Hogg At The Trough: New DNC Vice Chair Pads His Pockets

Raise your hand if you are surprised to see the new report from the New York Post that David Hogg, new Vice Chair of the DNC, is raising money for himself off his new position.

Given Hogg’s track record of self-promotion and ideas on how to make money, I think we should only be surprised that a) it took this long, and b) he’s not smart enough to conceal it.

But seeing how Hogg has literally been given things because of his activist position, and not his actual brain power (well done, Harvard!), why shouldn’t he think that his new position with the DNC is just another chance to make a fast buck by selling himself to the political activists?

Barely two weeks into his tenure, Hogg has been leveraging DNC contact lists to blast out messages soliciting donations to his own political action committee — from which he draws more than $100,000 in compensation a year, according to Federal Election Commission records.

“David Hogg here: I was just elected DNC Vice Chair! This is a huge win for our movement to make the Democratic Party more reflective of our base: youthful, energetic, and ready to win,” reads one of eight texts he sent out to the DNC’s vast database of phone numbers.

EIGHT TEXTS??? In TWO WEEKS?? David, honey, put the phone down and go touch some grass.

Solicitation texts include a link to Hogg’s “Leaders We Deserve” PAC.

“David Hogg — talk about living up to your name. A trough of DNC dollars all for him and he doesn’t seem to give an oink,” a top Democrat grumbled to The Post.

Hogg co-founded “Leaders We Deserve” in August 2023 with the stated goal of electing young progressives to Congress and state legislatures across the country. It also provided him a six-figure income job right out of college.

Since the PAC was founded, Hogg has pocketed more than $175,000, records show, with more than $20,000 in salary payments coming in December alone, the most recent month for which public data is available.

Nice work – if you can get it. But aren’t there rules against this sort of thing at the DNC?

While it’s not officially against the rules, personal PAC fundraising — instead of fundraising for the DNC — has rubbed some party brass the wrong way.

“It’s especially important for all Democratic national officials to focus on raising support for the party and not using their position to raise money for themselves or their personal political PACS,” groused a second senior Democratic Party official. “It’s a stunning lack of judgment that is concerning to many people.”

And apparently Hogg is starting to realize that he rubbed his snout in the wrong place.

Reached by phone Hogg told The Post he “was not doing any interviews” — and then hung up.

“David has already raised money for the DNC since becoming Vice Chair, and many times before,” a spokesman later emailed.

Oh, so since he raised money for the DNC before he got elected to be Vice Chair, it’s TOTALLY OKAY to take the DNC database and start selling himself and his PAC to all the donors. He’s just looking for HIS piece of the action, everyone! I mean, who wouldn’t listen to this and be inspired to donate to his personal PAC?

Take note, Democrats – THIS is who your party thinks can attract young voters and mobilize them. And if he happens to wet his beak along the way, well… at least he’s honest about it, instead of being on the USAID gravy train, right?

I’ll give Hogg credit for one thing – he realized the grift would be a whole lot better if he had an official title to go with it, and he suckered the DNC into giving him that title. They have no one to blame but themselves for this one. And they will learn nothing from it. Sit back and get some more popcorn, because David Hogg is going to cause more heartburn for Democrats along the way.

UPDATE 6:45 PM ET
David Hogg is offended by the accusation that he is using his DNC Vice Chair position for his own benefit.

Okay… please explain the eight texts with the link to your PAC included? If the Post has those receipts, then Hogg is about to be roasted.
