They actually did it. Federal Medical Center Carswell, a women’s prison in Fort Worth, Texas, now has a separate unit for male inmates who identify as women. The courts couldn’t agree on what to do with them. D.C. District Judge Royce Lamberth, a Reagan appointee, blocked their transfer out of women’s facilities. Another judge ordered them kept away from the female population. So the Bureau of Prisons carved out a men’s wing inside the women’s prison and started moving more of them there.

That should have been the moment the whole thing collapsed under its own stupidity. Instead, the men in that unit turned around and sued again. This time they’re saying being kept apart is hurting their mental health. Their gender dysphoria is getting worse. Years of progress are being undone. One of them is talking about suicidal thoughts again.

According to the filing, there were over 20 male inmates at FMC Carswell alone at the time, adding, “Many of these male inmates are incarcerated for violent acts against women and children, to include rapists, child molesters, and domestic abusers. The prison officials allow these male inmates to intimidate women in lines for medications, meals, and in assigned cells.”

Texas Federal Judge Sidney Fitzwater, another Reagan appointee, ultimately signed a protective order, partitioning the men into a separate floor of the facility, not to interact with the women.

“It is being described as a ‘men’s prison within a women’s federal prison,” Fleming told The Federalist in an email correspondence. “Judge Lamberth believes the men have a right to be in a women`s prison, without any type of segregation from the general population of women inmates. Judge Fitzwater does not.” – The Federalist

Apparently, female inmates are required to surrender their safety, their privacy, and their basic dignity so a group of men with violent records can continue treating women’s prisons like their personal hunting ground.

This Used To Be Simple

Men’s prisons for men. Women’s prisons for women. Then a bunch of warped men decided the women’s side looked better and demanded to be moved over. The Biden administration pushed this craziness. Trump came in, signed an executive order, and tried to put them back where they belong. A federal judge immediately stepped in and said not so fast, you can’t transfer them out. Another judge looked at the mess and said, fine, but at least keep them away from the actual women for their safety.

What kind of bizarro-world loop are we stuck in at this point?

The debate over housing male inmates in women’s prisons is occurring across multiple correctional systems, and this federal case is the latest example.

The Separation Already Answered The Question

I don’t know how many times we have to watch this happen before someone admits what’s actually going on. The second you separate the men from the women, you’ve already conceded that the differences matter.

Officials at Carswell didn’t create that unit for fun. They did it after female inmate Rhonda Fleming sued, arguing that women were being forced to share intimate spaces with male inmates, some of them with violent records against women and children. A Texas judge agreed enough to order the separation. The separation itself is the evidence. Yet the conversation immediately pivots to how the men are suffering without full access to the women.

“The trans-identifying men in the separate unit in Carswell are now claiming that their gender dysphoria is increasing because they are separate from the ‘other’ women,” Cypher said. “The problem the trans-identifying men have always complained about is that they are abused by male prisoners. Now, they are complaining about not being with the women. The women who live there objected. They got a limited protective order. And somehow that still wasn’t enough. Represented by LGBTQ legal groups, the male inmates filed an emergency motion demanding to be returned to the women’s general population. Now separation itself is framed as harm.

Stuck With The Consequences

This is the same pattern that keeps showing up everywhere else. Sports. Schools. Shelters. And prisons. Every time the claim lands in a new place, the rest of us are expected to pretend it’s a fresh question. It isn’t. It’s the same insistence that women’s spaces exist to accommodate male feelings, and that any boundary is an act of cruelty.

These women locked in prison never asked for men in their spaces. They’re not the WNBA, falling all over themselves to invite males onto the court, into the locker rooms, and into the spotlight while demanding the rest of us call it progress. One group is trapped with the consequences and has no real power to refuse. The other is choosing it, celebrating it, and treating any pushback like a moral failing. The difference in agency couldn’t be clearer, and neither could the difference in honesty.
