umbrage at his policies, but at him. Rs and Ds can do so much better.
