It’s Statue Removal Season Again – Washington On The List

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.

George Orwell “1984”

You read this quote probably once a week any more and for good reason. We are watching “1984” play out before our eyes. In post-society New York City, city council is proposing the removal of the statues of George Washington and Christopher Columbus. I am shocked that the statues of George and Chris are still around. Remember that the statue of President Theodore Roosevelt was removed from the American Museum of Natural History for the heinous crime of communicating “racial hierarchy”.

What’s up with George? From the Washington Examiner:

The New York City Council is considering creating a reparations task force and removing statues of historical figures using the limited funds at its disposal as the council and much of the city’s agencies face significant budget cuts.
One of the council’s committees will meet on Tuesday to propose allocating resources toward removing artworks that “depict a person who owned enslaved persons or directly benefited economically from slavery, or who participated in systemic crimes against indigenous peoples or other crimes against humanity,” per the council’s agenda.

This removal process would affect several statues across the city, including ones of George Washington, New York governor and settler Peter Stuyvesant, and Christopher Columbus. However, if the Public Design Commission decided the statue or installation did not need to be removed, the Cultural Affairs Committee says the PDC should be required to place an “explanatory plaque” next to the work of art.

Oh, an “explanatory plaque”, okay. These people gulp at the firehose of Progressivism and bask in their own perceived superiority. Judging the past by the present is dangerous and stupid and stunts growth. Did George Washington own slaves? Yes. Slavery was world-wide and common in practice. Even better, the slave owners perceived themselves as superior to those slaves. Not unlike the New York City Council and those who came before them.

There are a half-dozen statues of George Washington around NYC and five statues of Christopher Columbus. Lucky him, there is only one statue of Peter Stuyvesant in Stuyvesant Square. There is a crime crisis, a migrant crisis and a growing commercial real estate crisis in New York City. Could the money be better spent than eliminating history?

CBS New York phrased this as looking for ways to tell the “whole story”. Sure:

Poor Natasha Williams. You could predict the words out of her mouth before she said them: reconciliation, equity, repairing the harms done by people of the past. You cannot. The people that did the “harm” didn’t consider it harm at the time and they’re dead. The harmed are dead. You cannot reconcile them or give them equity. They are dead. Slavery is outlawed in our country. These people make the roots of my hair hurt.

Remember when the Social Justice Warriors started bleating about the removal of the statues of Civil War Generals Lee and Jackson? Those statues are gone. That history erased. But you know who warned us.

God Bless President Trump. He called it on this one. And, the media still lies about the “fine people” quote.

If New York City were truly committed to “repairing the harms” done by dead people who lived by a different code, City Council would get rid of the George Washington Bridge (the GW) and the Lincoln Tunnel. Lincoln didn’t free the slaves, after all. AND, the Frederick Douglass statue was already torn down. They were compatriots.

You see how stupid these people are? Now for a palette cleanser. Glenn Jacobs (Kane) is my Mayor and he “X’d” this out today. This is the anniversary of George Washington’s “Farewell Address”. Washington was prescient in his warnings:
