Six years ago, JK Rowling wrote her first essay on women’s rights and how the trans activist community was usurping them. To hear the perpetually-complaining tell it, the essay was a hateful screed that threatened the very existence of trans people, because apparently, JK Rowling possesses the godlike power of speaking atrocities into being with her written word. I disagree with a lot of Rowling’s political opinions; she couldn’t even get through her first essay without hating on DJT. But I didn’t find it hateful (toward anyone but him) at all. She just published “An Update to my Essay of June 2020“ and it’s just as non-hateful as her first one.
Her first essay provided a timeline of how all this negative attention on her came about. It began with an accident:
She also outlined five reasons the new trans movement scared her:
1) She runs trusts that benefit battered women and girls and knows how difficult it is for such women to be in the vicinity of males during their most vulnerable times, even males dressed like women.
2) As an ex-educator, she has lots of concerns about this movement’s effect on both educating and safeguarding children.
She’s preaching to the choir on this one; as someone who’s been involved in the recent fight in my home state of Alabama to remove inappropriate material, including radical gender ideology, from the kids section of our public libraries, I’ve seen how hard these activists fight to keep things in front of kids that kids have no business being taught.
3) She’s an advocate of free speech and an author who’s been the victim of book-banning campaigns (the REAL kind, not a plea from parents to move sexual material out of the kids section of schools and libraries, which most liberals REFER to as a book ban).
4) The explosion of young girls seeking to transition, when historically the vast majority have been boys. Rowling, as someone who learned to hate her own female body after experiencing abuse, can see this for what it probably is: an often-irreversible decision made in desperation when other therapies would be more effective.
5) How violent and threatening this movement has become to females. I don’t think anyone who’s ever visited social media can doubt this one. Just ask Nancy Mace.
HORRIFIC – Trans Activist Threatens To Kill Nancy Mace!
Shocking video uploaded by a trans activist hoping they can kill Rep. Nancy Mace in a bathroom due to her support of a bill restricting restroom usage to an individual’s biological sex!
This violent and blustering rhetoric from the Left towards Conservatives has to STOP!

The new essay is much shorter and outlines how Rowling’s involvement in this issue has gone from theoretical to more practical in the six years since she first wrote about it, as well as expounding on the unhinged threats her efforts continue to receive from the “we just want to exist” activist crowd. She’s started several different funds aimed at helping women who have been harmed by the radical transgender movement, as well as a female-only shelter for physically and sexually abused women and girls, the only one in her area that doesn’t admit or employ biological males. The fact that the need for this even has to be explained leads me to believe that I might have actually died at some point without realizing it and this is some kind of purgatory I’m currently inhabiting.
And of course the reaction of the “we just want to exist” crowd has been to bury the hatchet and throw their support behind Rowling’s shelter, because women who have been so badly hurt they no longer trust males of any sort ALSO need rescue.
JUST KIDDING! Rowling writes in her essay that, not only did the harassment and threats of bodily harm kick up a huge notch, there was a coordinated campaign to keep the shelter’s phone lines tied up so women in danger would be unable to reach them. Now that is a special kind of scummy!
And that’s really where Rowling is coming from. I get it because it’s the same place I’M coming from. The people who believe that there should be limits placed on ANYONE’S influence, even trans people, are a pretty diverse group. Some of us believe that transitioning is called for in a very limited number of cases, and some of us believe it never is and everyone who does it will live to regret it. ALL of us, though, want trans adults to be safe and happy, and to be able to be treated in whichever way they and their doctors agree is best.
But there are biological reasons that our legal system has set up special protections and special spaces for women, and no amount of surgery or hormones can ever fully erase them.
