Jeb Bush is campaigning and is talking about Hillary Clinton’s failures as secretary of state. The Associated Press reports:
In his New Hampshire debut as an official candidate, Bush commended Clinton as tough and smart Tuesday but labelled her record as secretary of state “a complete failure” and said she didn’t accomplish much as a New York senator before that.
As a presidential candidate, Clinton has run a cloistered operation with limited opportunities to face questions from the press, he said. “It’s ridiculous.”
While all this is true, there is one small problem: Jeb Bush gave Mrs. Clinton the National Constitution Center’s Liberty Medal for her dedication to public service and human rights about a year ago:
It seems to me that if as we all know (the Smith, Woods, Doherty and Stevens families certainly do) Hillary was an absolute failure in this role then giving her a medal for her dedication to public service is inconsistent right? But Bush is campaigning against her foreign policy and lack of accomplishments in public service.
Bush, as he’s done before, assigned responsibility to Clinton for what he regards as President Barack Obama’s misbegotten foreign policy.
Republicans in Congress have gone after Clinton the most sharply for her handling of the deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. But even apart from that, Bush said in the Fox interview, she was engaged in diplomacy that failed to reset relations with Russia and shrank U.S. commitments abroad.
That is manifestly true Jeb and the words are nice. There is just one problem: You.gave.her.a.medal.for.public.service. Her mismanagement of the State Department was a factor. As was her performance as Senator from New York. He said one thing and did another for no really good reason. Jeb is full of talking points but we need actions that match his words. In other words, please do walk the walk and don’t just spew talking points. The scary part is that the AP describes him as:
Bush is among the top candidates in a Republican race that now has a dozen notable figures, with more to come. Donald Trump entered the contest Tuesday.
Really? Between Jeb and The Donald, Santorum and Huckabee then Jeb looks good. Almost. To me the most important question for the Republican Party next year is this: “What is the difference” between Republicans and Democrats. How the nominee answers that question will be the difference between victory and defeat. Jeb in my opinion is not the right choice for the Republican ticket anymore than Huckabee or Santorum or Trump is.
Just another talking head. If this guy wins the election he will do nothing of any real note or substance. We’ve had enough Bush.
I wonder if that “honor” includes leaving four Americans, and dozens of other potential victims, to die in Benghazi by refusing them security? Does ANYONE think he’ll go after her horrific record as SecSate and her Pay for Play personal enrichment schemes etc etc etc in a debate, or on the campaign trail if he’s the GOP candidate?
Anyone? Bueller…Bueller…?
It will happen.
The day all of us here drink the Kool Aid.
