on being conservative

on being conservative

have you seen the latest gallup poll? good news for conservatives! of those polled, 40% identify themselves as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% liberal. can this latest polling data be used to promote the ‘conservative brand’ rather then all the incredibly lame calls from some in the gop to ‘moderate’?

so here was the question: how would you describe your political views – [very conservative, conservative, moderate, liberal, very liberal]. surprisingly, even divided by gender ‘liberal’ comes in last!

gallop_poll_data_june_09

so wake up conservatives!

know what you believe, why you believe it, and be able to discuss it in a winsome fashion instead hitting your more moderate brethen in the face with a cold fish! we must be able to rationally articulate to them why trusting conservatives with the country is better then trusting liberals.

and please, don’t run FROM conservatism but run TO it. (just like in the movie ‘the patriot’ when mel gibson – battered, bleeding, down – picked up the tatered American flag and ran toward the british to rout them forever.) heh!

and the gop leadership? if they can’t figure out how to use this latest information for an advantage over the obamanation and their greedy power grab, they are truly pathetic.

The only problem is that these people who identify themselves as conservative may not really know what a conservative is. The lines that have been drawn are already so far left that anyone slightly right of those lines is considered a hard right winger

  • Paul says:

Huh??? I guess now you are saying that you are the only one who knows what conservatives believe vs. liberals or moderates? Geez. Don’t ever talk down about the nanny state dude because you just demonstrated it.

  • Marsha says:

We conservatives need to get a backbone like the students in Iran.

  • Micky says:

    Paul.
Kate never said she (dude?) was the only one but I’ll bet good money shes knows a hell of a lot more about what is and isnt a conservative than you do.
Nanny state, right. Thats quite a stretch.

  • Paul says:

    ROTFLMFAO.

Micky my “HUH” was directed at you and your ridiculous incoherent comment. You really do have a comprehension problem like some say!

“The only problem is that these people who identify themselves as conservative may not really know what a conservative is. The lines that have been drawn are already so far left that anyone slightly right of those lines is considered a hard right winger”

Are you saying you are the only one that knows what conservatism is? I hardly think so. I have yet to see you adequately articulate what conservatism is and you certainly would never win me or anyone I know over to the cause. And please Micky, don’t speak for the far left.

  • Micky says:

If I have a comprehension problem its only because you made it appear as if you were refering to kate and did not address specifically who you were talking to. Even so vague that I thought you were calling Kate a dude.
When lost in the abyss of your vaguness one can only assume you’re refering to the author, kay ?
The fact of the matter is that over time people who’ve identified themsleves as conservatives are actually moderates leaning slightly right such as McCain. His stances on borders and taxation took away from him being as far right as he needed to be. Meghan McCain is an even better example of a generation out there that while being republicans still dont harbor as much conservative core beliefs as they should in order to be called a true conservative. Like her theres many on the right who call themselves conservatives but they still want to be ‘cool” and relevent to our culture which creates a lot of mixed messages in their ideology
So please, tell me how that defines me as one saying that hes the “ONLY” one who knows what conservatism is ?

  • …may not really know…

Paul, Micky clearly did not take on the mantle of conservative expert. And I agree – the lines between conservative and liberal have blurred to the point of non-existence. When Joe Lieberman considers himself liberal – but speaks out against the public option in Obamacare, and when John McCain considers himself conservative – and speaks like he does about immigration…

I agree with Micky, that many people are likely quite confused.

  • PenniePan says:

The problem with conservatives and the broader GOP party is they want to be all things to all people and they can’t be. Their platform doesn’t allow them to be. It is constrictive. So if they’re not gonna change the platform, then they should at least buck up and not be ashamed of what they believe in. Most conservatives I know or the ones on TV (other then say Limblob, Coulter, Hannity) act almost apologetic about being conservative. Even you Micky sound apologetic in being “misunderstood” all the time.

But I suppose that is all the better for us because really no one wants a bunch of confused conservatives in charge.

  • Micky says:

“Even you Micky sound apologetic in being “misunderstood” all the time. ”

    Thats funny.
I spent years on the left until I grew up and have stated many times since my recovery from moonbattery that life couldnt be better.

“But I suppose that is all the better for us because really no one wants a bunch of confused conservatives in charge.”

    Thats really funny.
You guys are doing a bang up job, arent you ?

  • Jameson says:

There’s nothing “winsome” about conservatives in the first place so you are started out flawed.

  • Max says:

Dang. Here I was hearing thundering horse-hooves. Only to find that it wasn’t a Gallop, but rather a Gallup poll.

The important point, here, which I think many are obfuscating, is that most people in the USA are conservative or leaning in that direction. Only around 20% are self-identified as Liberal.

We have a solid majority of people on our side. What we need is for the damn idiots to quit acting like little Democrats and buy a clue.

If the outcome of elections in Europe (which of course US politicians love, because they’re so cosmo and all) demonstrates nothing else, it is clear that they’ve about had a bellyful of the Leftist mantras. They’ve tried them. The models have failed.

  • kate says:

heh! fixed max — you punk. 😉

  • lisab says:

you can use this site to check your political compass … it takes about 5 minutes.

    http://www.politicalcompass.org/test

    my compass is:

    Economic Left/Right: -4.62
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.28

or about the same as gandhi — mahatma rules!!!

  • lisab says:

also, did you hear bill clinton is now the un representative to haiti.

    three chinese terrorists to BERMUDA
    three 9/11 terrorists to ITALY
    one rapist to Haiti

    it makes since 🙂

  • kate says:

lisa heh. i’ve taken this a few times.

    Economic Left/Right: 3.95
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.92

even though it doesn’t look like it, we still share the same brain on some things.

  • lisab says:

i am impressed … you are way more socially liberal than i would have guessed …

that is probably why “we share the same brain on some things” 🙂

also … i think way too many people these days associate liberalism with democrats …

since when does fighting for human rights mean chopping up babies, lying under oath, stealing elections, or demeaning women? i must of missed that memo.

  • lisab says:

for example, the dems are outraged … outraged i tell you … about the waterboarding …

ok … i can see why there could be some concern …

i assume there will be massive protests about iran’s shooting protesters then … hello? … hello? where did all the dems go?

it is like they want to protest something so long as it is safe and no chance to get hurt. hey, i did the same thing when i was in college … i protested chief illiniwek at the university of illinois … but then i grew up …

  • kate says:

you DID NOT protest that poor chief illiniwek!!! thats horrible!

  • lisab says:

    i absolutely did 🙂

i even got carried out of huff hall by the man … the cops … the heat … the donut holders … the university police!

huff hall is the administrative hall … we had a “sit in” and they “raided us”.

i was young … it was a protest against “the man” … it was only later that i realized fighting “the man” really meant helping the poor, the truly destitute, the addicts and the mentally ill.

while micky and i have fought a lot … no joke … his work with addicts is something i cannot do … it just breaks your heart every day … only the iron men can do that

  • lisab says:

it is also why i laugh at these pathetic dem toadies who protest supposed maltreatment of people who want to kill us …

and yet they won’t lift a finger to help the homeless in their own community …

yeah … they are so brave

  • Those political ideology tests always intrigue me. I always score in the Libertarian range – this one was no exception:

    Economic Left/Right: 1.0
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.18

    Lisab said:

it is like they want to protest something so long as it is safe and no chance to get hurt.

You are SO right. Obama is “outraged” over the murder of Dr. Tillman. Yet about the situation in Iran – which let’s face it has a much greater threat of impact on this entire country – is to be “concerned and worried”.

  • Micky says:

    Dont forget “deeply troubled”
