with all the hype this week, on blogs right and left, of sarah palin’s resignation (the smirks, the tears, the prognostications) i noticed something that i hope is not an indicator of future creepy behavior among palinistas.
first, i am a huge sarah palin fan. i have blogged on her virtues as a conservative stalwart a lot. i am anxious like so many others to see her make much needed changes in the republican party.
but the truth is she has always been a polarizing figure — for everyone who loves her, there is someone who thinks she is the debil. both sides are very, very verbal about her. and if i see the comments on my blog explode, it’s usually because of a post on gwb, ron paul and of course, sarah palin.
here’s my concern: while no palinistas in their support and defense of sarah have even closely reached the nutcase levels of paultards, i am concerned that some of the discourse this past week in defense of her, not just here at my blog but all across the blogosphere, has crossed lines. some of our most conservative conservatives are being called ‘rinos’ — and in conserva-speak, that’s the f-bomb. why the friction? because some conservatives have questioned sarah’s resignation and whether it was smart or strategically prudent, or worse yet, asking if she is ready for a national run in 2012.
if you look at some of the far-left sites, that’s the way they operate. they tend to hold their icons in absolute favor — but if you do not agree with them and express it, you must be evil and worthy of shunning. however, conservatives are not hotwired that way. we tend to circulate around issues not people: strong military, fiscal responsibility, pro-life. when our politicos fall, we cut them off and cut them out.
conservatives are not always in lock step and that’s fine. as we rebuild our party, i’m all for getting rid of those squishy republicans that we can never count on anyway – or we can keep ignoring them which is fine too. but please. lets not create ‘palinbots’. no browbeating and demeaning those among us who have questions about sarah and her readiness. it doesn’t help her and certainly doesn’t help the conservative cause.
nothing excuses creepy behavior especially if you want to be called a conservative — we just aren’t like that.

Well, well, well. This is the first interesting post you’ve done in a while Kate. So are you falling slightly out of love with Sarah??? You seem to be saying that. Are you daring to break Ronald Reagans 11th commandment about speaking out against your own party?? Hm. Maybe there’s hope for you after all.
Kate:
“however, conservatives are not hotwired that way. we tend to circulate around issues not people: strong military, fiscal responsibility, pro-life. when our politicos fall, we cut them off and cut them out.”
Then how do you explain the rise of Sainthood of Ronald Reagan amongst you conservatives? You also imply that liberals do not follow issues. That is absolutely false! I agree with Paul in that you sound as if you are deciding to set Palin aside. That must be very painful for you. Good riddance. She is bad for your party and bad for the country.
I agree with you. Most of the conservatives who have said that this will hurt her, conventionally speaking they may be right. It very well could. The only thing is, she doesn’t care. She didn’t make the decision because she wanted to run for president. The “conservatives” I have an issue with are the ones who belittle her (Kathleen Parker, Quin Hillyer, etc.).
I was getting tired of seeing her motives continually attacked.
” You also imply that liberals do not follow issues. That is absolutely false!”
No its true. You guys follow ideals regardless of the realities involved. Its all about intent with you guys and screw the consequences or the means. You’ll follow an issue as long as it doesnt hold you to a moral obligation.
Bad for my party ?
Coming from you thats like the devil saying believing in God is bad for my soul.
“So are you falling slightly out of love with Sarah??? You seem to be saying that.”
Why Paul, because she can actually crticize her? That means she’s “falling slightly out of love” with Palin. First of all, she wasn’t in love with her, she like her as a political candidate. However, we on the right, can criticize the candidates we support. We had many criticisms of Bush including spending and immigration.
Unlike you, who are the drooling, babbling, mindless zombies that Obama counts on every day. Do you agree with absolutely everything Obama has done Paul? Do you agree with the drone strikes that have continued to kill civilians in Pakistan Paul?
I’m curious.
“You also imply that liberals do not follow issues. That is absolutely false!”
Liberals follow what will keep them in power for as long as possible, nothing more.
“nothing excuses creepy behavior especially if you want to be called a conservative — we just aren’t like that.”
Are you suggesting Liberals are creepy and Conservatives, say like Idaho Senator and King of the Wide Stance, Larry Craig, are not? Give me a freakin’ break.
