Last night, Van Jones debuted his new eponymously named “The Van Jones Show” on CNN with his first guest, rapper, entrepreneur and music mogul JAY-Z. Today, President Donald Trump is responding via Twitter. The gods of culture are sighing with pleasure. What a pair? Trump and JAY-Z. JAY-Z and Trump. Twitterverse is on fire.
Real quick background. Van Jones was President Obama’s first ever “Green Jobs Czar” in 2009. He quickly resigned when his past caught up to him. You can read all about him here. The quick and dirty deets are that Mr. Jones is a fan of mass murderer Mao-Tse-Tung, a 9-11 truther, and a racist. From Real Clear Politics in 2009:
Reporters also uncovered a number of racist statements Mr. Jones has made, including this one from January of last year: “the white polluters and white environmentalists are essentially steering poison into the people-of-color communities.”
Van Jones has been with CNN for a long time and debuted his show last night. JAY-Z is a great “get” and guarantees ratings. Mr. Z discussed his marriage and politics with Mr. Jones. Of course, President Trump came up and so did the much repeated, especially on CNN, “shit hole” comment. Let us watch the video together, shall we?
Oy. As the smart set say, “That’s a lot to unpack”. I am just the girl to unpack it. First of all, Trump denies he said “shit hole”. For the edification of Mr. Z, countries and people are two different things. Countries are made up of lands with borders and a political system. People are sentient beings with emotions. The countries these sentient beings are residing in may be governed by people who withhold land, money, food, education and rights from these people. The people may not have the wherewithal to stand up against the government. Therefore, the country may be a shit hole and the people may be beautiful. Mr. Z is conflating two entirely different concepts.
Mr. Z says he was just kidding about Donald Trump being a super bug, but he has just demonstrated how an untoward comment could be used to slam one, right?
And, finally, Mr. Z says that something in Mr. Trump’s “lineage” has caused him to be this way. Since Donald Trump and I share a Scottish and German lineage, I find this slam against our ancestors to be unacceptable. I am angry and hurt. I think Mr. Z meant something in Mr. Trump’s upbringing, not lineage. See how that works. Here is a hint for everyone. Don’t try and be cute and use words you are not familiar with in a conversation.
Social media loved this show. Here are some of the Twitterverse examples:
Naturally, DJT could not let this go untweeted:
My take on this is that JAY-Z (real name Shawn Corey Carter) and President Donald Trump are a match made in Social Media Heaven. They are both native New Yorkers (Z is Brooklyn and Trump is Queens). They are both entrepreneurs, moguls and kings of branding. They are both known womanizers. They both are well known for their foul mouths. Trump for “p*ssy” and “shit hole” (denied). JAY-Z for lyrics such as these from “Big Pimpin'”:
You know I thug em, f*ck em, love em, leave em
Cause I don’t f*ckin’ need em
Take em out the hood, keep em lookin’ good
But I don’t f*ckin’ feed em
First time they fuss I’m breezin’
Talkin’ bout, “What’s the reasons?”
I’m a pimp in every sense of the word, bitch
Better trust than believe em
In the cut where I keep em
‘Til I need a nut, ’til I need to beat the guts
Then it’s, beep beep and I’m pickin’ em up
Let em play with the dick in the truck
Many chicks want to put Jigga fist in cuffs
Divorce him and split his bucks
Just because you got good head, I’m a break bread
There you have it. They are calling each other out when they could be unstoppable together. “Make America F*ckin’ Great Again”. It could happen.
Jay -Z and his ilk are challenged by any words of two or more syllables… he should really stop pretending that he can actually speak English, and just go away
