Thomas Massie, the congressman from Kentucky, is digging in his heels, saying he won’t vote for Mike Johnson to be the speaker. Given that Donald Trump won Kentucky and Massie was elected to represent the will of the people there, why is he balking on this?
The Kentucky Republican has openly voiced his opposition to Johnson’s Speakership bid in recent weeks, arguing the top House Republican is not up to the job and would eventually cost the party its razor-thin majority if he keeps the gavel.
“[We] want a Speaker who inspires the public and who can make our case in the media, so we can keep the majority for the second half of Trump’s term,” Massie previously wrote on the social platform X. – The Hill
I hear you, Mr. Massie. I really do. Keeping the majority for the second half of Trump’s term is crucial, but that’s exactly why you should vote for Johnson. And I’ll admit, I haven’t been his biggest fan either, especially after he tried to get the last round of continuing resolution voted through before X exposed it all.
And this is ridiculous:
I conducted this poll just one week ago. Nearly everyone knows from his 18 month history of betraying Republicans and teaming with Democrats that Johnson isn’t the right guy. If he fails on the first round today, a better Speaker can be elected in a few hours or over the weekend. pic.twitter.com/7zadRet0P3

Really Thomas? You let Grok on X do a poll for your information? I thought you were better than that.
Trump wants Johnson. Yes, Johnson has shown himself to be iffy, but we need to coalesce in this right now so that Donald Trump can be sworn in on January 20th, 2025, and start work.
Massie can do his job and keep Johnson accountable at the same time.
Congress can’t certify the election results without a Speaker of the House. Why? Without a Speaker, it’s like trying to throw a party without a host—nothing’s gonna happen. The first point of business for the 119th Congress is to certify the election, and we can’t do that without a Speaker. Right?
Other potential holdouts are:
GOP Reps. Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Tim Burchett (Tenn.), Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Eric Burlison (Mo.), Ralph Norman (S.C.), Scott Perry (Pa.), Andy Harris (Md.), Roy and others — some of whom Johnson met with Thursday. Another wild card is Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.), who said she will decide whom to back during the vote. – The Hill
So, while we might be able to handle one holdout, we can’t afford a whole bunch. Even one holdout can be nerve-wracking.
Come on, Massie—heck, even Marjorie Taylor Greene‘s on board with Johnson now (at least for this vote)!
With Elon and Vivek holding people accountable on X, it’s much easier to monitor Mike’s negotiation of this whole thing. Knowing there’s at least some transparency in this gives me peace of mind. And to be clear, DOGE putting out information on X is not the same as running a poll via Grok.
Grok is an AI chatbot on X that’s designed to interact with users in a witty and rebellious way.
Get your ego in check, Mr. Massie, and vote yes for Mike Johnson. This isn’t just about one person—it’s an affirmative vote for Donald Trump and for your team to get to work on what the American people actually want.
This one time, we can’t afford to be stubborn.

The MAGAverse is always on the lookout for nevertrumpers but seems to have missed the biggest one in Congress. Massie wants to sabotage Trump and his agenda. Massie is a RINO who votes with the Squad on Middle East issues. The Republican Caucus should play hardball. It’s Johnson or Jeffries. Take it or leave it. Anybody who votes against Mike Johnson should be stripped of committee assignments and expelled from the Caucus.
