Well, well, well, how the tables have turned on the Democrats.
The single-minded insistence that the Epstein Files were going to be President Trump’s Waterloo… hasn’t turned out quite like they planned so far. We’ve already known that none of the Epstein survivors have implicated President Trump – or Bill Clinton, for that matter – but Democrats were going for it anyway. After all, what was there to hide???
And then Democrats lost control of the runaway train. Trump said fine, you pass the discharge petition and I’ll sign it. The House passed it. The Senate passed it. It was a done deal. Except now, two sitting Democrats have some ‘esplaning to do.
As our readers know, Toni covered the very deep hole that Delegate Stacey Plaskett of the Virgin Islands has found herself in regarding texting Jeffrey Epstein. Well, she has escaped censure by the House (with some dirty double dealing involved that I’m sure we’re going to be hearing more about very soon), but is still trying to justify why she was texting so cordially with a convicted sex offender during a Congressional hearing.

PLASKETT: I believed Jeffrey Epstein had information. I was gonna get information to get at the truth.
CNN: So no regrets?
PLASKETT: Having a friendship with him is not something I would deem to have. And so, I’m just looking forward, I’m moving forward. And I think that’s what we as American people should do, is move forward. If individuals are not involved in illegal activity, extending his criminal enterprise or his financial enterprise or all those things, I think we need to look at what people are doing moving forward.
CNN: Wait, let me just better understand that. Is that – because at the time, he was a known sex offender, and it had been detailed, all the sexual abuse –
PLASKETT: There are a lot of people who have done a lot of crimes. And as a prosecutor, you get information from people where you can.
Ahem. This wasn’t a prosecution. And Plaskett would very much like everyone to “move forward” and ignore that she was TEXTING WITH A SEX OFFENDER. You know, if that doesn’t work for President Trump, who has repeatedly said that the Epstein Files are a “distraction” from everything else that is happening, then it sure as hell shouldn’t work for Stacey Plaskett.
And other Democrats know that. Congressman Jamie Raskin of Maryland tried defending Plaskett by saying that she was just communicating with a “constituent.”
“They want to give them another headline! Which is, that they’ve arraigned a Democratic member for taking a phone call from her constituent, Jeffrey Epstein, in the middle of a hearing. And, of course, I don’t think there are any rules here against taking phone calls in a hearing,” Raskin exclaimed on the House floor Tuesday afternoon amid Congress’s efforts to pass a bill aimed at censuring Plaskett.
“Are we saying just because they were on a phone call, they’re guilty of something? We should strip them of their committee assignments. We should censure them. Have we gotten to that point? I mean, come on,” he continued. “Look, this is the House of Representatives. The United States of America. Let’s stick by the Constitution. Let’s stick by due process.”
The White House’s Rapid Response team quickly shot back at Raskin on social media, posting a clip of his remarks that they described as “sick.” Raskin’s defense, while novel, was not alone, however. Several Democrats spoke from the House floor in defense of the congressional delegate from the U.S. Virgin Islands on Tuesday, railing against Democrats for “besmirch[ing]” their colleague.
And during this entire circus on the House floor, brain trust Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett tried to claim that many many many Republicans had taken money from a “Jeffrey Epstein.” Except… wrong guy.

Jasmine Crockett is either phenomenally stupid or intentionally lying – but let’s not rule out both.
But the Democrat with the most to lose right now is not Stacey Plaskett. It’s Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who now has an email tying him to a solicitation for campaign money from Jeffrey Epstein – AFTER Epstein’s conviction. Temu Obama is having a VERY hard time trying to distance himself from that email.
Jeffries insisted he has “no recollection” of any such outreach and “certainly” never accepted money from Epstein when pressed on the matter by CNN’s chief White House correspondent Kaitlin Collins.
Pressed on CNN about the 2013 message, circulated by a New York consulting firm working with Jeffries at the time, the Democratic leader dismissed any suggestion of a personal connection.
“Yeah, of course, I have no recollection of the email,” he said. “I‘ve never had a conversation with him. Never met him. Know nothing about him other than the extreme things that he‘s been convicted of doing.”
He added that he supports efforts to release all relevant Department of Justice material tied to Epstein.
Collins followed: “So you never got a donation from Jeffrey Epstein or anything like that?”
“Certainly not,” Jeffries replied.
Oh, and Jeffries sees no problem with Stacey Plaskett’s communications with Epstein.
Collins: "Were Stacey Plaskett's texts with Epstein appropriate?"
Jeffries: "She is not of violating any House rule."
Collins: "Do you think it was appropriate?"
Jeffries: "I have not had a conversation with Stacey Plaskett… That's the end of the story." pic.twitter.com/cCU4NOejf8

Seems like that the Epstein dragnet that the Democrats so very much wanted is starting to ensnare them. In politics, nothing is ever clean and neat and gives you what you want. Democrats made a wish on the monkey’s paw, and they might be very sorry in the long run that they made the Epstein Files into both the boogeyman that would “get” Donald Trump, and the pot of gold at the end of their rainbow.
