Texas AG Ken Paxton wants to be a U.S. Senator but does he want it enough to shake every hand in Texas and do the hard work? Everyone who reads Victory Girls knows that I was not a fan of Paxton. I was really not a fan of Spineless RINO John Cornyn either. Paxton won the runoff against Cornyn and here we are. I was initially meh about this race because James Talarico is so Cuckoo For Cocoa Puffs. It’s August 1, 2026 and polls are a little worrying. We need Paxton to do the work.
I really hate polls. Hate is a strong word and I mean HATE. The way a question is worded or the tone of voice of the pollster can greatly affect outcomes. Republicans are pollster-shy and won’t talk to them. It was interesting, though, when Mediaite published this:
A new Fox News poll released Thursday suggests Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico is making inroads with Republican voters, with 24% of non-MAGA Republicans saying they support him over Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Paxton’s candidacy, despite winning an endorsement from President Donald Trump over longtime incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), has been scandal-ridden, with questions about alleged voter fraud, lavish vacations with what some call his “mistress,” his office’s plea deal with child sex predator Adam Hoffman, and more.
The poll, which shows Talarico leading Paxton 51 to 48%, randomly sampled 1,006 Texas registered voters, with a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.
The combatants could be even. Paxton could be up by as much as six points. Then, there’s money. Another Mediaite article has this nugget:
On Thursday, Puck published a report revealing that Trump intended to unleash more than $400 million of MAGA Inc.’s “cash hoard” to help some of his candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. Some of that cash, the report stated, will go to Paxton. At the time of writing, many polls showed he and Talarico within just a couple points of one another.
A “cash hoard” is lovely. Cash is the lifeblood of politics but the beating heart is “turnout”. You have to have voter enthusiasm to have turnout. Generally, turnout means hard work. Such as the way Ted Cruz defeated Beto O’Rourke. It took a great GOP organization and epic rural turnout.
Talarico is polling better vs. Paxton than Beto O'Rourke (D) ever did in his close 2018 defeat vs. Sen. Ted Cruz (R). #TXSen
From April through July 2018, Cruz led every poll vs O'Rourke. But Paxton has only led in 3 of 12 surveys conducted in the same period of 2026. pic.twitter.com/ObU3H0Hso0

Ken Paxton doesn’t have the seat as the Junior Senator from Texas…yet. God, please let Paxton win.
Two days ago, James Talarico was on MSNow with Lawrence O’Donnell, my eyes rolled so hard just writing that. Here is the video:
Talarico is slimier than O’Donnell and Paxton. The write up from Yahoo:
LAWRENCE O’DONNELL, HOST: In Texas, a new poll shows Democratic nominee for Senate James Talarico leading Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton by five points, 45 to 40. That poll is still within the margin of error, and it is the largest lead James Talarico has had in any public general election poll. Today the campaigns announced they have agreed to debate three times this fall after James Talarico challenged Ken Paxton to a series of debates.
Last night, James Talarico made his case to voters in Lockhart, Texas.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
STATE REP. JAMES TALARICO (D-TX), U.S. SENATE CANDIDATE: We have an affordability crisis because we have a corruption crisis. We don’t have a government of, by, and for the people. Things would be different if we did. We have a government of, by, and for the billionaires. The system is working exactly as it was intended to work.
There is something broken in America. This is not just a political battle. This is a spiritual battle between selfishness and service, between greed and greatness, real greatness. I think after decades of this corruption, we are on the cusp of returning to those old-fashioned values, the values of my great-grandfather, the values of the icGeneration, service, sacrifice, doing what’s right even when no one is watching.
Ken Paxton has been selling us out for years, for decades, and he’s gotten away with it. They’ve all gotten away with it. But that ends this year in this state, in this race.
The clip goes on for another five minutes. Haven’t you seen enough of “six gender Talarico”? But! He was campaigning in Lockhart, Texas.
Meanwhile, for weeks I have seen social media posts wondering where Ken Paxton was and when he would start campaigning.
On that subject, here is Mediaite with some advice from Meghan McCain to Paxton:
For a start – it would be great if Ken Paxton would stop traveling to Europe with his alleged mistress and the photos of them together weren’t blasted all over The Daily Mail for the entire world to see.
McCain was referring to Paxton’s latest scandal just a few weeks earlier. On July 7, Daily Mail published photos of Paxton spending time in London with Christian influencer Tracy Duhon on the Fourth of July. Those photos came after Daily Mail reported the two were spotted in Iceland for a “romantic getaway.” The two of them have allegedly been “romantically involved” since 2024.
While this was going on, Paxton was still in the middle of a messy divorce trial with his wife, State Sen. Angela Paxton. She’s previously accused him of cheating on her.
Don’t care at all.
♀️Reports and videos circulating online appear to show Texas Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton in London over the Fourth of July holiday with Christian author and influencer Tracy Duhon. The trip follows earlier reports linking the two and comes after Angela… pic.twitter.com/avEqHZmeBC

Again. Don’t care at all. However, Ken Paxton can’t win if he doesn’t get to campaign events and shake the hands. Please. Do it now.
