How does Obama honor D-Day?

Yesterday was the 66th anniversary of D-Day. Yesterday was the anniversary that Allied forces freed the world from evil and tyranny. Over 160,000 brave men stormed the beaches at Normandy, and thousands of them fell there, to rest on that beach forever more. It’s a day of pride and of sadness; a day to celebrate freedom and mourn the thousands upon thousands of courageous men who died. Thoughts of the battles at Normandy, particularly at Omaha Beach, are heart-wrenching. The end was worth the sacrifice, but it was at a high cost. D-Day should be a day of solemn remembrance and sad gratitude.

Of course, it’s not such a day for Barack Obama.

He posted nothing on the White House website to commemmorate the 66th anniversary of D-Day. And, as noted at Gateway Pundit, it’s probably because he’s got better things to do. You know, like go to a party. With celebrities. And anti-Semite Desmond Tutu.

Ford’s Theatre Society will host its annual gala on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Ford’s Theatre (511 10th Street NW). The evening’s performance, titled “America Celebrates July 4th at Ford’s Theatre,” will be taped for broadcast on the ABC Television Network to air July 2, 2010 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET). Modern Family cast member Ty Burrell hosts a star-studded program with appearances by Kelly Clarkson, Renee Fleming, George Lopez, Lionel Richie, Robin Roberts, Dick Van Dyke, Laura Michelle Kelly and Gavin Lee from the Broadway Company of “Mary Poppins,” the Soldiers’ Chorus of the United States Army Field Band, and cast members from the Ford’s Theatre production of “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Interestingly, Archbishop Tutu had this to say on the anniversary of the day that Allied forces freed the world from tyranny.

“Security is not something that comes from the barrel of a gun.”

Right. I’m pretty sure that the anniversary of D-Day yesterday proved that demonstrably false. Sometimes, you have to take up arms. Sometimes, you have to be willing to kill people. Had we not done so in World War II, we might not ever have been able to stop Hitler.

Real nice tribute to D-Day from our president, huh?

Cassy, you are being unreasonable. It’s hard to get in 18 holes of golf AND pay tribute to the sacrifices of the American, British and Canadian soldiers who hit the beach on D-Day.

  • Had Americans not taken up guns on June 6th, 1944, most of Europe would likely still be ruled today by Chancellor Hitler.

We saved them all, and now they resent us for it. Next time Germany threatens to gobble them all up, I say we let it happen.
