They hate us. They really hate us. The unelected bureaucrats of FEMA hate the mostly poor, mountain folk who live in Appalachia. That’s the closest I can get to an answer when I try to understand why the Federal Emergency Management Administration sent $59 million to LUXURY hotels in New York City to house illegal immigrants.
I am not forgetting the folks out in California or the folks in La Haina in Hawaii. All though most of those still affected by Hurricane Helene live in Western North Carolina, some live here in East Tennessee. It was right after Hurricane Helene that FEMA proclaimed they were flat out of money. Biden had allowed The Federal Emergency Management Administration to use funds to provide lodging for illegal immigrants. On January 24, 2025, President Trump put a stop to that. BUT the unelected bureaucrats in the government don’t care what Trump said. From the Daily Wire:
Elon Musk said Monday that his “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) team discovered that FEMA spent nearly $60 million to house illegal immigrants in “luxury” New York City hotels last week.
In response, acting FEMA Director Cameron Hamilton said the payments had been suspended, and the employees who authorized them would be disciplined.
“The [DOGE] team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants,” Musk posted on X early Monday morning. “Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order.”
“That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high end hotels for illegals! A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds,” Musk added.
Yes. The Hurricane Helene victims can apply for help through March 8, 2025. Meanwhile the illegals have no lines, no waiting and no applications:

Federal funding fell short:
Those unelected bureaucrats in FEMA really hate us because at about the same time, they were kicking folks out of there hotel rooms into the cold, according to WRAL:
Despite the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) extending the deadline, dozens of people in western North Carolina were left without shelter Tuesday night after being kicked out of the hotels FEMA provided as temporary housing for those impacted by Hurricane Helene.
On Monday, FEMA announced it was extending the deadline for its Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) program for victims of Helene in western North Carolina.
Through the program, FEMA paid for hotel and motel rooms for thousands of people displaced by Hurricane Helene.
Tuesday just before 3:30 p.m., FEMA said on X that “current eligible occupants can remain in their lodging through the end of March 2025.”
But hours later, Senator Ted Budd posted this message on X:
“My office is hearing from dozens in WNC who have been kicked out of their hotels tonight, despite FEMA’s announcement yesterday that they were extending Transitional Sheltering Assistance through January 25.
“This is unacceptable. This needs to be fixed TONIGHT.”
Meantime, the illegals were in luxury hotels.
The folks in Western North Carolina and East Tennessee have been working hard at helping themselves but you know how life is.
I have some sad news.
This morning, three of the Mountain Mules, who became famous for carrying supplies through the mountain passes of Western North Carolina to Hurricane Helene victims, have tragically passed away.

Apparently, a tree fell on three of the Mountain Mules after a storm. Think of Vader, Amigo and Kev. Pray for out Mountain Folk in Western North Carolina. Hopefully soon, the unelected bureaucrats will stop fighting Trump and DOGE soon.

I’ve got an idea, how about they pull them illegals ut of the luxury hotels, and while we’re waiting for flights to send them back where they belong, THEY can take the place of those poor mules, and carry supplies to those that need them…
GWB says: What I find ironic is that those “mountain folk” are primarily Scots-Irish. Even the ones who aren’t have flowed into the Scots-Irish culture there. And the “Scots-Irish” (as opposed to either the Scots or the Irish, individually) were a group of folks sent there as an exile from Great Britain. Not as explicitly criminal as those sent to Australia, they were rebellious, cantankerous, cattle-thieving folks from those sorts of places. And a great many of them moved up into the mountains of the South Atlantic colonies and a bunch more stayed closer to the coasts and built that portion of the original United States. They were the ones who often moved out into Tennessee and Kentucky.
And, now that our government is more like King George’s than we would like to admit, it’s been going after those folks, too.
