California county letting criminals run free

California county letting criminals run free

There’s really only one good use for government, and that is to keep its people safe, from enemies both foreign and domestic. This can be taken to mean large-scale enemies, like terrorists, that our military fights or your regular, every-day scumbags that break the law, that our police deals with. God knows government bureaucrats really aren’t good at anything else. Once government starts getting involved in industry and the free markets, you know it’s crossing a dangerous line.

Of course, as our government steals more and more of the wealth from its own citizens, we’re seeing that the responsibilites that the government is entrusted with are being breached. If we’re going to have a fascist government, they’re at least supposed to keep us safe, right?

Yeah, not quite.

Just look at Contra Costa County in California, where certain criminals are no longer going to be prosecuted.

Misdemeanors such as assaults, thefts and burglaries will no longer be prosecuted in Contra Costa County because of budget cuts, the county’s top prosecutor said Tuesday.

District Attorney Robert Kochly also said that beginning May 4, his office will no longer prosecute felony drug cases involving smaller amounts of narcotics. That means anyone caught with less than a gram of methamphetamine or cocaine, less than 0.5 grams of heroin and fewer than five pills of ecstasy, OxyContin or Vicodin won’t be charged.

People who are suspected of misdemeanor drug crimes, break minor traffic laws, shoplift, trespass or commit misdemeanor vandalism will also be in the clear. Those crimes won’t be prosecuted, either.

Why not just hold a giant press conference asking criminals to flock to Contra Costa County, because that’s in essence what you’re doing now anyways? The government is taxing us more and more, they’re spending more and more of our money, yet somehow, this county cannot find the money to provide its residents with basic law enforcement? Real nice.

And take heart, readers. California is the warning bell for the rest of the country. Do we want anarchy to become widespread? I hate government as much as any other cranky conservative, but I certainly don’t want to turn to anarchy. And as Van Helsing says, California is “the croaking canary in the coalmine of Big Government moonbattery”.

The Peoples Republic of Maryland who are quite jealous of the policies of California and New York are flirting with this idea in Baltimore County and City. Yes Baltimore, winner of the Murder Capital of the World is also deciding whether or not to start releasing violent criminals onto our streets because of budget cuts. California’s plan:

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2182194/posts

One California govt. official said that by releasing these guys would result in about 130 deaths, which is a fair trade for the amount of money saved. This is insane, plain and simple.

Typical. Let the little stuff slide. Sounds just like my school. That is never a good decision, at any level.

  • JW M says:

Sounds like a case of priorities – supporting the “less fortunate” is more important than protecting tax payers. But really this is the standard scam to get a tax increase approved – always go after police or fire but never touch welfare programs.

Would it be a sin if I pray in church on Sunday that California should fall into the ocean ASAP?

  • MAS1916 says:

Oh come on now… California is just trying to follow Obama’s lead and make peace by “being nice with others.”

This childish view of the world is only going to get good people killed. And like our President’s policies, it will invite bad guys to commit more evil upon us.

California has got to wake up.

And lets not forget that California is one of those states that no only doesn’t want anyone having concealed carry, but will also prosecute you even if you acted in self defense.

Their reasoning is that you should attempt to retreat if you are attacked and defending yourself makes you just as bad as the criminal.

Yet one more reason that my wife and I want to move out of here as soon as we graduate.

I can understand quietly not prosecuting some petty crimes in order to save money.

But why on earth would you announce, to everyone, that you’re no longer prosecuting them?

I’ve noticed this. It seems like in lean budget times, it’s always government’s legitimate responsibilities that always face the axe. Federal cuts? Gut the military. State cuts? Cut back on forestry and fire-fighting programs. Local cuts? Start laying off police officers and trim the district attorney’s budget.

They never talk about getting rid of some arts endowment program, or throwing out the illegals clogging up our schools, hospitals, and jails. (I’ve noticed that the free health care for illegals is never cited as a cause of California’s budget woes.) And in the case of cities and counties, it’s always talk about cutting back on the things that municipal governments owe their taxpaying citizens – police and fire protection, roads, and the like.

