Can/Should Trump Intervene In Iran?

President Trump is threatening to come to the aid of protestors in Iran. He is threatening that if Iran kills protestors in the streets he will authorize kinetic actions against the military of the reining regime. That is to say that the military will die. The Big Satan will intervene.

The are not your average Iranian protests. Per Fox News, these protests have more to do with the rapidly deteriorating economic situation:

President Donald Trump warned early Friday that the U.S. would intervene if Iran started killing protesters.

Writing on Truth Social, the president said if Iran shoots and “violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue.”

“We are locked and loaded and ready to go,” Trump said.

Trump’s warning comes as demonstrations triggered by Iran’s deteriorating economy expand beyond the capital and raise concerns about a potential heavy-handed crackdown by security forces. At least seven people — including protesters and members of Iran’s security services — have been reported killed during clashes, according to international reporting.

Trump’s social media post:

For someone who has generally been against sending our military to intervene in foreign things if we are not going to win (Me), this is a tough one.

This is another chunk in the large pile of hippo poop that Jimmy Carter left us, besides FEMA, the Department of Education and giving away the Suez Canal plus more. Carter didn’t support the stable state of Iran or the Shah of Iran. Couldn’t build enough homes to cover his mistakes and inability to make a decision. Too harsh? No.

President Ronald Reagan started cleaning up after Carter with the release of the hostages. We then had five very weak Presidents with
the Trump split. Now, Trump is left cleaning up the feckless lots even more feckless Cabinets’ mistakes.

Trump says we are locked and loaded:

As oil revenues drop, the taxes go up AND there is a 42% inflation rate. Expect more protestors to be killed, especially if the Iranian leaders begin to doubt their abilities to clamp down on the protestors.

How many of you remember Mahsa Amini? She died in a coma after being beaten for not wearing her hijab properly. The 22 year old from Kurdistan was visiting her brother in Tehran when she was accosted and beaten by the Morality Police. Biden and his ilk were ominously silent in September of 2022, when I wrote about this. Iranian women burned their hijabs and danced. The Biden State Department refused to intervene. They were all busy studying DEI.

Iran is largely peopled by discerning, educated and thinking people. Liberated, they wouldn’t be like Afghanistan or Somalia. In fact the heir to the Peacock or Sun Throne already has a plan for a peaceful transition.

SHOULD THE UNITED STATES UNDER PRESIDENT TRUMP INTERVENE?

Oof. I love putting economic pressure on these despots and letting their own people handle it. We already have our fingerprints on enough things.

Per Newsweek, Iran is making lots of threats:

Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said that any U.S. interference would destabilize the region.

Larijani added: “Trump should know that intervention by the U.S. in domestic problems corresponds to chaos in the entire region and the destruction of the U.S. interests.”

Ali Shamkhani, adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei weighed in to say “any interventionist hand that gets too close to the security of Iran will be cut.”

Mayhap Mr. Shamkhani forgot about this:

I have total faith in Trump, Secretary Hegseth and most of the Department of War. It would be nice to get the House and Senate behind this but, fat chance.

Good luck to the beautiful people Iran. They need it.

    Yes.

This is a war that should have been ended – decisively – 46 years ago.

Mr. Trump is not anti-war, just anti-unnecessary war. This particular one has been a cold and protracted one, and for the first time since taking office, #47 has something along the lines of a “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” moment.

There were a lot of missteps by both the HW Bush and Clinton administrations as far as dealing with the political/administrative vacuum that came with the fall of the USSR, but Mr. Reagan was in no way wrong for his part in bringing about that fall. Neither is Mr. Trump in what he’s doing to destabilize the Ayatollah’s platform (except, possibly, not rocking the boat enough).

    Yes, but only indirectly.

Revolutions don’t succeed without external support. We need to follow the approach which Rep. Charlie Wilson used in Afghanistan against the Russians. We supply weapons and logistical support, but no one in-country. If training camps are needed, the Saudis hate the Persians enough that they should probably agree to allow them there. But, we’ll need to be more careful on who we support.
