Antifa: Spoiled Child of the MSM

The MSM bias toward Antifa is like watching a parent grovel to their spoiled child. Ignore the faults, while loudly boasting about their spawn’s virtues.

The MSM has long held an admiration for left wing extremest groups, and portrays them in a neutral-positive light.

The outbreaks of rioting and looting are overriding the protests stemming from the death of George Floyd, and there are questions about who is responsible for these acts. Conservative politicians are blaming far-left agitators and Antifa.

Antifa has made no secret of their ultimate goals, or their destruction filled pathway. Every social crisis is another opportunity to expand their influence. The MSM, in the guise of providing “information” about Antifa, has been citing an “expert source.” One that wrote the guidebook for the modern Antifa movement, “Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook“, Mark Bray writes that the book is,

…an unabashedly partisan call to arms that aims to equip a new generation of anti-fascists with the history and theory necessary to defeat the resurgent Far Right.… argues that militant anti-fascism is a reasonable, historically informed response to the fascist threat that persisted after 1945 and that has become especially menacing in recent years.”

~xii introduction

He has no reservations about laying the modern fascist movement at Trumps feet, his book continues,

But interest in, and enthusiasm for, anti-fascism grew after Trump’s victory, and the wave of racist violence that it produced. While countering institutional oppression remained vitally important, many came to believe that genuine resistance to Trump also necessitated developing forces to counteract street-level fascist violence. Thus, many new groups have been formed.”

p. 114

Why minimize the experts accomplishments?

The MSM is quietly disregarding the level of crazy written in this book. The recent ABC news story, “What is antifa? Behind the group Trump wants to designate a terrorist organization“, lists Mark Bray as, “a history professor at Rutgers University and author of “The Anti-Fascist Handbook.” What they fail to mention is anything remotely related to the contents of the book. He’s being portrayed as an expert source of information, but not disclosed as an overt Antifa supporter. His answers are unchallenged, allowing him to surmise Antifa as,

Most of what they do entails researching who far-right groups are, figuring out who their leaders are and notifying their employers and their communities …. So it’s a lot of a kind of private investigator work that sometimes spills out into the streets with confrontations.”

That’s like saying, “Hannibal Lecter is a brilliant doctor, who sometimes enjoys unusual proteins.” Fact without truth.

Antifa is more often than not, presented as a frontline defense and counterbalance to horrible Right-Wing Extremists (!!!). They stopped the horrible Ann Coulter from speaking at Berkley! They stood against the White Nationalists at Charlottesville! They protected a Portland parade from Trump supporters participating (they got the parade cancelled. Typifies the future in antifa world “nothing for anyone, all is equal!”).

Antifa has one ally; itself

In 2017 “The Atlantic” wrote, “The Rise of the Violent Left” asking the question, “Antifa’s activists say they’re battling burgeoning authoritarianism on the American right. Are they fueling it instead?”

In hindsight, the piece asked good questions and addressed points we are seeing today,

Antifa believes it is pursuing the opposite of authoritarianism. Many of its activists oppose the very notion of a centralized state. But in the name of protecting the vulnerable, antifascists have granted themselves the authority to decide which Americans may publicly assemble and which may not. That authority rests on no democratic foundation. Unlike the politicians they revile, the men and women of antifa cannot be voted out of office. Generally, they don’t even disclose their names.”

Today Antifa has use for the protests associated with the death of George Floyd. But it’s not to further the cause for Black lives and policing oversight. Their goal is to destabilize the pillars of American civilization. “The Washington Times” writes,

“Antifa’s actions represent a hard break with the long tradition of a peaceful political process in the United States,” said former National Security Council staff member Rich Higgins. “Their Marxist ideology seeks not only to influence elections in the short term but to destroy the use of elections as the determining factor in political legitimacy.”

The MSM should be all over this story. But they give it the barest of acknowledgement. Independent outlets, like “Project Veritas” are left to investigate the secretive organization.

Prior bad acts means further acts are likely bad too

Antifa and the MSM will happily report that nothing has expressly linked the group to the looting and destruction happening around the country. “The Nation” wrote an Antifa exoneration piece about how the FBI found no link to Antifa and violent protesters (we call those looters and rioters),

Groups associated with antifa have destroyed property and committed violence in the past, but the fact that the FBI’s situation reports cannot find any evidence of such involvement now suggests that fears about such groups may be exaggerated.”

It continues,

The FBI report, however, states that “based on CHS [Confidential Human Source] canvassing, open source/social media partner engagement, and liaison, FBI WFO has no intelligence indicating Antifa involvement/presence.”

What I’m reading is that the FBI, laden with its own internal blindspots, was incapable of infiltrating a tightly knit group to determine if they are rioting… yes? And their basis for this conclusion is that the people on the ground didn’t see anything that screamed “ANTIFA Destroy America!!”? Oh, they looked at open source social media… yeah, because the ACLU didn’t advise participants on how to minimize the digital footprint to prevent tracking (actually, they did. Here).