Oh, sure, they’ll furlough a couple of employees, let a handful go, and trim 10% off the salaries of the ones who are left. Somehow the unions always seem to be able to block any meaningful savings in personnel costs, I’ve noticed.

Would it be a sin if I pray in church on Sunday that California should fall into the ocean ASAP?

How about a compromise – just the parts which lie west of the San Andreas fault? That would rid us of the wackiness of the coastal communities down south while preserving the interior of the state (where I live).

Bingo. It seems like the authorities would at least want to keep this out of the papers. Not only will the criminals now flock to Contra Costa County, but it also might give other local governments in California the same idea. (According to today’s headlines, the recession has hit us out here and like 2 other states, even harder than the rest of the country. Some central valley towns in the Fresno/Bakersfield area have higher unemployment right now than during the 1930s.)

I used to live in Contra Costa County. Right along the Delta leading into San Francisco Bay. Traffic was horrible, rents were sky-high, and people were surly, rude, and aggressive compared to my previous hometowns in the Sacramento Valley. Somehow, I don’t regret moving away and returning to my roots.

So they removed concealed handgun licenses and severely curtail the ability to use a weapon of any kind in self-defense on the grounds that you have police available, why would you need to defend yourself. Then they begin incrementally taking away police protection.

    Awesome.

Glad I live in Texas where the state still recognizes the right of the individual to protect himself against aggression (just got my CHL in the mail, very happy about that).

Good luck california, when things fall apart there, please, don’t come here.

I can only hope this is a negotiating move to get the county’s legislature (whatever they call it) to wake up and properly fund them… the schools here announce they’re dumping sports to do the same…

    Golly,
If da gum’mint decides that they will no longer honor their contract with the citizenry, then ALL aspects of the broken contract
(allegedly protected and enforced by, um, da gum’mint)ASSUMED by the citizenry are null and void as well.

No need for a referendum, or popular vote to deny funds, or
recognize ANY so-called “authority” that may have been previously ASSUMED by those attempting to extort…um…taxes, under the tattered umbrella of “…for the children”, “..to protect and serve.”, or ESPECIALLY “um…we’re here to help”.

I’m fairly sure the demonstrable performances of the capitalist Wal Mart, vs. the Socialist bureaucracy of FEMA, in response to the “act of God” that shredded the Gulf Coast*, should have been the bell wether for ANYONE considering a Libertarian/Galt attitude.

Of course, that’s just my opinion, there MAY be others.

    Great to read your post!

Being a legal resident I too am amazed that our country and citizens continue to allow our country to be invaded by non English speaking leaches. The cost to our country is ridiculous however our government continues t look the other way rather then enforcing current laws. How much could we save if we did check students to see if they are legal citizens entitled to get a tax paid for education rather then leaches sucking our system dry? Perhaps class size would no longer be an issue if leaches were returned to their own country? Perhaps school free lunches and after school child care would actually drop to less then 10%? Would ILLEGAL parents (the head leaches) have another reason to not to feel invited to our country if their children were not educated at taxpayer expense? Would not schools save dollars if each school bulletin did not have to be printed in multiple languages? But now for the real world our education system (setup by the federal and state government) encourages schools to accept leaches. How you ask? Our system does not care if legal or illegal but rather pays school districts per child attending thus it is in schools best interest to allow anyone to attend as all our schools are concerned about is that they get a slice of the taxpayer dollars

As a state California gives low cost health insurance (Paid by taxpayer’s dollars) in the form of Healthy Families. Not only do they give illeagls healthy families inexpensive coverage but actually have nerve to spell out that if you are an illegal they will not release this information to INS. Perhaps it is time for all of use who are stupid enough to pay for health insurance to get our illegal drivers license and social security card? Damm Mom and Dad for raising me not to be a leach!
