So the FBI has issued a warning about the very creepy Barbie ‘Video Girl’ doll, which believe it or not has a camera built into it. They fear the doll could be used by pedophiles to make child pornography. WTH?
Barbie ‘Video Girl’ Doll
The Barbie ‘Video Girl’ doll, which is on sale in the U.S. and the UK, has a hidden camera in the chest and a small LCD screen video display in her back. A ‘cyber crime alert’ from the FBI has said the Barbie doll, which went on sale in July, could be used to record footage used for distribution by pedophiles.
‘FBI investigation has revealed instances where an individual convicted of distributing child pornography had given a Barbie doll to a six-year-old girl. The document went on to cite the findings of another investigation which found ‘examples where a concealed video camera had recorded child pornography’.
That camera did not involve a doll, FBI agent Frederick Gutt said, but the possible combination of the two in a single device presents concerns for investigators. There have been no recorded incidents of paedophiles using the Barbie ‘Video Girl’ to prey on young children. The alert adds: ‘Law enforcement is encouraged to be aware of unconventional avenues for possible production and possession of child pornography, such as the Barbie Video Girl.’
Apparently the Barbie Video Girl doll can capture up to 30 minutes of footage and the video can be downloaded and streamed live to a computer. There is no indication it can be streamed directly to the internet.
This is unbelievable to me! I’m sure little girls would love this Barbie but can you see how pedophiles would use this doll to not only lure little girls but also to film their crimes? I sure can. By the way, the ‘Barbie Video Girl’ doll, costs a whopping $49.99 and is aimed at children six and above. It’s actually been nominated for the 2011 Toy of the Year Award. Boo!

You made a huge leap and an inappropriate assumption that child molesters will use something like this little Barbie doll to record their crimes, so parents shouldn’t buy the product??? 1) Get your mind out of the gutter Prude Hilda. 2) Let parents make the decision as to what they will buy their kids for Christmas instead of you doing it from a strangely slanted and hugely alarmist position.

Also, in case you didn’t notice the warning came from an FBI INVESTIGATOR. You know, someone who knows a hell of a lot more about pedophiles than you do, apparently.

BikerDan says: A camera in a doll potentially used by pedofiles? Maybe. But I think if I were a kid and had a camera built in to one of my army men or say my GI Joe, I would use it to spy on my brother or my sister.