Quoting Kenneth deGraffenreid, who was deputy national counterintelligence executive during the George W. Bush administration, the Washington Times reports,

“The FBI has not had a meaningful domestic counterintelligence capability for many years,” Mr. deGraffenreid said. “They’ve been distracted or politically corrupted.”

Based on their “in depth” infiltration of hoarding rioters, I believe Mr. deGraffenreid is correct in his assessment of the FBI’s capabilities, and political corruption.

“Washington Times” continues,

Antifa has been operating relatively unimpeded by law enforcement in recent years despite its use of violence, and many analysts credit the movement’s support and sympathy from the liberal left of American political and media establishment.

Jeremiah Ellison, son of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, tweeted his support for Antifa on Sunday. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio had his daughter arrested in New York with protesters, and Sen. Tim Kaine’s son Woody also was affiliated with Antifa,”

Well then, it’s good that Project Veritas has forthcoming information that the FBI can’t find. With two hands and a flashlight….and a map. But I do look forward to the FBI’s imminent report on yet another “hoax we must believe, because it’s 2A white guys.” AKA the Boogaloo’s and their Hawaiian shirts!

Update: Project Veritas has uploaded their interview with a former Antifa activist, here.

In the picture at top? That’s the exact moment you need to pull the trigger. Drop him AND the Molotov right there, together. If the Molotov breaks when it hits the ground, all that much better.

And anyone – cop or not – can morally and legally claim Defense Of Others. That’s a lethal weapon he’s about to throw.

  • GWB says:

there are questions about who is responsible for these acts
    Well, no. Not really.

the wave of racist violence that it produced
Well, no. The election of Trump didn’t produce it. The progressive left produced it because they couldn’t handle a simple change of political power. They couldn’t handle no longer ruling.

developing forces to counteract street-level fascist violence
That would require there actually be “fascist violence” on the streets.
Only “street-level violence” I ever saw was communist violence. And I’ve been around a long while.

notifying their employers and their communities
IOW, slander and libel, sounds like.

Many of its activists oppose the very notion of a centralized state.
Understand this for what it is: the endgame of ALL marxism, the elimination of the state!
Some marxists believe you have to go through an all-controlling state to get to the no-state condition. Others believe you can go straight to the no-state condition, and the people (read to mean “the people with correct attitudes and spike bats”) will correct any aberrations as they arise. Alternatively, some believe you use civilization to achieve the dictatorship of the proletariat, while others believe you return to the primitive. (Oddly, both actually drag you through the primitive – it’s where communism always ends up.)

Prior bad acts means further acts are likely bad too
As Glenn Reynolds likes to say, “Prior performance is no guarantee of future results.” Usually preceding some headline that all of us would have said “We saw that coming.”

Oh, they looked at open source social media…
You mean, like all the folks reporting pre-staged pallets of bricks before these riots?

the ACLU did[] advise participants on how to minimize the digital footprint
Not that it made it disappear entirely. Plenty of bloggers and such have posted tweets from anti-fa twits, as well as FarceBook postings.

I, personally, think we should bring back bounties. Let some poor person who just lost their entire livelihood in the riots chase down a few of these folks and reap the rewards. Dead or alive. Since the people we asked to do it – the government – seems incapable (and, in some places, in league with these people).

    • As Glenn Reynolds likes to say, “Prior performance is no guarantee of future results.” Usually preceding some headline that all of us would have said “We saw that coming.”

“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” I’m parenting a 15 year old man-cub. This is insightful on a new level, and while I agree with Glenn’s statement… Prior performance does influence future performance. If it worked once, it’s likely to work again (in my life it’s usually related to man-cub cleaning his bathroom- “I did it!! To my standard, not yours”! )
And, as man-cub has learned, the variables (my level of disgust being primary) impact the outcome. But his performance…. the same.

the digital footprint- short of removing the SIM card and battery… the device is traceable. But it can be minimized enough to protect the user information/location tracking from the police. But I don’t think Antifa leaders (the ones who will eventually be caught, charged, and become tenured college professors) carry a device during their riots. Too much risk if they are arrested. Plenty of fans and wanna-be influencers are there to broadcast their antics. Methinks those same people are behind the tweets etc.

I view the Antifa groups like any other gang (be it Mafia, Hell’s Angels, or ISIS). They are happy to use low level stooges for grunt work (aka fodder). But once a person is admitted into membership of a cell they are valuable to the organization (be it funding, or influence, or intelligence) and protected.

      • GWB says:

        I agree with Glenn’s statement
He uses it very ironically. As in “How could you miss that outcome?”

I see your point on the “digital footprint”. I was thinking primarily in the social media context.

  • Joe R. says:

ANTIFA – construct of the SIEU and POS (D).

My local VFW is going to hold 12 Fing marches this Summer, they’re going to drive armored vehicles downtown, Block traffic. March with real rifles, and big a** flags. Not going to even file for an Fing permit.

  • Taylor says:

The FBI really has become a politically corrupt organization. Everything the Left said it was back in decades past (but for different reasons).

  • Mary says:

But if they take charge, who would be leader? Infighting I guess,, which will destroy them in the end. Has happened many times before now.
