From the Sunday files of “OY”, here’s a story of a lady basketball coach by the name of Dawn Staley.
Now, I haven’t really followed the Final Four since the University of Arizona’s mens’ win in 1997 win under coach Lute Olson. Sure, there was debachery leading up to and after their victory. Sure, there was craziness and people acting like idiots post victory. Lute was not one of them. But we live in different times and idiocy is an epidemic.
Ms. Staley is head coach for the South Carolina women’s team, the Gamecocks. Now, I will stay away from any immature references to the team’s name at this point although, after hearing this, it might be hard for some readers to do the same.
The conversation went something like this. Staley was asked by a reporter about trans participation in women’s sports. To which she answered:
…if you’re a woman, you should play”-Dawn Staley
Okay…? More clarification:
…if you consider yourself a woman … you should be able to play.”-Dawn Staley
She was forced to provide the wrong answer, because she was afraid of being fired

True. Could not conduct press conferences swimming (AHEM, Lia Thomas) in Louis Vuitton if Ms. Staley were to say the wrong thing such as “no boys allowed”.
Regardless of Ms. Staley’s calculated (?) comment, it was a dumb question. And why is this “journalist” asking this dumb question?
“One of the major issues facing women’s sports right now”
No, Dan. It’s not.

Dawn Staley is being hailed as “brave” for saying that she did not care about naysayers flooding her social media during a busy time when she and her team of all women (for now) have a job to do against Iowa. “Journalist”, Dan Zaksheske, is also being hailed by his colleagues as “stunning and brave” for asking this question. Real “journalism” at its finest.

The irony of a biological man asking this question.
Say, Coach. I know you have all women on your team but, can guys play, too?
Courageous man, this “journalist” is:

Nope. Courage is about going against what the rest of the mob is murmuring. Dan Zaksheske is in a group of like-minded individuals who all think the SAME. They vote the same. They support the same ideology. They all follow the same narrative. They do this because if they didn’t, they, too, will be fired and blacklisted. At least he exercised fairness and unbiased “journalism” by asking Iowa’s coach, Lisa Bluder, the same question:
Iowa coach Lisa Bluder declined to answer whether or not transgender women, biological men, should be allowed to play in women’s sports.
“My focus is on tomorrow’s game.” She added that it’s an “important issue” but an important issue for “another time.” pic.twitter.com/fSySUZK9XA

Amen, Lisa. Amen. Focus on the game because the rest is just BS.
In truth, this issue that Dan thinks is “important” should have never happened. Lia(r) Thomas should have never been allowed to compete with biological women, much less win a championship and the title of 2022 NCAA “Woman” of the year.
Honestly, this “hard-hitting” question is a frivolous and small-minded “journalistic” question. Why not focus on the actual players of the game as opposed to the future of biological men who may want to play on a woman’s college basketball team because they suck and can’t take the heat on the men’s side? Focus on these women and their achievements. Celebrate these women. I am sure some of them had a hard road to get where they are today. Why are we discounting their collective experiences and personal experiences and stories for this frivolity? For MEN impersonating themselves as true WOMEN?
This is a time to celebrate the women of Iowa State and South Carolina. But instead, journos gonna jouro, throwing the question about trans athletes because we could not go a whole week without something being about the trans community. Trans Day of Visibility on Easter Sunday declared by Joe Biden was not enough. Every freaking day, every freaking event, every freaking moment, needs to be about them.
While Dan Z. is an absolute nincompoop who asked an absolute nincompoop question instead of something actually meaningful, we cannot turn our attention away from the contrast of Dawn Staley and Lisa Bluder and their responses to this question. Lisa shut it down. Dawn was a coward. Dawn said, “If you feel like a lady, you should play like a lady.” $3.1 million a year to coach hoops is a lot to lose out on, Dawn.
We do know that it’s about the feels these days. If you feel like a boy, you should use the boys’ locker room and pee standing up. If you feel like a girl, you are a girl and can menstruate and have babies. If you feel like a cat, you should enter a cat show. Should we be looking for some new team members on the roster of the Game(chuckle)cocks next year?
Phew. This lady feels like one of Dar’s Sunday Morning Cafe Cocktails.
