Laura Loomer apparently is a right wing activist. She worked for a group called the Veritas Project run by James O’Keefe. And she does not like Muslims. To be precise, Ms. Loomer does not want to ride in a cab, Lyft or Uber driven by a Muslim. And to be fair to Ms. Loomer, the NYC murderer in a rental truck drove for Uber. Uber responded by banning Ms. Loomer. Why? Well, not to be click bait, but there is plenty more to this story than mean Uber and a bigot. Yes, she was a bigot and a silly one. It is reasonable to want to do due diligence, but really kind of ignorant to refuse to ride with ANY Muslim. Especially when you are in New York where the cabbies are mostly Muslim.
The Hill discussed the story here.
The first thing that I saw was this tweet:
I'm late to the NYPD press conference because I couldn't find a non Muslim cab or @Uber @lyft driver for over 30 min! This is insanity.

Okay, you were late because you wanted a non-Muslim driver. And she continued to run her mouth. And Uber got annoyed.
Someone needs to create a non Islamic form of @uber or @lyft because I never want to support another Islamic immigrant driver.

It is called free enterprise, toots. Create an app, hire drivers and promote it. Call it TrumpRides or whatever. You can do that, you know. And the term “bigot?”
Muslims are out in full force at the scene of the NYC #ISIS attack today rubbing it in everyone's face. Aimlessly walking around in hijabs. pic.twitter.com/UV0DOikmJy

That would qualify. Freedom of speech is not impaired, and Uber was right. They can ban customers for violating their terms of service. Muslims live in NYC and get to walk around in public. I get the concern about extremists, but reality says NYC is extremely diverse.
Being that I am all about being fair, we had a situation up here with an Uber driver gone bad. And this dude was not only crazy but was driving for Uber between shootings. I am far less worried about the religion of a random passing Uber driver than I am at a guy hearing voices through his Uber app and shooting people.
A Kalamazoo Uber driver accused of killing six people and wounding two others last month told police that the ride-sharing app took over his “mind and body” and made him carry out the rampage.
In a series of interviews with police in the hours after the Feb. 20 shootings, Jason Dalton, 45, blamed the killings on the Uber app, saying his iPhone directed him where to go and when to shoot people. Dalton said he would have gotten in a shootout with police when he was arrested, but the app directed him not to.
It could just be me, but I would rather not have a driver who did this:
An hour after Uber driver Jason Dalton is suspected of killing his last victims in a shooting spree in Kalamazoo, he attempted to pick up one last batch of customers who were leaving a party downtown, just blocks from where he was arrested.
According to police, Dalton continued to pick up riders and drop them off in between the shootings, which began around 6 p.m. and continued until about 10:15 p.m. when five people were shot, four of them fatally, outside a Cracker Barrel restaurant.
Laura Loomer has the right to her opinions just as much as Uber has the right to decide whether they want her as a customer.
Uber and Lyft are doing a great job, so far, vetting some of their drivers…. *smh*
Uber could have handled this better, though. The right thing to do would be to add a button for “I am a bigot and want a non-_____ driver.” Then you can select (even multi-select) from a list. And drivers get to self-identify from that list (again, allowing multi-select).
Hilarity ensues as drivers select all the identities, and people clicking the button can’t find a suitable driver. (More hilarity ensues when conservatives insist on the same for census forms – and Trump says “Sure!”) *That* gets you a narrative, instead of “Uber bans rider complaining about Islamic terrorist drivers.”
Wearing a cross or garlic protects you from vampires. Maybe a necklace of bacon would protect Ms Loomer from Muzzies?
I have never heard of anyone getting out by posting to Twitter.
Edit – That’s out of trouble.
Why doesn’t she just take the bus or subway? Or does she not want to mingle with the peons?
