Kirsten Dunst: Wow, middle America is just, like, so poor and stuff

In a new interview with Allure magazine, actress Kirsten Dunst (Spiderman, Bring It On) explained how she had an “eye-opening” tour of middle America, making stops in New Orleans, Nashville, and the Grand Canyon. And jeez, it was just, like, so poor and empty compared to the east and west coasts!

“After we were done, I was like, ‘Wow, America is so poor,'” she tells the magazine. “Just the towns you come across — all that’s there are restaurants and gas stations. There are beautiful stretches of pasture, but for the most part, people live simply. The East and West Coast are so different from the rest of America.”

Yeah, small town America is just terrible. Of course, by “east coast” she probably means Manhattan, and by “west coast” she probably means LA. So yeah, I guess comparatively speaking there’s nowhere near as much. And boy, is it a tough life without having a rehab facility on every corner and celebrities to have one night stands with every weekend. I don’t even know how I make it in a town with just restaurants and gas stations. Us poor, unintelligent hicks living in America sure have it tough without our personal shoppers and pet therapists, huh?

See, this is exactly why I hate narcissistic celebrities. I wonder, how long does it take for a celebrity to forget where they came from? Most of them come from humble, middle American upbringings. How long does it take for the average celebrity to completely piss all over that and start thinking that their decadent, spoiled celebrity lifestyle is the only way to live?

Well, reality is a lot different. The life that Dunst and her fellow celebs are living isn’t real life. It’s just a game, a fantasy. Middle America? That’s real life.

Well I like living in “Flyover” Country!
    Poor?
    Not hardly.
Silly little actresses? Shallow and poor!!

I read about her comments too. She’s right about one thing: we all basically live simple lives here in the real world.

How could she possibly know about such things? It’s not like she’s ever had to play a common person or anything. She just kind of missed the big part of the US.

I just went to Kirsten Dunsts’ IMDB page, and gotta jump to her defence here. She’s been working since the age of seven. She’s never seen real life or associated with normal people.

I’m an Insurance adjuster. I work the tornadoes, and hurricanes. They tend to occur in rural America. So I have seen the country.
I grew up in LA, so I have seen the big city.
What this poor woman is suffering from is information withdrawal. Being bombarded with lights, people, city noise, traffic, sycophants, and hangers on this woman cannot bear to look at stuff that has no concrete, neon, or sodium halide glow. The shock of seeing trees that have the gall to grow where they please, or a reasonably flat patch of ground that curiously has no building on it has left her bereft of familiar input, and suspicious of the difference.
This is a classic case of people unable to bear silence.
She is probably never alone except for in the bathroom.
Nature has a way of making us feel insignificant (tip: we are) and movie stars avoid this feeling like pernicious anemia.

Don’t be so dismissive, this could be the beginning of wisdom. And as Fozzy says, she really hasn’t lived what one would consider a “normal” life, given that she started modelling and doing commercials (70) when she was 3.

She just needs to understand that poor is relative.
