Forget about public parks filled with needles, organized home-invasion robberies and burned-out neighborhoods where nothing is rebuilt after 16 months … the real problem in Los Angeles is backyard barbecues.

No, this is not parody …

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nithya Raman, who is also running for mayor, introduced a motion on Wednesday to ban backyard barbecues during certain high fire danger days in the city, the California Post reported.

Let’s remember that Raman is not just a run-of-the-mill Democrat, but one of those prideful Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) types like NYC’s Mamdani. Aspiring totalitarians who cloak their power plays in all sort of “it’s for the greater good” rhetoric right before they put their boot on the neck of their real targets …

Normies.

At this point, though, Raman was a bit too eager and it alarmed the other LA City council members (“the jig is up! cheese it!”) Raman’s motion was blocked.

The motion was blocked by Councilmember Monica Rodriguez, who told the California Post, “the last thing Angelenos need is a ban on hosting a carne asada in their own backyard.” Rodriguez added that the law would have been entirely disconnected from how people live.

“We’re not checking the weather for red flag conditions before planning a backyard barbecue,” Rodriguez said. “This is what families do. Birthday parties. Carne asadas. Family gatherings. A lot of people barbecue.”

While Rodriguez recognized Raman’s folly would not go down easy, even when Los Angeles is full of deep-blue True Believers who would rather be caught dead than flying an American flag, touching their backyard grilling would cause a revolt like what happened on July 4th, 2020 after Los Angeles cancelled all fireworks shows.

But Raman’s concern-trolling over shutting down open-flame grilling during fire season right after Spencer Pratt publicly spanked her and Karen Boss at the first (and only) mayoral debate wasn’t aimed at reducing fire risk as much it was knee-jerk totalitarian drive to control people who will accept that control. The Covid lockdown of 2020-21 in California demonstrated that the word “emergency” could go a long way to micromanaging the lives of all the law-abiding normies.

A lesson not lost on Raman as she targeted backyard barbecues — please note that not one significant fire incident in SoCal has ever been started by a backyard bbq — fires while ignoring fires in homeless encampments.

According to ABC 7 Eyewitness News, a records request for “Homeless or Encampment Related” fires turned up a staggering 75,000 incidents since 2020.

“The numbers fluctuate month-to-month, but the trend is unmistakable,” ABC 7 reported. “In 2020, LAFD logged 7,165 homeless-related fires. From January through mid-December 2025, that number climbed to 16,982, an average of 46 fires every day in the city of Los Angeles. Most of these fires are small and quickly extinguished, but some spread with devastating consequences.”

Cleaning up homeless encampments is hard work, people! Rather let’s just virtue signal we are doing something by keeping you from grilling some burgers and dogs on a Saturday afternoon.

… rather than forcing them to sober up … this is all theater kid performance art. It is never aimed at what’s wrong because actually solving these problems reduces Leftwing power. So cracking-down on petty (and often unrelated) issues of normie behaviors is baked-in the Leftwing response to any issue.

Barbecuing during dry weather isn’t the issue. The issue is never the issue, the issue is always the Revolution.

And until (or if) the normies finally realize how they are being played, I see no change in places like Los Angeles. Even if Pratt wins, he loses. The Left plays petty games, but they are a danger to us all.
