If you believe being shut out of social media because Wrong Think™ puts an unnecessary crimp on communicating with friends and family, try figuring out how to go about your daily life without a bank account.

Nigel Farage’s bank accounts were closed down after Coutts decided that his views “do not align with our values”, documents obtained by the former Ukip leader show.

A reputational risk committee “exited” Mr Farage after considering a dossier detailing his comments about Brexit, his friendship with Donald Trump and his views on LGBT rights among many reasons he was not “compatible with Coutts”.

Whatever your opinion about Farage’s political views, you should be alarmed at the escalation of major corporations engaging in social punishment of individuals for political reasons. Nigel Farage hasn’t engaged in criminal activity or run afoul of the financial terms of maintaining accounts with this bank.

But it appears the ideological capture of UK’s financial operations has been thorough enough that punishing people, both well-known or not, for expressing the latest forbidden opinions isn’t a one-off.

Mr Farage writes that the (40-page) dossier “reads rather like a pre-trial brief drawn up by the prosecution in a case against a career criminal. Monthly press checks were made on me. My social media accounts were monitored. Anything considered ‘problematic’ was recorded. I was being watched”.

He is not the only Right-wing figure to have been denied banking facilities. Tory peers have disclosed that their children have been told they cannot have an account after banks made reference to their parentage, and dozens of other people have had accounts closed without explanation.

And it’s not just about people-with-problematic-friends like Nigel Farage. What would you say to your son or daughter who has their bank kick them to the curb because your speech ran afoul of the Misinformation Czar?

Mr Farage now says he cannot get an account with any other bank, having been turned down by 10 banks since Coutts withdrew its services. Members of his family have also been refused accounts by other banks, and one family member was told their account was being closed.

Because you’re whistling past the graveyard if you believe it won’t come to this Communist China-style social credit system here. We’ve already seen Paypal pull this stunt — and they won’t just shut you down, they’ll take up to $2500 from you for your heterodoxy.

In Canada last year we watched as Justin Trudeau donned his Mao jacket and forced that nation’s financial institutions to shut down the bank accounts of anyone contributing to the truckers’ Freedom Convoy protest. Hard to keep a protest going when you have no access to your own money for food or gas.

Obama’s Operation Chokepoint browbeat financial institutions into canceling the accounts of legal businesses the Left doesn’t like. Now we see these institutions go fully-functional Death Star against deporables all on their own.

Having lived my life in earthquake country, part of our emergency kits are to include, not just extra prescription medications to get you through a couple of weeks with no access to a pharmacy, but cash in order to purchase goods when electronic banking is not available.

Yet, here we are when Our Maoling Betters in the Ruling Class want to first ban cash then hold you as a political hostage to your bank.

You will own nothing and be happy.