Dania, the point is that his behavior was not “excused”. Did you miss that key word ?
You guys re elect your creeps
There is no way Palin will be president. She is a bimbo with way too many issues. You all just keep promoting her though. It’s good for us liberals
Wow Mary, that was cutting edge critique`like I’ve never heard before.
Tell me, what are these ‘issues” ?
Wanna know whats good for us on the right ? You’re president being promoted by you guys day after day in the face of collosal failed policy after failed policy and consistently dwindling base.
As each day goes by the country is beginning to see just how dumb this election was, even those of you that voted for him. Less than half the country wants him now.
Palin is smart enough to realize that as president she’d have a hard time changing the status quo corruption on both sides weve all become so accustomed to so I’m willng to bet that any changes she tries to make to this country will more than likely come from her being independent of either sides cronyism. I beliee she could motivate the people to say enough is enough without having to hols any title other than her own name, which is basically what she said.
So, dont worry, she probably wont blow your a$$es out from under you as pres but simply just as good ole Sarah.
A very gracious post, Kate. FWIW, I think it speaks very highly of you.
“She is a bimbo with way too many issues.”
Not nearly as many issues as the bimbo that currently occupies the White House, I’m afraid.
“You all just keep promoting her though. It’s good for us liberals”
Really? This poll would disagree with you, Mary:
“Voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on eight out of 10 key electoral issues, including, for the second straight month, the top issue of the economy.”
So please, Mary, continue your arrogant “We won” attitude, we can just sit back and watch the results.
“They’ve also narrowed the gap on the remaining two issues, the traditionally Democratic strong suits of health care and education. ”
That’s it dems, keep making Palin an issue. More and more people are waking up to what you’re all about!
hey paul– a little lesson in conservatism 101:
actually we conservatives don’t ‘fall in love’ (or out of love for that matter) with our political leaders.
we have levels of confidence in them and frankly i have a high level of confidence in sarah palin. i believe her integrity and core values are of the highest order. i think she has more common sense and sensibilities in her pinky then b.o. does in his whole ‘hope and change’ body. she is NOT about slogans. she IS a woman of actions not based on popularity polls or ego.
my comments were solely based as an admonition to my fellow conservatives to not give in to the behaviors practiced on the left of smear, maligning, and intimidation simply to protect sarah. she can take care of herself — she has thus far and will continue to do so. my comments were to suggest practicing civility and to be an example to those who watch us. because paul, cream rises to the top on it’s own with out any help and sarah is cream.
Palin is an attention seeking bimbo who learned that she loved all the hype. I hope she stays around for a long time personally because she and her pathetic family are great fun to laugh at. She craves attention.
Great post! I really like your blog!!

Yeah Gene, I hope you stick around too. We all need a good laugh here as well
“Palin is an attention seeking bimbo who learned that she loved all the hype.”
How original!!! I swear an independent thought would completely burst a liberals head wide open!!!
Ok. Nice propaganda speech but it sounds to me like you’re talking out of both sides of your mouth Kate.
Gosh, what a stunning rebuttal Paul.
Ya gotta love it though.
Palin tossed a peice of raw meat into the arena and basically theres folks on both sides of the aisle trippin over themselves trying make something of it no matter how ridiculous it all sounds. People cant stand the unknown.
Paul, I see no one speaking out of both ends of their mouth. What I see is someome asking us to not to fall into the idolization that you Obamabots have become victim too. You’re leader needs to be told when hes wrong but instead hes elevated to a status where eating his crap isnt good enough for you guys. Its up to you guys to let him know if strays and deviates such as he has many times already from his commited path. Thats what the people are supposed to do and not be lead by some figure who goes unquestioned in any action.
We love Sarah but I believe part of what Kates trying to say is that we dont need to be a bunch of mindless dolts in our support of her and start sounding like some of the insane groupies on this blog who would eat the Obamas sh*t on a stick without even being asked and tell the whole world its Haagen Daz.
If anyones talking out of both sides of their mouth its your dear leader. Why hasnt your party held him accountable for the many broken promises, or policies that conflict with his campaign promises/intentions ?
