One of the most eponymous speeches of American history is Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech.
It is one of the most powerful and inspirational speeches in American history. Delivered on August 28, 1963 to more than 200,000 people while standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial, Dr. King personalized his dream, saying: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
As Newt Gingrich points out, we still have a long ways to go. Especially since identity politics has steadily become the norm over the last two-three years, to the detriment of us all. Dr. King’s speech is worth reading over and over again.
It’s also worth noting that Dr. King was a solid Christian and voted Republican. His faith and his work brought about much needed change for this country. So, how does CNN celebrate Martin Luther King Day? With this:
– He's an environmental hero
– He was a socialist before it was cool
– He never let a political disagreement turn nasty
Many Americans have turned MLK into a safe holiday mascot, but some say King still speaks in ways that go beyond civil rights https://t.co/zMBtSBfPIm pic.twitter.com/Y8gl4Kx7lP

Yes, folks, you read that correctly. According to CNN and specifically, John Blake, Martin Luther King was a socialist long before socialism was cool. Not only that, but they pulled all sorts of quotes from a variety of sermons, writings, and speeches of his to make their case. Such as this from 1966:
“It didn’t cost the nation a penny to open lunch counters. It didn’t cost the nation a penny to give us the right to vote. But it will cost the nation billions to feed and house all of its citizens. The country needs a radical redistribution of wealth.”
Or this when he was 20:
“I imagine you already know that I am much more socialistic in my economic theory than capitalistic … So today capitalism has outlived its usefulness. It has brought about a system that takes necessities from the masses to give luxuries to the classes.”
Then there’s the fact that he compared the U.S. to Norway in 1964 and the U.S. came up short in regards to free healthcare and government run education. Which means…TA DA!!! Martin Luther King was a socialist!!
Ummm…yeah. NO.
"socialist before it was cool"? I'm sorry, what? https://t.co/xk3s8HArWD

That was my response when I first saw that.

SNORT!!
The Venezuelan people dying because of socialism would probably disagree about their government being “cool.”

What didn’t help matters is John Blake doubling down after being called out for his asinine article.
I'm not sure a lot of people would link what's happening to Venezuela to socialism; in fact everything I've read and talking to people from there attributes there collapse to other problems. https://t.co/BfgiKWBoYz
— John K. Blake (@JohnBlakeCNN) January 15, 2018
Oh, good grief! The entirety of the problems in Venezuela can be definitively traced back to socialism!! That government has run the country into the ground in their neverending quest to make bank off of other people’s money and work. People are dying, but Blake refuses to understand that.
Socialism never works. It has never worked, it will never work. It’s killed and continues to kill millions. It’s disgusting that an organization like CNN would push it. Shame on you all!

Exactly.

Also, you're wrong. Socialism always leads to starvation on a mass scale. Stop normalizing it.
— American Hero (@trueholygoat) January 15, 2018
That is it in a nutshell. Normalizing the decades of failures that socialism has wrought and using King’s legacy to do so isn’t doing anyone any favors.
So I see that Martin Luther King Day has now become "Martin Luther King was totally on board with my personal political hobby-horse that wasn't even on his radar in the 1960s" day.
We're backsliding, people.

Evidently the “Martin Luther King was really a socialist!” is John Blake’s latest hobby horse. Cute.
In King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” he spoke movingly and eloquently about the indignities of segregation and the gospel of freedom will mean for all.
Socialism isn’t freedom. Socialism is government rule, the very antithesis of what our Republic is about. Dr. King wanted freedom for all from the onerous Jim Crow laws, he wanted freedom from discrimination.
Yet instead of writing a thoughtful and truthful essay about King’s accomplishments, CNN’s John Blake tried to rewrite history in favor of his personal hobby horse and ended up looking like a fool. SAD!
And we all know that the “I have a dream” aspect of that days oration was impromptu wingin’ it, right?
And we all know who Mahalia Jackson was, right?
IMHO, we all know that America was on an admirable path to “equality” (at least parity) before race, sex, gender, culture hustlers (often more than one at one time) figured out how to make a tax-free buck on continued discord, RIGHT?
Ummm…yeah. NO.
Ummm, yeah, YES. Have you been to the MLK memorial in DC? The “content of their character” quote is nowhere to be found. Instead, it’s all about socialism and ‘peace’ of a sort the world will never achieve (and as a minister he should know that).
Socialism isn’t freedom.
Well, that didn’t seem to stop MLK from asking for both. The man, at a minimum, dabbled in socialism. He had a gospel centered in what we call the Kingdom of the Left Hand – meaning this present world. And, his ongoing civil rights work might have focused him even more keenly on a Social Gospel.
Ah, wait, you’re disputing the “cool” part.
Well, since a vast portion of the younger set thinks it IS cool, I’m going to disagree with that one, too. “Cool” does not equate to “intelligent” or “wise” or “well-founded in reason and understanding of human nature”. It means “all the kids I want to be like are doing it.” Smoking was once “cool”. Drag-racing a hot rod on a public street at night was once “cool”. Doing marijuana is “cool”. Smart things have never been “cool”.
I’m a big believer in MLK’s “I have a dream” speech. But don’t put the man on a pedestal – he’ll fall off pretty easily. He was a flawed man, as all of us are, and we should refrain from turning him into a saint.
Thanks GWB!! Definitely not putting MLK on a pedestal. He was flawed for sure. And yes, he definitely flirted with the ideas of socialism. Would he have kept up with that in the years to come. We will never know and neither does CNN.
It’s more that CNN was showing how far down the rabbit hole they’ve gone. When you have a major media organization trying to normalize socialism in any way they can.
