It seems that last night’s #GunsInAmerica town hall meeting was quite the deal. Honestly, I didn’t watch it. If I had, my family would’ve run for the hills and we would be shopping for a new TV! For the sanity of my family…and myself, I waited til it was done and started going through the news reports and videos of the grand event.
Quite frankly the pundits, reporters, and bloggers will have copy for years on everything Obama said, factual or otherwise. But for this Friday morning as you work on your first or second cup of coffee, lets focus on a great question asked by Taya Kyle.
Taya Kyle is an incredibly strong lady whom American Sniper Chris Kyle was so lucky and blessed to call his wife. She and their children are victims of gun violence that killed her husband and yet that has NOT sent her running and hiding under her bed waiting for the gun violence Chicken Little to crash down on her head again. As she says in her CNN Op-Ed last night:
I have been afraid of guns, I have sworn I would never use a gun on another person and so did not need one, and I have wanted to deny the existence of evil.
I have also become a gun owner, am prepared to defend myself with a firearm, and understand the fear of my freedoms being taken away.
Taya Kyle and many at the town hall meeting, including Kimberly Corban thoroughly understand those fears. They’ve each experienced pain and loss because someone used a gun as their tool of choice against them or someone they loved. And yet, Taya is now a gun owner and she understands the real statistics of gun violence. Watch and listen carefully:

Taya is EXACTLY on point that we can’t outlaw murder. Those who commit crimes, including murder, are indeed operating off a moral code that is the antithesis of ours. Taya is also correct in stating that there isn’t a law anywhere that will ever stop a murderer from using any means necessary to commit that incredibly violent act. We can and do use the laws of the land to bring justice to the victims once the crime has been committed; but from the time of Cain and Abel there is yet to be a law in place that will ever truly stop someone bent on killing or harming another.
Here’s something else to ponder. CDC statistics show that gun violence isn’t even one of the top 10 causes of death in this country. So is gun violence truly an epidemic like Obama wants us to believe? Take a look at these numbers and you decide:
Heart disease: 611,105
Cancer: 584,881
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 149,205
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 130,557
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 128,978
Alzheimer’s disease: 84,767
Diabetes: 75,578
Influenza and Pneumonia: 56,979
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 47,112
Intentional self-harm (suicide): 41,149
Remember Obama’s crocodile tears press conference on Tuesday? Take a look again at the statistics I posted concerning deaths related to gun violence. The question Taya asks is incredibly valid. Why AREN’T we celebrating the fact that the gun violence numbers are down and in fact are at an all-time low?
Listen carefully to the Obama’s answer to Taya. He wants us to believe that states like Wyoming are only kinda sort of effective when dealing with gun violence. He then goes on to imply that Chicago’s gun control laws are working beautifully! Cue the facts please:
JAN. 1, 2016 – JAN. 4, 2016
29
shooting victimsJAN. 1, 2015 – DEC. 31, 2015
2,986
shooting victims
The stats in Chicago for last year and the first 4 days of this year should give anyone pause. Most especially Obama because the reality is, Chicago’s gun control laws AREN’T working. I’m with Taya on this.
My government has proven that it’s not able to protect me against people who want to kill. And I don’t blame the government, because there is only one person to blame here: The man or woman who decided to kill.
My 2nd Amendment rights afford me the ability to protect myself and my family so that ANYONE who lives in this country will have the ability to live and abide by the freedoms afforded to us by our Constitution.
Fact is, its not the inanimate gun, nor the laws themselves that are the problem. Like it or not, it will always be the person who’s chosen abdicate his or her lack of morality. No matter how Obama wants to spin the dial, gun control will never be the answer to fixing someone’s lack of moral code.
We all know this has NEVER been about stopping violence.
This has ALWAYS been about gun confiscation.
That and more specifically, doing his level best to render our Constitution and therefore all Americans powerless before he leaves office.
Only good thing about last night’s town hall meeting is that he was persuaded to play “fair” which meant that, whether he liked it or not, he was handed questions that didn’t fit his narrative. And it was extremely evident that he didn’t like that one bit.
